"Heya Girls!"
Well, this is becoming kind of a tradition. Already for the second time, the “Take Festival for Independent Fashion and Arts” is happening and turning the Old Post into a turntable of the art and fashion scene for five days. The program is just as diverse as the topic: fashion shows of Austrian designers, exhibitions, parties – everything an excitement-loving fashion heart could long for! Susa Kreuzberger is inviting to her fashion show and presenting her new collection that was inspired by Eames, Mies van der Rohe and Bauhaus. The former cashier halls of the Old Post are turned into a pop up store that unites Austrian designers ranging from Marina Hoermanseder to Meshit and Margaret & Hermione. A variety of lectures and workshops allow a glimpse behind the scenes of the fashion industry. And the Hidden Fashion Library shows the avant-gardist fashion magazines that are being founded worldwide at the moment. Sounds like a whole lot of fashion!

Wishing you a beautiful week

All women – an excessive utopia
Let us briefly dream about the following: “Austria is the land of the heavenly gender equality. The reason for that is the women’s referendum of 1997, which was implemented step by step after being signed by 645.000 people”. Well. Unfortunately, the reality is a lot different, even 20 years later the fundamental demands have not been fulfilled yet! And because of that the motto at the KosmosTheater today is “Now more than ever”, with strong women like Eva Rossmann, Tini Kainrath and Mieze Medusa pointing their fingers at the non-implementation of many demands from back then through texts, music and performances. Margarete and her sisters
So much for gender equality! Even though female architecture students already make up almost half of the student body at Austrian universities, women are absolutely underrepresented in the training and as architects. The actionist exhibition “Margarete und ihre Schwestern – Heldinnen der Architektur” (“Margarete and her sisters – heroines of architecture”) goes on a quest for the first role models of female architects. It is done by using a travelling furniture piece that serves both as exhibition and speaker’s corner and placed in front of all the architecture unis of the city. Last stop is the University of Applied Arts today. Free entry!

Public Wardrobe
The Public Bookshelves throughout the city are pretty well known – practical shacks, where anybody can leave or take books. And now there is also the very first Public Wardrobe! It is privately maintained (and was also built) by a female student of the Academy of Fine Arts and is located at Yppenplatz until May 31st. It serves as a terminal for t-shirts, pants, coats and shoes. Anybody can bring clean clothes and everybody can take them for free. A great idea of sharing! By the way, the wardrobe is closed at night and on Sundays and holidays. Magisterial regulations…

Zero Waste: Rob Greenfield
He rode a bike made of bamboo across America, refrained from taking a shower for one year and fished tons of groceries out of waste bins, in order to use them to celebrate the “Food Waste Fiascos”. And with his campaign “Trash Me”, the American Zero Waste-activist Rob Greenfield became famous. He lived like the average New York resident for one month and carried around the accumulated waste in a Trash Suit on his own body – at the end around 60 kg! Today, he will be giving a exciting talk at the Gartenbaukino: ingenious inspiration for a more sustainable and happier life!

Opening summerstage
It’s time for the summer party racket to start: Vienna’s classic of the outdoor locations – the summerstage – is opening its doors once again today. From now on you can eat, drink, flirt and exercise at the Danube Canal once more. The opening of the season of mild evenings starts today with a free concert by Birgit Denk. The Folklore songwriter sings in dialect and is known for her laid back and funny handling of the Austropop music genre. Sometimes, she approaches the topic very quietly and sentimentally and sometimes her songs rock like there is no tomorrow. Improves the mood just as much as the upcoming summer!

seven years nyc
Once in a while the CitySpotterGirl also likes to spot in New York – and even just because of that she is recommending this exhibition to you! The young Viennese photographer and filmmaker Valentin Farkasch managed to capture particularly calming motives. He spent seven years in the city that never sleeps, filmed music videos and short films and took photos. His big format images that are currently presented at the Dock7, show very unusual spots of silence ranging from a wooden bench to the “Garden with a view” with a view of the skyline of Manhattan. Cool – and looking at them makes you long for a trip to the Big Apple!

A feast for your ears
Burning ears meant in a positive way for once ;-) Today, at an interactive exhibition around the topic of hearing you can discover the interesting sensory organ at different stations. For example (how cool is that!) in a “screaming room” where you can measure, if you really do have a loud organ – and you will also be photographed while doing so. The “Noiseman” of the Sonic Research Institute in turn shows, how loud we hear music. And whoever wants to can try hearing through the bones. And since the organizer of the event is a producer of hearing implants, hearing tests will be offered as well!

felicitas – Home Stories
The furnishing style of the 1950ies and 60ies has been considered hip for quite a while now – and the found pieces from the era are pretty overpriced sometimes. But not at the small store of Cornelia Felicitas Eccli, where the furniture-loving owner skillfully combines original objects with new designs. Cool vintage-wood-stools with pastel-colored sitting surface from Franz Schuster, “new” 50ies-trays with gilded rims from London and many colorful glasses and vases, of which an amateur could not tell if they are originals or not at first glance. But that is not really the point anyways, because the quality is right – and the prices as well!

Toasterei Bunter Hund
It is very simple: forget anything you have ever heard about toast. And go on a pilgrimage (yes, a pilgrimage!) to Praterstraße. Ignore the possibly very long line in front of the tiny restaurant and hold out. As a reward, you will receive a piece of art between two slices of bread, which tastes just heavenly. Roasted neck of the Mangalitsa pork, sweet and sour white cabbage and smoked Gouda (“Der Hawara”), marinated green asparagus, red-wine-figs and orange-tomato-chutney (“Adriano”) or roast beef with radish and truffle-mayo (“Shlomo”) – all of them magnificent! You eat standing up at a huge wooden table – basically in the kitchen. A hit!
