Zweigstelle Boutique
A visit to Zweigstelle Boutique in the heart of Vienna is like a journey into a paradise of scents. However, the scents do not come from flowers, like in Andreas Bamesberger’s first store in the 9th district, but from scented candles. Here you can find the entire product line of the French company Cire Trudon, the oldest wax manufactory in the world. The elegant fragrances in the light-flooded shop range from sandalwood to grapefruit, special collections like “Old Brickwork” or “Fresh Laundry” have been specially composed by perfumers. In addition, they have a selection of beautiful vases and pictures. So pretty!
Zweigstelle Boutique, Bauernmarkt 9, 1010 Vienna. Mon-Fri 10:00 to 18:00, Sat 10:00-17:00. Web

Herzig
Lately, Sören Herzig has opened his restaurant fervently awaited by gourmets. Herzig, who came to Vienna with three-star-cook Juan Amador, has guts: he plans to establish one of Vienna’s top restaurants in the middle of the 15th district (in an awesomely converted Dorotheum hall). For dinner they serve an opulent menu of seven courses that can be easily called sensational (from Hamachi fish in a carrot coat or lamb with rhubarb), for lunch they offer an affordable and delicious dish of the day. All I’m saying: the best meatballs ever! Plus a friendly, young service team and an elegant-cool ambience. Wow!
Herzig, Schanzstraße 14, 1150 Vienna. Tue - Fri 11:30 to 14:00, Tue - Sat from 18:30. Web

Seven North
You know someone’s really got it when they serve vegetables in such a tasty and creative way! Lately, the famed Israeli chef Eyal Shani opened his second venue in Vienna after the Miznon. The really big Seven North, with velvet chairs and a lot of stylish vintage, is located in the Hotel Max Brown and reminds you of the Food Halls in New York: a lot going on, exciting, Mediterranean menu, disarmingly friendly service. Of course they have the famous roasted cauliflower, but also super-soft lamb filet on tahini. Many dishes are intended for sharing or are snacks for tasting – so best bring several people along!
Seven North, Schottenfeldgasse 74, 1070 Vienna. Sun-Thu 18:00 to 1:00, Fri-Sat to 3:00. Web

The Viennese Guy
He might call himself “The Viennese Guy”, but ladies are just as welcome in this shop. The store for design articles and accessories has moved to Wiedner Hauptstraße and has taken this opportunity to expand: the new shop is three times as big, houses 16 designers and now also includes an integrated café. The product line ranges from cool print-shirts, hand-painted ceramics and wallets made of recycled gym mats to graphic illustrations – all made by creators from Vienna with a focus on sustainability. Original and kindly not at all expensive!

Das Bootshaus
This heat only leaves one choice: flee to the water. How convenient that family Querfeld have opened their boathouse at the Old Danube after a long period of renovation. With its elegant-handsome ambiance (open fireplace, whitewashed wooden walls, brown Chesterfield leather couches), it might as well be in Long Island, the summer refuge of rich New Yorkers. The terrace is situated partly at, partly on the water and always offers a cool breeze. And the food is wonderful: extensive breakfast menu, fish&chips and of course lots of pies!

Honu Tiki Bowls
Quick heads-up: during lunchtime, it’s not rare for the queue in front of the venue to reach as far as the next corner. Honu has managed to win an enthusiastic fan community in no time. They exclusively serve Hawaiian rice bowls with various ingredients – Spicy Tuna, Vegan Tiki or Maui Chicken. If you want, you can also put together your bowl yourself. At the bottom of the bowl, there is delicious Sushi rice and on top, the ingredients are piled up. Unfortunately, they’re sometimes a bit cold, but so what. There’s only limited seating in this brightly colourful, tiny restaurant, by the way, but they offer take away.

Larimar - moments & friends
Dear god, that’s beautifully colourful! Entering the nice, brand-new store near Mariahilfer Straße, your gaze is caught by the brightly coloured cloth bags, notebooks, etuis and fish. All made from cotton fabrics coloured with plant dyes which are fairly produced by a women’s project in Sri Lanka. By the way, the amazing fabrics are also sold by the metre at favourable prices! Plus, there’s jewellery made from light-turquoise Caribbean Larimar rocks, precious, handmade wild-silk scarves from Laos and delightfully-colourful and featherlight slippers from Thailand. And they have a mini café in there as well. Definitely a feel-good shop!
Larimar, Capistrangasse 3-5, 1060 Vienna. Mon-Fri 10:00 to 19:00, Sat 10:00 until 17:00. Web

Dingelstedt3
Usually, you only have church innkeepers in the countryside, but now we have a new one in Vienna too. And it’s a great one! On the church square of the impressive brick building Maria vom Siege, Eduard Peregi (from Gasthaus Quell and Eduard) has snatched the closed “On Sud” and has turned it into a really joyful Gasthaus together with two friends. They offer Viennese cuisine with a creative twist: Veltliner veal lights, various mushrooms with bread dumplings, cauliflower-Gröstl or the funny dish “Stadt, Land, Fluss”, basically a Viennese edition of Surf & Turf. Nice: very short waiting time for the lunch menu!

Manufactum
Well, that was a long wait! At every Munich-visit so far, CitySpotterGirl has stormed the huge Manufactum store, but as of now, we have the emporium of good things here in Vienna as well! On 2 floors, at the elegant address Am Hof, there are 6,000 items piled up which are not necessarily trendy but always beautiful, have been tried and tested for ages and sometimes are a little bit nostalgic. From sustainably produced jeans to emerald writing ink, from English copper-pots to lemon soap. So that everyday life becomes something extraordinary! Oh, and they also have their own bakery with adjacent café!

Siebentage
Remarkably pretty colours and selected styles: it’s not just fashionistas’ hearts that beat faster at Ania Ahsmann’s multi-brand store. The fashion expert has recently moved from Wiedner Hauptstraße to Schleifmühlgasse, where you can now delight in a mix of mostly Scandinavian fashion. Colourful cosy sweaters, silk gowns with beautiful patterns, unusual velvet coats and great pleated skirts. By the way, the interior furnishings are for sale as well, from pretty basket lamps to wooden sales tables where the cashmere hats lie. Plus jewellery and home accessories. Very tasteful!
Siebentage, Schleifmühlgasse 6-8, 1040 Vienna. Mon-Fri 11:00 to 14:00 + 15:00 to 18:00. Sat 10:00 to 15:00. Web

Propeller
What a pleasant surprise for CitySpotterGirl! Now she doesn’t have to fly to New York for a lot of money for her beloved Williamsburg flair. It’s now right around the corner of the office. Floor-to-ceiling windows, brick walls, a huge monstera, old wooden tables: all that’s missing at the Propeller is the view onto the East River. There’s a casual and easy atmosphere here and the cooking is pretty damn good. Porchetta with rosemary potatoes and the best gravy of last year, for instance. For now, they only serve breakfast and lunch menu but next year, they also want to offer dinner. And the icing on the cake: super-friendly service!
Propeller, Krongasse 22, 1050 Vienna. Tue-Thu 9:00 to 24:00, Fri 9:00 to 2:00, Sat 10:00 to 2:00, Sun 10:00 to 16:00. Web

amour fou
The jostle in the adorably little lingerie shop “amour fou” on Barnabitengasse was often considerable. A second changing cubicle was missing in particular. Lingerie fairy Astrid Bleier has now found one, sort of – she has simply opened a second shop in the city. It’s not much bigger, either, but offers enough space for heaps of beautiful, sustainably produced lingerie. New are the captivating lace bralettes by New Zealand label „lonely”, for instance, or the London fancy silk sleep-wear label “Hesper Fox”. “Körbchen” bras made in Vienna are part of the assortment as well. Open on Sundays too!

Alimentari
The grappa selection alone is worth seeing here! Not only because they have more than 100 types of the grape marc spirit but because the bottles simply look fancy in the dignified wooden shelves of the turn of the century-pharmacy that used to be there. The newly opened and very elegant “Alimentari” belongs to the hotel “Das Triest”, which is why they sell mostly Italian & hotel guest-friendly packaged things. That’s why the beautifully designed wrappings and bottles of the groceries are an optical delight – ranging from olives and amaretti to pasta and wine, gin & limoncello. A tip for purchasing small presents and souvenirs!

Cafe Hildebrandt
This has the potential to become one of my favourite spots! Café Hildebrand has moved into a picturesque garden salon of Volkskundemuseum. Named after the architect of the palais, Lucas von Hildebrandt, looking down from his portrait with dignity to lunch eaters and coffee sippers. Elegant chandeliers, old carpets, raw colour-washed walls and wooden school desks make the room cosy – that’s how you do vintage with style. The huge glass doors offer a view into the yard, which turns into a wonderfully snug place in summer. And the food: clever and real tasty! Even pasta with kohlrabi tastes interesting here ;-) Great!

Breakfast at Hotel Schani
Hotel Schani next to the new train station has been there for a while, Schani Salon on MaHü on the other hand has just opened. Both Boutique Hotels aren’t only unusually lovingly furnished, but they are also open for everyone. Including co-working space, garden, and a breakfast buffet that’s really great fun. For only 14 €, you can feast all morning next to the hotel guests: great coffee and Sonnentor teas, smoothies that you can press yourself, loads of fruits, yoghurt, bread, hummus, muesli, spreads, cheesecake (the bomb), scrambled eggs and cold cuts. Recommended!

Füllbar
Cue waste reduction: it’s the cleaning and washing in a household that requires a particularly great amount of plastic packaging. This is why in her “Füllbar”, Heidi Hass offers organic cleaners from detergent to scrubbing paste that you can get filled and refilled there, plus cleaning cloths, brooms and brushes as well as a few toiletry articles like hair soap or deodorant. Also great is the wooden “cleaning box” with basic equipment for do-it-yourself cleaners natron, soda, curd soap, citric acid and vinegar essence, that’s all you need for laundry, cleaning and washing-up! Find more tips for zero-waste shopping here!

Volee
Now for something really original again! The Wiener Athletiksport Club is situated in the green Prater and its centrepiece, apart from 21 tennis courts, is the club pavilion. The restaurant there, the VOLEE, has now opened its gates for non-members as well for the first time. The new, young crew has tackled the outdated club charm, has put some beautiful old wooden tables and a few designer chairs between the Resopal furniture, plus every plant that’s trendy right now (monstera says hi!). They cook – pretty ambitiously – a mixture that is just as funny: from rissoles and tarte flambée to tom ka gai soup. Super likable!

Österreichische Werkstätten
Backhausen, Augarten and Thonet – companies with great tradition, high-quality manufactories and Jugenstil-inspired products have always been sold at the store of Österreichische Werkstätten. But now they’re also beautifully presented: the three-story- warehouse has just been redecorated by architect Kurt Mühlbauer and redesigned in Art Nouveau-style. The selection is extensive and exquisite, ranging from deco-pieces to fabrics, china, glass- and silverware and furniture. Also represented are young creatives like glass-star Robert Comploj or the Gmunden cashmere-label Caleo. Very chic!

Matiki
Off to the South Pacific! Two Belgian brothers come to Vienna and open a Hawaii-bar in Tiki style. What may sound a little strange at first quickly turns out to be one of the friendliest bars of the city. The warm owners, who you’ll immediately recognise in their wild-pattern Hawaii shirts, really know a lot about cocktails and actually mix much more than what’s on the menu. From "Dark+Stormy" and the classic "Alexander” to "Bride from Ipanema". Despite its Tiki-style, the small, clearly structured bar enjoys some pretty elegant furniture – and its guests are in just as good a mood as the barkeepers.
