"Heya Girls!"
Alright, now I'm getting sentimental for once. Dear ladies, Christmas is approaching again, another year is coming to an end already. And that's why I would like to take this opportunity to say thank you very much! Thank you to you wonderful readers who have been loyal to us for years. And thank you to my wonderful team, which has supported me and had my back these past few months, so that I could master a large book project (which will appear in March). You are the best! When this newsletter is sent out, I will throw myself into the fray and finally do my shopping for Christmas presents. It's a good thing that there is a solution for (almost) every problem in our city. Which is why I will end up in the 7th district for my shopping: Young artists wrap the presents there! Creative, original or just weird, always with recycled material, every day in a different shop. And after that? A rest, a break from everyday life, a breather and lots of cookie-calories. We'll hear from each other again next year!

High on Fashion: T-Shirt-Workshop
Cool thing! First you go through the current 90s exhibition "Time is thirsty" at Kunsthalle in order to get some fashion inspiration. Then you can customise your own punk, grunge or high fashion T-shirt during the workshop. Various stencil, cut-out and textile colour techniques will be demonstrated, with which your favourite motif can be applied decoratively to fabric. This will certainly also evoke memories of your own 90s, which – depending on your youth – will turn out to be rave, political activism or digi-hype. Your DIY T-shirt will tell the story to go with it :-)

Christmas Star Sale
Actually, the natural distribution area of the Christmas star, Christmas flower or poinsettia lies in the west of Central America, but today it blooms and flourishes in Vienna as well. The Austrian Federal Gardens offer their surplus of poinsettias from their own production for sale! Around 200 poinsettias are available, including many beautiful varieties in different sizes and colours. The "Christmas Rose" model, for example, glows in bright Santa Claus red, while the "Christmas Ear" model enchants with its subtle Christkindl-white. Approx. 7 € per piece, while stocks last.

Daniel Spoerri: Eintagskästchen
He is the inventor of Eat Art and once founded the Nouveau Réalisme with Jean Tinguely and Yves Klein. This time, however, Daniel Spoerri does not stick any leftover food with glue on tabletops in order to capture his everyday reality (as he did in the 60s with his grandiose "trap pictures"). Rather, what has been collected and found is now "preserved" in small-format collages, assemblages, and diary sketches. Each piece tells an exciting story, made from objects from the flea market. This way, Spoerri breathes new life into things that others no longer need.

There’s nothing like a little bit of fresh air after all the punch-drinking! Today you can go on a heavenly guided walk through the inner city, lined with angels in stone, stucco or terracotta. Often the spiritual beings are not as gentle as you might think. Archangel Michael even roughly threw the unruly Lucifer out of heaven and terrified the people on earth. On the tour you will also encounter friendly little baroque angels, though, as well as a magnificent secessionist guardian angel made of mosaic stones. And you will also get to hear some devilishly good stories.

Anita Eberwein sings about the emotional world of love, lust and passion in the suitably sultry Eden Bar today – from the top of the world to the depths of despair. Last-minute shoppers will definitely find something between handbound books by AliNuSh, folklore bags by tash.oneonly and harmony-power-acrylic paintings by Cassis. Two of the makers are still missing: Verena Pacher with pretty (meditation) cushions and other feel-good living accessories and Anita Horn with Upcycelei-happiness-gems.

Sam's Bar at Nestroyhof
Every year in December, Nestroyhof Hamakom Theatre travels back to the year 1899 when the legendary entertainment „Etablissement Nestroy-Säle” was opened in the basement. In order to sort of revitalise it, Sam’s Bar will play at the location for a few weeks. And since today is the last day it’s open, you better get a move on! They have many good cocktails :-) And at 19:30 the Peter Ponger Trio will play as well. And make the beautiful art nouveau building (which, by the way, is based on designs by Oskar Marmorek) vibrate with jazzy sounds. Bar open from 19:00.

Volksoper-Family’s Christmas Market
How original! A bazaar that is much more than that: a get-together with fascinating artists. For today’s Christmas Market, everyone of the Wiener Volksoper’s staff comes together – the ensemble as well as all the behind-the-scenes employees. On offer are preserved, knitted, and crocheted things, jewellery, liqueurs, home-made delicacies and much more. A few theatre people will be there in person, which means you can openly chat with them or enjoy some punch with them. All the proceeds of the event go to the charity “Künstler helfen Künstlern”.

The Snow Globe Manufactory
As it’s often the case with inventions, the manufacturer of surgical instruments Erwin Perzy came across the decorative shaking glass globe with snowing effect by pure coincidence (he actually wanted to increase the light output of the carbon filament light). Since then, the nostalgic wonder globes with Christmas tree-, animal- or Ferris wheel content travel all around the world from Vienna. Many of the splendid kitsch-objects can be admired at the snow globe museum and the shop. Today’s the last day before Christmas, it’s very possible that you'll find a favourite good mood souvenir ;-)

Richard Teschner’s Christmas Play
Wow! From 19 to 23 December, the precious Javanese rod figures of art nouveau artist and puppeteer Richard Teschner will be revived. His puppet theatre "Figurenspiegel" (Magic Mirror) from the 1930s is kept in the Theatermuseum at the Palais Lobkowitz and will be used in the Christmas Play today! Back in the day, the theatre revolutionary even had a Dulcitone keyboard purchased to send the golden angels and magical creatures through dense sound-snowfall and clinking frost. Great music and great doll outfits from Wiener Werkstätte fabrics!

Special Train “Waiting for Santa”
If you don't want to watch "Three Wishes for Cinderella" for the 100th time on 24 December to get into the Christmas mood, you could take a train trip this year for a change! With a bit of luck, the Christkindl special trip around Vienna still has a free seat in the nostalgia train. Curious folks may take a look into the driver's cab, gusto travellers enjoy the scenery out of the window over tea, coffee and small Christmas delicacies. CitySpotterGirl is in love with the charismatic guitar pickers, tuba trumpeters and lyric singers of the band Gewürztraminer. And with all six of them! They have made pensioners dance on the “Traumschiff” MS Germany, conquered all hearts with their album " Tanzverbot" and, by the way, they have basically invented a new music style called "Gypsy-Balkan-Swing with drums" ;-) Tonight they enchant you live at Porgy & Bess. With crazily witty lyrics, melodic swing and four guest wind players. They really do have Gewürztraminer in their blood!

The Long Hall
This is a mystery that needs to be solved: why are pubs – even those in Vienna – always much more communicative, entertaining and cosier than normal venues? Are the tables closer together or do they pour something into the beer? Anyway, now we have a new Irish pub in our city again which isn’t only really spacious but also offers a good time. Five tastefully furnished rooms, super-nice staff, perfect beers and an ambitious cuisine from breakfast to dinner. The corn chicken and the grilled goat's cheese were great, in any case. And yes, it does get loud here in the evening. But that's the nice thing ;-)
