"Heya Girls!"
Well, clearly life writes the best stories itself. Which makes all of us gifted lead actresses ;-) Sometimes it comes along as a comedy, other times as a tragedy – but it always stays intriguing! The film programme of this year’s Viennale is just as colourful and versatile. In the film “Une fille facile”, for instance, the protagonist turns in a brilliant balancing act between saint and whore (and reverses the male fantasy of an ideal woman in a feminist way on the side!). In “Das Glück meiner Schwester” a guy drives himself crazy between two women. And the Austrian director Anja Salomonowitz processes the grief for her father in Daniel Spoerri’s documentary “Dieser Film ist ein Geschenk”. Pretty educational to dive into strangers’ fates, relationships and realities – but tough times for cineastes! For the Viennale with more than 200 films in 15 days all but forces us to spend day and night at the cinema

Wishing you a flickering week,
Your CitySpotterGirl

 Female Future Festival
Female Future Festival
Okay, this is cool! Austria’s biggest business event for women takes place today (in Vienna for the first time). Namely at METAStadt. For an entire day it will be all about female empowerment, new job chances, female intuition and, of course, about your own career. There will be lively debating, informing, networking and lecturing – on stage, for instance: futurologist Lena Papasabbas, journalist Eva Pölzl and design rocket Marina Hoermanseder. Plus, they have Master Classes on Top Job Sharing, Vocal Training and others. Totter there, get inspired and learn from the best!

Helge: Ordnung muss sein
Ever since your CitySpotterGirl first saw him (in the ceremonial hall of a school ;-), she’s been completely enamoured with this guy: a genius of strange humour, Helge Schneider. He’s got a bit more wrinkled since then, no wonder since he sometimes likes to eat lobster-substitute paste. Or he goes to the stable of his chicken (called Kartoffelsalat Dachlatte die 16.) to talk shop about the last self-painted picture by Caspar David Friedrich. Lyricism, poetry, jazz, art, nonsense, all this is offered by the late-60s freak with his whimpering Hammond organ. And all will be well.

Lichterloh around Nachbarin
When an art dealer and a fashion designer potter around door to door for 15 years, the best possible outcome is a firework of sparks :-) As it happened with Lichterloh & neighbour who host a thrilling Salon Show in 8 acts together today! They will breathe a hefty dose of life into the furniture classics (from Josef Frank to Carl Auböck) and fashion collections (from Arthur Arbesser & co)! Singer Pippa, for instance, and actress Grischka Voss. You will feel like you are at the prettiest theatre. And you’ll definitely want to take all the “props” home for your own show.

Free Ice-Skating at Eislaufverein
Romantically whirling around your own axis right at the beginning of the season! Reason for the (late summery) ice dreams: the Vienna Eislaufverein starts off the season with a nice offer: free ice-skating for all! Against the magnificent backdrop of Konzerthaus, you can nostalgically prepare for winter today. Then in the afternoon it gets “Heiß am Eis”: for the Open Day, there’s not just free admittance, but also figure-skating performances, ice shows (with Claudia Kristofics-Binder and team) and fine musical sounds. My, this almost makes you look forward to the snow a little!

 Ideenwelt
Ideenwelt Fair
Colouring, threading, deco-patching: doing handicrafts makes you happy and is very in vogue. At Austria’s biggest creative fair, more than 90 exhibitors will present both established and innovative stuff, from materials to the newest techniques, tricks, and trends for four days. Particularly great: the many workshops! For instance, on the topic of baking or textile art, where you can learn everything from the Button Masala technique (sewing without thread) to making beeswax cloth. And since Xmas isn’t that far away, you can also create some small presents like étagères.

Habitat: 120 Naked People at Tanzquartier
Aw, look, no single naked guy at the café Hawelka today but as many as 120 naked people at Tanzquartier :-) That’s because choreograph extraordinaire Doris Uhlich is back with her shocker-performance piece Habitat. Which deliberately raises questions on nudity, current beauty ideals and societal body norms. The ensemble has already successfully shame-rid the Dominican church in Krems and the façade of Vienna Secession. Today it will rock the huge hall E. An absolute must-attend event to rethink your own body awareness and sense of well-being.

 Addicted to Vintage
Addicted to Vintage Flohmarkt
How a woman can – truly – feel at least 30 years younger? She only has to dash to Kunsttankstelle Ottakring this weekend and soak up youth memories and flower-power vibes. The Addicted to Vintage community has once again amassed many things from the 50s to the 90s during the summer. Up for grabs are small furniture, fashion, records, lamps, deco-articles and china – and a free dash of nostalgia, obviously. Between browsing and reminiscing you stylishly sip a wee glass of liqueur and devour creamy stuff. Hang out, shop – relaxing!

Palace
If you are into indie folk and have become a bit tired of listening to Coldplay, you could try to go to the WUK today. Because the four cute boys from Palace are on stage today, laying out a carpet of brilliant-spherical and guitar-melancholic sounds at the concert hall. They will perform songs from their new album “Life After”. The songs have titles like “Running Wild”, for example, or “Heaven Up There” – all feelings that a lady is well acquainted with, grin. So, round up your girlfriends, get dressed up together and perhaps even throw some bras ;-)

Because those are what domestic fashion makers are offering at the feinstoff#design.popup in the 6thdistrict for three days: wienerkleid is represented with cheerfully colourful wrap-, material- and colour pieces, the label Langer brings wearable unique textile print items and Rp stylis with gaudy eye-catcher necklaces and trippy accessories. An Inspector comes
Raise your hands and hold your breath! For today, there’s really an inspector coming – to the Kattus cellar in the 19th district. The ensemble “Unser Theater” has brought the world-famous society crime novel by John B. Priestley to the stage. If you believe the rumours, he wrote it in 1944 in a single week! Now, this may not exactly be high culture but the dynamite mixture of thrilling thriller and love-trouble slapstick simply puts you into a really good mood. Plus, it’s suspenseful right until the end. Only three performances at the Sekt-Kellerei, today’s the premiere!

blickfang
Must-go event for individualists: blickfang – a design fair for furniture, fashion and jewellery – transforms the MAK into a temporary design department store beyond ready-made clothes for three days. 150 designers from 16 nations will present creations which a woman didn’t even know she needed at all costs ;-) From the bag out of self-made paper developed by Langackerhäusl and a pretty tray table by Jungholz to artfully cut designer wool coats. And you can discover ingenious, still unknown Viennese design at the “departure Studio”. Inspiring!

Pumpkin Festival at Himmel
Well, let’s hope the weather goddess will smile upon us once more. For there are pumpkin farmers from Styria coming to Vienna to present all kinds of delicacies from Styrian gourmet regions up on Himmel, in the meadow between Oktogon and the Tree of Life circle. Meaning you can taste your way through specialities like pumpkin soup, pumpkin kraut, Vulkanland ham, pumpkin seed oil, or Schilcher wines at the pumpkin gourmet street or take this opportunity to fill up your pantry at home. And if you like you can start carving Halloween pumpkins – 200 different kinds are available!

Alison Jackson. Fake Truth
It’s been a long time since Vienna has seen an exhibition as funny as this one. If you want to see the Queen do a selfie, Kim Kardashian and Kanye West have a home birth or Lady Di with a suuuper mean middle finger, this is perfect for you! The British star-photographer Alison Jackson has captured such, after all not entirely impossible, absurdities in 75 fake pictures. With the help of professional look-alikes and enormous effort. Sometimes you have to pinch yourself to remember that the scenes are not real. Simply hilarious. Today is the vernissage!

Corset Sewing for the Advanced
Yes, for this you do need some sewing (machine) skills. But the prospect of creating your own corset basically makes the ten fingers work with superhuman skill. Plus, professional Katharina Strasky will be there too. Having tinkered and fiddled at the Kostümwerkstätten of the Vienna State Opera for years, she definitely knows how to sew corsets. From today, she takes 1 semester to demonstrate in a small group how the particular lingerie sewing technique works, how to adapt cutting patterns and how to work in the eyelets and bones. Orange Wine Festival
For the not-so-vinophile folks: Orange Wine is made from white, natural grapes. Just like with red wine production, they are processed through prolonged contact with grape skins (mash), from which they get their gorgeous colours ranging from orange to amber. And the wines are produced unfiltered and without chemical additives, yeasts, enzymes or added sugar. At MuseumsQuartier 65, winemakers present more than 200 Orange Wines today – most of them from Austria and Slovenia, but there are some from 10 other countries as well. This time you can try red Orange Wine as well!

Simone Kopmajer “Spotlight On Jazz”
She is one of the most internationally successful Austrian jazz singers of the present time and yet hardly anyone here knows her name: Simone Kopmajer. That can be changed today! The tour jetsetter is not performing in the USA, Israel or Thailand for a change but at Porgy & Bess right here in the middle of Vienna. She is accompanied by none other than US-saxophone player Terry Myers, who usually only bothers with Ray Charles and Natalie Cole. On the programme are melodious goosebumps- and heart fluttering numbers – my, but doesn’t this music sound beautiful!

The Female Pelvic Floor
Irrespectively of the next Pilates session, you should attend Barbara Bodner-Adler’s pelvic floor lecture today. The senior physician for gynaecology at the university women’s hospital talks about the newest prevention- and therapeutic measures against pelvic floor descent and bladder weakness. Looking at the moon either makes you dream or wonder. And thus the magical crescent is and has always been “dissected” by astronomers, astronauts, artists & co. You will see fascinating objects from various disciplines–they even got a moon meteorite, so you can smell and touch “real” moon. Romantic: the painting “Gibbous Moon Hare” by Dona Jalufka. There is a wooden shoe manufactory in Sievering! They make cool and comfortable “urban” clogs and sandals that can be purchased at the stylish vvild shop at Obkirchergasse from now on. Oh look at that, the grannies and grandpas have multiplied. Surely everybody knows Vollpension at Freihausviertel anyway, now the seniors and youngsters bake and craft in the inner city as well: at the private University for Music Muk. They kept the wild vintage furnishing of course, but it’s a bit more contemporary. A dash less kitsch (no Lourdes holy water!), somewhat airier and brighter. They also offer lunch and all kinds of breakfast here, grandmother-style with toast Hawaii. Plus, huge calorie bombs in the form of pie. And yes: it’s also extravagant, trippy and incomparably likeable!
