Late Night Shopping at mande masa
Mande Masa is actually one of the CitySpotterGirl's new favourite shops. Today and tomorrow, ladies will be able to rummage and do some shopping in the evening too. This pretty store exclusively sells African fabrics with colourful patterns and turns them into clothes, jewellery and home accessories. There are festive blouses of precious, glossy bazin, belts and high heels of superbly printed wax fabrics, curtains of bogolan that was coloured with mud. Some cuts are African, some are European - an enchanting mix of two continents. Something exotic for the city!

Picnic with an apparition
Now this is a May-parade of a somewhat different kind ;-) The Rabtaldirndln invite all to a green pilgrimage, a walk in the woods where they will look for "supernatural" events. In the centre of this strange passion play, there is Uschi Kümmernis: fictive martyr, she renounced the traditional roles of women, grew a beard and retired to the forest to live an autonomous life. The public has to give everything, including the intercession - as a reward, there will be sausage sandwiches, fizzy pops, devotional objects and punch Krapfen. And I will reveal as much: yes, the much-desired apparition will take place!
Meeting point Maria Grün Church/Aspernallee, 1020 Vienna. 1 May 14:30. 6 €. Web

Jane’s Walk
"Jane's Walk" is appreciated in the entire world: these walks already take place in 100 cities, and involve inhabitants of the city leading participants through their district. The creator of this initiative was the Canadian activist Jane Jacobs. Her message: we should all actively participate in urban development. The first step: meeting people who might have similar wishes for improvement. Today, one can go have a look at the "walking conversation" in Grinzing, tomorrow at the Brunnenmarkt. And those who want to organize their own "Jane's Walk" in their own district should do so...
Jane’s Walk. 2 May 17:30, Grinzing, 38a station Cobenzl. 3 May 14:00, Yppengasse 5. Free of charge. Web

Joan As A Police Woman
Frankly: she used to be known as a bit of a moper with her dark and emotional solo programmes. Today, it's different: her songs ( here) are cheerful, in high spirits and they really draw the listener in. Joan Wasser alias Joan As A Police Woman has worked with stars such as Lou Reed, Elton John, Nick Cave and is not only a singer and a songwriter, but also a classically trained violinist. Today, the US-star and her great voice are making a halt in Vienna. By the way, Joan has borrowed her band name from the TV series "Police Woman", because her friends thought she looked like the leading actress Angie Dickinson.

There they will discover lots of special varieties such as Dattelwein and beef tomatoes, cinnamon basil and French marigold. Handicraft market
Small and fine with an already large tradition: once again, there are handicrafts to look at and buy at Spittelberg - and some of them are just adorable. Such as handmade thread buttons by Johanna Arbeithuber (who will also demonstrate hand spinning with spinning wheel and spindle). Or magical Origami by Melina Avaro. Or handmade laces by Sonja Tauber from Linz. Or handblown glass pearls by Verena Spitz (and it is also possible to watch her during the production). Or fairy-tale trunks by Eva Seligova - and this is a real must-see!

Yasmine Hamdan
Yasmine Hamdan - one of our insider's tips, famous in her homeland, Lebanon, as an "underground icon" with her band "Soap Kills". She started her international career with a CD with Madonna's producer Mirwais, today she presents her new songs at Chaya Fuera. The music of this beautiful singer whose voice carries all those of the Arabic world is a thick atmospheric mix of electro & pop & folk: here. The texts question tradition, but take the best of the Arabic world with them - its humour, its mischievous, sensual aspects, its joie de vivre.

Play mini-golf for free
Now, I don't want to see any ironic grins! I think mini-golf is cool. I admit: it's hopelessly old fashionned, but cool. And for us eccentric mini-golfers, the fifth Austrian mini-golf day takes place today. At over 40 places between Alte Donau and Bodensee, interested people can play a round for free and learn tips and tricks from professionals who will show how to hole a ball in as few putts as possible. By the way: Austria is among the best countries in the world in professional mini-golf! That's impressive, isn't it?

Organic potatoes from the Waldviertel
5 kilos of the best organic potatoes from the Waldviertel for 4.10 Euro only? Yes, that’s true - even if the story behind it is somewhat sad. Organic farmers from the Waldviertel had to produce 10 tons of potatoes for organic shops. Then, they were slowed down - they now sell "Italian early potatoes" in stores… The "Leiterwagerl", an online shop for vegans, will drive the potatoes to Vienna on Monday this week and next week. These fine Waldviertel potatoes can be bought at the place where the Naschmarkt's flea market usually takes place on Saturdays: organic and at very cheap prices. Pre-order online!
Naschmarkt, Parkplatz Flohmarkt, 1060 Vienna. 5 & 12.5. 17:00 to 20:00. Please pre-order: here

Bicycle lessons for adults
Life is just like riding a bike: you need to keep moving to keep your balance! Based loosely on this motto, adult bicycle-beginners can now learn to ride too. In this lesson for "absolute beginners", participants will learn easy and effective exercises to tame the bike and enjoy freedom on two wheels. The six sessions take place on the Donauinsel in a very relaxed and anxiety-free atmosphere. By the way, there are also other quite loopy courses at the City Cycling School, such as: biking in the city, secure biking or Bike2Work.
