"Heya Girls!"
Don’t be surprised when you see even more stylishly dressed people wandering around MuseumsQuartier then usually! As Vienna has transformed itself from fashion wallflower to a trendy fashion city, starting Monday, it is all about: Fashion Week! Seven days full of fashion shows of national and international designers, shopping, exhibitions and parties. During the big opening, the catwalk belongs to Marcel Ostertag and his gorgeous collections “Heroes” and “Lovers”. In the following days, the newest creations from designers such as Anelia Peschev, Callisti or Smaranda Almasan will be presented hourly in the course of more than 70 fashion shows at the big fashion tent and shown to the audience. And, of course, there will also be pop-up stores, since it would be cruel, if you could only watch!

Wishing you a fashionable week

Binge Watching: new Vorstadtweiber
Look at that, that has never happened in Vienna before. The series “Vorstadtweiber“ is back – in cinema first, that is! Before the new season starts on September 16 on ORF, you can learn how to successfully scheme at the movie theater. And not episode by episode but in binge-watching mode: the first 5 episodes run one right after the other (almost 4 hours!). The big premiere is held at the Cineplexx Wienerberg and, of course, the protagonists will be present, as well as directors Harald Sicheritz and Mirjam Unger, screenwriter Uli Brée and many celebrities.

 Maria Lassnig, Albertina
Maria Lassnig. Ways of Being
She was born on September 8 of 1919 as an illegitimate child on a farm in Carinthia and in 2014 she died, having turned into one of the most important female artists of the 20th century. On the occasion of her one-hundredth birthday, the Albertina pays tribute to Maria Lassnig through a broad retrospective. Full of humor and serious, longingly and merciless is how Maria Lassnig turned her self-perception into paintings. Her depictions are not about what she saw, but what she felt inside. The exhibition shows impressing main and key pieces of an extraordinary artist.

Gloriette „PopArt Imperial“
Well, the Gloriette will be wondering, what’s happening to her tonight. During a cool art hustle and bustle in the closed park of Schönbrunn it will be illuminated on the inside and the outside with works of American PopArt artist Roy DeVonBei. During a fashion show, Michel Mayer will be presenting her new collection. And there will be drinks, street food from a road of delicacies with The Cheese Cab and Hildegard Wurst will make sure that you can hold out for a while. By the way, the entry is free. But you do need to sign up online for a free ticket. The view across Vienna will be the cherry on top.

World Press Photo 19
Not for the faint of heart, but well worth seeing! The awarded press pictures show with brutal honesty what happened around the world during the past year. Close to 75,000 photos were submitted to the World Press Photo Contest, 42 photographers from 22 countries were awarded in eight categories. Now, the gallery WestLicht presents the best pictures, including the World Press Photo of the Year: a photo from US-American photographer John Moore, which has become a symbol for the restrictive immigration policy of the USA under President Trump.

 Vitra
Vitra Sample Sale
Absolute insiders‘ tip and a fantastic occasion for all design lovers! In London, people camp out in frosty temperatures for this – and in Vienna it is also recommended to get there on time today. Because the Swiss cult brand Vitra is going to open its warehouse in Vienna! Which means: A once in a lifetime chance to get the exclusive furniture at such a reasonable price. Chairs, shelves, lamps, tables and, most of all, tons of design classics will be available nearly at half price as well-kept warehouse pieces. Part of it: cult chairs from Eames and Panton. Attention: hard to find!

Silent Disco at Strandbar Herrmann
No, we don’t want to hear that summer is slowly coming to an end! It’s much more important that the nights are still warm enough to celebrate outside. For example, at Strandbar Herrmann where today it’s all about cheerful dancing at the Silent Disco. It works like this: party guests receive wireless headphones and then they can choose between two DJs. One of them will be playing house, electro, charts and hip-hop and the other one alternative, oldies and classics. So, take of your shoes and start dancing until the sand beneath your toes turns warm ;-)

25hours meets Markterei: in the park
Well, hopefully it’s done raining soon because this feeding frenzy calls for dry weather! The Markterei is making camp in the park in front of the 25hours Hotel – with market stalls, street food, and bars. Surely no foodie dreams will remain unfulfilled between organic chips, fusion kitchen sandwiches, barbecue by Jacobo, and French boulangerie sins by Paremi. Besides, if you’re there already, you can get your weekend shopping done: they sell delicacies from Hissek smoked fish to slow food bread. Also, live acts followed by after party at the 25hours’ Dachboden. Cool!

Mondscheinbazar
This is something for all the night owls out there! At the Ottakringer Brewery the Viennese night flea market is inviting once again to hunt for bargains, shop and party. For this, you can take a pass on your beauty sleep for once ;-) There will be a colorful mix of private attic finds, vinyl records, furniture and all kinds of small things to rummage through. But there will also be finest pieces by young designers and artists. Starting at 18:00, there are going to be live concerts and food trucks will take up residence for the hungry visitors. Hipster chilling meets attic party. Awesome!

Gault&Millau Gourmet Fair
Another one about food! But of course: if those who regularly rate the best chefs of the country host a Gourmet Fair, then the crème de la crème of local star chefs won’t need to be asked twice. The Gault & Millau couple Martina and Karl Hohenlohe invite guests to a 2-day tasting at the Kursalon, where 100 top chefs offer their creations. Stars like Paul Ivic and Konstantin Filippou will provide culinary highs, plus 70 star winemakers will be serving wine. And if you want to learn something as well, you can get inspiration from the pros in the show kitchen.

Franciscan Fair
The only reason this tip is included here, is because as a country girl, I love fairs. And one of those will be held on Sunday at the inner courtyard of the Franciscans in the first district: the Franciscan Fair. Organized by the bakers, pastry chefs and butchers of Vienna, visitors can expect numerous culinary delicacies. Ranging from savory sausages to baked goods (Franciscan bread) to the chocolaty Franciscan “Spitz”. The entire proceeds of the culinary delights are used to cater for the vulnerable community at the Franciscan monastery. If it rains, the fair will be held in the brothers’ refectory.

UNO City Vienna
We have all seen it when we drive past, but who has actually entered? The United Nations Office at Vienna celebrates its 40th anniversary this year. Also because of that, the Vienna International Centre (as it is officially called), commonly known as the UNO-City, is going to open its doors today and invite all Viennese people to visit. During the week, around 5,000 employees from more than 125 countries work here, the entire complex includes six office towers, two conference buildings, one library, one bank, one post office and one restaurant. Lots to see ;-) Bring a picture ID!

Open House at mumok
There will be a whole lot going on today! Like every fall, the mumok is going to open its doors again this year with free entry. The whole museum can be discovered during one of the hourly guided curator tours, but attention: you better not be afraid of heights if you go on the interactive “Vertigo” exhibition. It might be preferable to go draw at the “Pattern and Decorations” exhibition, to see a concert or to visit “einfach stapelhaft!” – a room full of wooden sticks to stack, pile and build with. A special treat this year is the flea market at the court stables: The mumok has to sort out its deposit and we are happy about the treasures!

Planetarium Backstage
This is something for real fans, such as the CitySpotterGirl. And for the curious, who have always wanted to ask: How do the stars get to the planetarium? Why does black have to be real black? And what are the special projectors at the planetarium able to do compared to regular ones? (A lot!) Tonight, you can experience the planetarium from a completely different perspective and take a look behind the scenes. You can find out everything on the technology behind the stars shows, climb up to the space behind the stars with the head technician and make a short stop at Werner Gruber’s office.

Isabel Meili “Schlapfen halten“
The winner of the cabaret talent show of the Vienna Cabaret Festival 2018, Isabel Meili, is not really one of those women who would voluntarily stop talking. It was actually a vocal cord edema, that made the quirky Viennese-by-choice remain quiet for a few weeks and inspired her to write her first solo cabaret program. It is about heated whisper-debates at the Vienna Regional Health Insurance Company, about consistent female inconsistency and many other topics (Mothers! Men!), which will leave you speechless. Swiss charm meets Viennese humor.

Free running training for women

Ladies of all performance levels are welcome, from returnees to marathon speedsters. Just show up and let yourself be carried away by the power of the group and the experienced coaches! Chilenidades
Poncho, panpipe and fluffy lamas – that is what most people think of Chile. But only a few chosen ones know about the young art and wild music. Until now. In 2018, Chilean artists living in Austria founded a cultural forum, and now they are inviting to “Chilenidades”, the first Chilean festival in Vienna. Modern and traditional music, literature and films – spread out over the whole month. Today, a movie is on the program: a feature film portrait about the impressive singer Violeta Parra. And to mark in your calendars: the big Fiesta Chilena will be happening on September 28!

An evening with Jane Goodall
Everyone should listen to this woman at least once! Chimpanzee researcher Jane Goodall is one of the most captivating lecturers in the world and also a brilliant fighter for environmental projects and Mother Nature. Tonight, the UN Messenger of Peace, who turned 85 in April, will be in Vienna. The overall focus of her speech will be her seemingly hopeless beginnings, her profound experiences made in the jungle of Tanzania and her optimistic perspectives during complex times. Whoever is not able to get a ticket anymore, can also follow the lecture via livestream on Facebook!

The Merovingians or The Total Family
Written in 1962 by Heimito von Doderer, edited as a theater play by Franzobel: Doderer’s grotesque novel “The Merovingians or The Total Family” examines the species of the so called “Wutbürger” (enraged citizens) in different characters. In his novel, Doderer took the liberty of making a joke, a joke that is actually ruthlessly serious. There is a lot of raging throughout the play – sometimes out of revenge, sometimes out of pure lust. And that, dear readers, seems kind of familiar. By the way, in order for everyone to be able to unleash their rage, the Volkstheater opened a rage-room next to the MQ! No joke!

Future Factory
Rethink urban productions: How do we imagine neighborhoods 2.0? Starting today, the exhibition “Future Factory“ presents future-oriented ideas, how production could happen right in the city center. For example, there is wechselstrom showing the potential of slime mold for urban planning and Daryn Chook, who designs urban sustainable fashion. Within the frame of an urban food hub from vertical farm institute, a DJ-school for girls from Masha Dabelka and an escape room with augmented reality from Polycular, you can discover how sustainable production could become part of a lively neighborhood.

No-cost-Corner
A bob, a perm or maybe better a free mixer? Sounds strange, but it exists: at the recently opened „Kost-nix-Ecke” (No-cost-Corner) at the Coiffeur Höfergasse. The principle works similar to the open book shelves. Everyone is welcome to leave things they don’t need any longer and would throw out and also to “shop” for free. Doesn’t matter what, t-shirts, toys, electrical appliances, decorations or books. Hairstylist Sylvia Warsame wants to take a stance against a society of excessive consumption. She has just one request: Only leave things you would also give to a friend in good conscience.

Sustainability works in different ways! At the just recently opened shop of the Styrian couple you can try on everything, but you can’t pick up anything right away. The beautiful walk coats and loden jackets and also jeans produced in Mühlviertel don’t go into production until they are ordered. At the shop, they have all models in all sizes and colors in stock, you try them on, you choose – and only then the pretty piece will be sewn in the south of Styria. No overproduction, no waste of fabric and resources. The whole collection consists of 100% natural materials and is produced entirely in Austria.

Ribelli
Right up front: For a romantic date you should better look for another restaurant. Because the new Ribelli is loud and bustling. Big wooden tables, a wild lamp chaos, a brilliant wall painting – and makramee herb pots hanging from the ceiling. So, it is all quite hip, which is exactly the right choice for the new restaurant at the 25hours Hotel. But the biggest surprise is the food: they only offer Neapolitan pizza and traditional oven dishes, all very classical. Perfect south Italian cuisine instead of fusion stuff, using exclusively good products. And at the bar you can even buy prosciutto, pancetta and pecorino!
