"Heya Girls!"
Now, in all honesty, how many of you are in love? Raise your hand, please. Ah, so many. (Sorry, as a single you like to lose track of this ;-) Have a nice Valentine's Day, then, my dears! For Vienna is working pretty hard to make this week especially nice for couples. In the Albertina you can accompany the special guided tour "Liebe(spaare)", before that Demel candy and rosé sparkling wine from Bründlmayer are served. On the Old Danube, you can romantically sail across the water in (winter-proof, heated) island boats, all decorated with dozens of heart-shaped balloons. The Leopold Museum is offering a couples' promotion for its current exhibition – one pays, two can enter. Just whisper the code word "Liebesrausch" at the ticket office. The Natural History Museum serves "Sex on the Beach" cocktails and matching guided tours on eroticism in the Stone Age to the Iron Age. And at zweigstelle, a flower pop-up opens all Valentine's Day long (photo). With the help of well-known flower masters, everyone can create their own bouquets for their loved ones. Dragqueen Ginger Red is the DJ and creates the right atmosphere – and singles are welcome, too ;-) Love is in the air!

Wishing you a loving week,
Your CitySpotterGirl

Show off. Austrian Fashion Design
It was about time! Today the first really comprehensive large exhibition on the subject of "Austrian Fashion" starts. And if you look at it in such a compact way, the journey through the Austrian fashion avant-garde from the 1980s to the present day is really impressive: Marina Hoermanseder with her leather strap skirts, Westwood husband Andreas Kronthaler, Arthur Arbesser, who designs in Milan, or Michel Mayer, who is loyal to Vienna. The 1980s are also fun – like the pieces by the inventor of unisex fashion Rudi Gernreich or the most ingenious of all couturiers, Helmut "Bubu" Lang. Wow!

Night Tour through the Palm House
It is still winter, it gets dark early, and the night befalls us practically in the early evening. This is the reason why you are invited to an exclusive night tour in the Palm House in Schönbrunn already at 17:00 today. The extensive tour through the impressive iron and glass construction begins with a champagne reception and then leads from the "cold house" through the temperate zone to the tropical pavilion that gives its name to the building. In each climate zone, corresponding plants can be admired, and the magnificent building from 1880 with its 40,000 glass panes as well.

Into the Night
Time machine: The year is 1907. Sitting at the bar of the Fledermaus cabaret in Johannesgasse, the legendary Gesamtkunstwerk of the Wiener Werkstätte. Drinking a "Kiss me quick". In a moment Polgar will pass by with Altenberg. It must have been an incredibly inspiring time back then – and the Belvedere now gives this pulsating world of the avant-garde its own exhibition in the Nachtcafe. Clubs and cafés were important pivots of modernity. In addition to faithfully reconstructed locations, works inspired by them are on display.

One Billion Rising
Four women were already murdered in Austria in 2020, and one in three women globally is beaten or raped over the course of her life. In order to take a stand in a visible manner, American feminist Eve Ensler has declared Valentine’s Day V-Day. For years, women have been taking to the streets on 14 February to dance together for a non-violent life under the motto “One Billion Rising”. Vienna will join in too! At 17:00, they will be dancing at Yppenplatz to “Break the Chain”, and then the after party at will take place at Brunnenpassage.

 Hasnain Kazim
Auf sie mit Gebrüll
You really don't have to take everything! But you have to learn how to argue properly. Hasnain Kazim knows all about that. Born in Germany, he is a journalist, the son of Indian-Pakistani immigrants and is often enough confronted with prejudices. He counters platitudinous slogans and stupid attacks factually, but not understandingly. In his new book, the current Viennese-by-choice shows how to stand up to agitators and populists – and he gives helpful tips on how to face unpleasant discussions with humour instead of avoiding them. Today he reads from his book. Let's fight.

 Parasite
The Oscar-triumphator: Parasite
That was a triumphant night for the South Korean tragic comedy "Parasite": four Oscars! The indie film had already been awarded the Palm d’Or and 200 other prizes before that. Anyone who wants to see the bizarre story of the poor Kim family in Seoul and see how they tricked their way up to jobs with wealthy people will get it served as a breakfast film at Topkino today. As a cosy starter to Sunday, breakfast is first ordered à la carte and then only 3.20 euros are left to pay for the funny film. So, off to the living cellar of the Kims. Tip: make sure to reserve a table!

International Day of Tourist Guides
As every year on the Day of Tourist Guides, the guide experts invite you to fascinating and free (!) discovery tours. And that indoors as well as outdoors: This year, Wieden is a special topic on the agenda. The editorial office of CitySpotterGirl will not be visited, but instead the former Tröpferlbad, which today houses the district museum. Other guided tours deal with the legends of our district, the musicians who lived and worked in Wieden and on Karlsplatz. The lectures, for example on the "Kaiserweg" in the fourth, take place in the Chamber of Commerce.

Speed up your brain
"I know her, what's her name again?" – Who's never like that? Well then it's time for a memory training – this helps the grey cells to filter, process and store information. And above all when calling up information, so that you can save yourself the daily embarrassment right from the start. The professionals from the Austrian Academy of Psychology know how to do this (it’s surprisingly easy!). At the seminar today, so-called mnemonic techniques are taught, which show a way through the flood of information. That way pin codes, birth dates and to-do lists stick in your mind.

Eva M. Marold: Vielseitig desinteressiert
Why is the person who shouts the loudest seen as being right so often? Why are so many people beside themselves and not at peace? How would it be if we made a mosquito out of an elephant for once? Singer/actress Eva Maria Marold, well-known through the TV show "Was gibt es neues?” takes an interest in all of this. In her new cabaret show, however, she mainly investigates the question of whether a whole bunch of things can't simply be of no interest to us. Without the rat’s tail of reprehensibility and bad conscience. And she doesn't mince her words. Good ;-)

Peter Punk at Viennas Neverland
Fear of contact can be reduced during the walks of the Supertramps club. Their guides are or were homeless and talk about their life on the streets. Today (for the first time!) Martin is taking visitors on a journey to his personal Vienna no-man’s land between Karlsplatz, Naschmarkt and Mahü. As a punk from the village he came to the city where he learned a lot about drugs, alcohol and squatting. The new tour through dark passages and hidden parks is now available regularly. Insights into other people’s worlds are guaranteed, with a high chance for a change of perspective.

Release your Beauty
Please take off ;-) Namely the corset and a bunch of constricting dogmas. As a piece of clothing it has long since left the ladies' world, but the high demands and expectations still constrain many women. Especially when it comes to beauty. High time to rewrite history, says Andrea Dechant, organiser of the Goddess Conference. This evening at the Soul Sisters, she questions how and why we judge our own beauty – and that of other women. An encouragement to a full, rounded wholeness. End of body shaming!

 Café Kandl
Cafe Kandl
Yeah, what exactly is this here? It is called a cafe, but at night it turns into a (well stocked) cocktail bar. With the breakfast menu they had a creative romp with spicy porridge and "decadent" breakfast, the lunch menu tastes wonderful and on the small but very fine evening menu you can find, among other things, a "porno roll". Of course it had to be tried immediately, but its nature is not revealed here ;-) For a new cafe surprisingly classically furnished, you can eat really well here or just hang out for hours. The Kandl has it all. And everything on the highest level.
