"Heya Girls!"
Nowadays, you would probably call her an influencer and follow her on all possible and impossible social media channels. A hundred years ago, however, her undertaking was a dangerous adventure. In the 1920s, Alma Maximiliane Karlin travelled alone around the world for eight years. Unlike most travellers of the time, she had no money and financed the trip herself as a journalist and book author. And she succeeded: Karlin, who was born in the Slovenian part of the Habsburg Empire, became one of the most famous travel writers of her time. The objects she collected on her journey reflected the changing financial circumstances of the courageous globetrotter. Under the National Socialists, her works were then banned, and after 1945, as a German-language author, she was treated with hostility by Yugoslavia and subsequently forgotten. From Thursday, the “Weltmuseum Wien” will bring Karlin before the curtain: an exciting exhibition reconstructs her “lonely journey around the world”.

Wishing you a curious week,

Vienna City Gallery Walk
Pretty cool: 40 galleries in and around Vienna's city centre open their doors to visitors in the evening, and there are creative guided tours, too! If the “Vienna City Marathon” on Sunday was too long for you, don’t worry about the City Walk: this year, seating has been specially created for a rest along the way. Under the title “Private Banking”, 20 artists have designed chairs for the Gallery Walk – “occupying” is expressly desired ;-) Aside from paintings, photographs and sculptures, there will be ceramics and jewellery on display, such as “flower animal” made of hemp and silicone in the V&V gallery.

 Vintagerie
Vintagerie furniture flea market
Nice legs on that chick! We don't want the attitude towards women from the 1960s back, but we would like to keep the style of that time. The mid-century treasure trove Vintagerie makes it possible: cocktail chairs and sofas in strong colours, colourfully patterned lampshades, mirrors with frames from old factory windows, chic tea sets, chests of drawers – vintage lovers are in seventh heaven here. Sounds nice, but too expensive? Starting today, they have a 3-day flea market offering up to -50%! Very cool: Some of the furniture comes from prominent Viennese addresses!

Little Rosies Kindergarten
A 13-piece band without a leader creates chaos – one that is great to listen to! The jazz collective Little Rosies Kindergarten is young and their genre is “psychedelic” jazz: dark timbres, groovy improvisation and playful breaks in style. The experimental trance sounds of the Viennese band have already been reviewed in the New York magazine “The New York City Jazz Record”. A series of concerts by the innovative musicians starts today at Porgy & Bess; to get to know them, they will mainly play pieces from the two albums already released. Also available via live stream!

Cake Art Installation
The MuseumsQuartier is turning 20! And what can't be missing from a birthday party? Exactly, cake. But the MQ wouldn't be the MQ if it had nothing to do with art, which is why it comes from “Cake Artist” Sophia Scholz. The Viennese blurs the boundaries between art and cake, her cakes are almost too pretty to eat. But only almost! “Edible Transparency” is the name of her installation made of icing, jelly and cake, which will be created in hours of meticulous work on the MQ Libelle on the roof of the Leopold Museum. And afterwards, everyone gets to cut off a piece to eat! Yay :-)

Exhibition at Sargfabrik
The world is constantly changing. This exhibition by three artists working in Vienna is all about that: impermanence. Claudia Kraus photographs flowers in their fragile phases between life and death. Angelika Rattay makes sculptures that are deliberately missing body parts. And Letizia Werth puts houseplants in the shade in her drawings, waiting for human affection. Fitting: the exhibition is held in the “Sargfabrik Atzgersdorf”, built in 1916, which will be renovated from October – so it could be the last time that you can visit it in its original form!

Courtyard Flea Market Margareten
Treasure hunters will get their money's worth: at the annual courtyard flea market, 20 private houses and apartment complexes from Margaretenplatz to Hundsturm, meaning in the entire 5th district, will open their doors today. In the courtyards, the residents sell their old treasures from wardrobes and cupboards and other knick-knacks. Whether you're on the hunt for a gem or two, or just want to take a curious look behind the façades of Margareten's houses – this is a rare chance to do so. And besides exploring, you can also have a nice chat with some new people.

Gault&Millau Gourmet Fair
Women, bring an appetite! Because when those who regularly choose the best chefs in the country call for a gourmet fair, the crème de la crème of the local toque chefs won’t hesitate. The Gault&Millau couple Martina and Karl Hohenlohe invite you to a 2-day gourmet event in the Kursalon, where almost 90 top chefs present their creations. Stars such as Paul Ivic and Konstantin Filippou will provide culinary highlights, while top vintners serve their wines. Climate Nights: Dance for Change
Yes, there is that too: nightlife that puts the climate in the spotlight! In the Pratersauna there will not only be dancing tonight, but above all works of art – from videos to poems – all by environmentally conscious artists. The music is provided by the Russian-British composer and DJ Gabriel Prokofiev, who is known for his sounds between club culture and classical music. He will be accompanied live by the young star violinist Yury Revich, who will play on his Stradivarius. Quite some new tunes for Pratersauna ;-) Today music, art and dance meet sustainability for the first time!

Girlfriend Day at the Klimt Villa
Nice Sunday outing for Gustav groupies! At today's Girlfriend Day at the Klimt Villa in Hietzing, you can meet the painter's great-granddaughter, fashion designer Brigitte Huber, who will enrich the curator's tour with anecdotes from the family history, and then sip a glass of champagne in the salon afterwards. In addition, it is wonderful to take a stroll through the beautifully renovated rooms of Klimt’s very last place of work. The Klimt Villa itself has quite a varied history and served as the painter's studio and place of creativity until his death in 1918.

New Ibero-American Photography
Hola, entusiastas de la fotografía! Photographers from Spanish and Portuguese-speaking countries from Andorra to Venezuela are part of this exhibition. And they are doing so in the “Palais Wiener von Welten”, one of the pompous buildings directly on Schwarzenbergplatz – now you have a good reason to take a look inside! The current Ibero-American photography scene challenges the definition of “aesthetics” established in Central Europe and thus brings fresh perspectives to art. The exhibition shows works by 29 contemporary artists from 17 countries. Beautiful!

So, now Vienna has a champagne boutique. Actually, Champagne Characters, market leader for the distribution of vintner champagne in Germany, comes from Munich. There, the boutique with day bar is so popular that they decided to open a branch in Vienna. With an equally special flair: in the backyard garden of a former artist's studio in the 6th district, you can now sip and linger romantically. 200 different champagnes from winegrowing families are on offer, and from 8 euros per glass you can enjoy all kinds of bubbles. How about a little bit of murder?
Franziska Singer asks this question above every Monday in her podcast. Together with Amrei Baumgartl, she has been hosting the Austrian “True Crime” podcast for almost two years now. Joseph Haydn's skull is just as much a topic as the world's smallest cannibal. The two actresses don't just record the stories behind crimes, they also research them meticulously – so it's no wonder that not every fact makes it into the forty-minute episodes! That's why the podcast is now available as a book – today is the presentation at the Thalia bookstore.

Pantoffelhelden
Anna has been happily married to her husband for a year when her (innocent) ex is released from prison. Which wouldn’t really be a problem, if he didn't own half of the flat she currently lives in with the new guy... The theatre play by the Croatian author Miro Gavran is full of situational humour and funny dialogues that evolve around the questions: How do you live with two men when neither has anywhere else to go? How do you organise life with a husband and an ex-partner in a shared flat for three? And above all: How do you arrange a rendezvous in half a flat?

Vertebra Weeks at Prater
Walking through life with your head held high: The spine makes it possible. To keep it that way and to compensate for all the sitting the body has to do every day, it’s necessary to mobilise, strengthen and stretch. And this is what will be trained during the Vertebra Weeks, which start today. In the weekly course you strengthen (with your own weight and small equipment) the torso and shoulders, balance exercises are aimed at the deep muscles. Through the holistic body training, vertebrae and intervertebral discs are sustainably relieved. And everything outdoors in the open air at Donaupark!

Homeopathy for irritable bowel syndrome
Indisposition, stomach cramps, but also bloating, nausea or diarrhea: “irritable bowel syndrome” is the most common diagnosis among intestinal diseases. And women are affected twice as often as men! In such cases, conventional medicine is often at a loss. Homeopathy can help to restore and maintain intestinal health. At this lecture of the initiative “Homeopathy helps!”, general practitioner and doctor of homeopathic medicine Dr. Ilse Fleck-Vaclavik explains which globules can alleviate symptoms and help defeat the disease.

A feast for the eyes: a new, bright shop filled with home accessories! The blankets, carpets, wickerwork and cooking utensils are fair-trade and are for the most part handmade by women in countries where work is rarely paid appropriately. The two sisters Veronika and Magdalena Kupfersberger want to counteract this – worldwide sisterhood, so to speak. The globetrotters know most of their producers personally, after all, they regularly travel around in Africa and Asia. And in the future, the design shop will also become a meeting place: for yoga, women's circles, and other things.

Helli & Leo
CitySpotterGirl has absolutely no desire for autumn and winter yet. That's why she (with the help of the weather god) is stubbornly going for summer and consequently presents an ice cream shop here. But it's truly an unusual one! The interior in its striking 2D design looks like it has been drawn – but don't worry, almost everything is real, and you can actually sit here. In the white surroundings, the ice cream looks even more pastel, it tastes great and has a third less sugar than the usual ice cream. True to the motto: low sugar, but plenty sweet. And there's ice cream for dogs here, too!
