"Heya Girls!"
Aw, that turned out nice! As you know, I'm quite curious, so I inspected the Künstlerhaus, which has been closed for three years for renovation and modernisation, before the opening. In front of the entrance, the craftsmen were still working, but inside, the house now shines like a happy diva on the red carpet. The building was already erected in 1865 by the Austrian Society of Visual Artists and Hans Peter Haselsteiner financed the general renovation. On the weekend, the opening will be celebrated with a big party – with free admission for all. The big exhibition "Alles war klar" will start there and above all you can try out different types of art together with artists in a variety of workshops. For example, printing with Natalia Weiss on the old etching press, photographing with Natascha Auenhammer or building the Künstlerhaus as a doll's house with Susanne Hornbostel – moving-chaos included ;-)

Wishing you a cheerfully breezy week

Cinema World Vienna
Vienna and its cinemas: it is a 125-year-long love story with many ups and downs. A wonderful exhibition in the Metro Kino is dedicated to these Viennese dream-places, including the long-forgotten ones, starting today. Photo and film documents as well as unique original exhibits invite you to stroll through show booths, shop cinemas and movie theatres. At the opening there are cinema memoirs by Erika Pluhar and short film projections using an original hand-crank projector. Those who wish can also leave their personal cinema memories in a separate section of the exhibition!

Manufacturer’s Sale
Luckily, we have manufacturers like Augarten, Lobmeyr, and the Silber Manufactur in our beloved city that have put their mark on Vienna for many generations with tradition and beautiful craftsmanship. Five of these institutions with long-standing tradition now host a three-day sale – with classy vases, textiles, crystal chandeliers, and delightful tableware being 30%, 50% or even 70% off! Apart from the already mentioned, the sale also includes R. Horn with elegant (travel) bags and accessories and “Zur Schwäbischen Jungfrau” with dreamy bed- and table linen. Most exquisite!

Money, honey!
90 percent of all securities accounts are owned by men. But why, actually? On the one hand, there is a persistent myth that large amounts of capital are needed to invest. On the other hand, there is this prejudice: the stock market is evil. Viennese financial mathematician Larissa Kravitz wants to encourage women to manage their money with confidence and invest it sustainably. In workshops and podcasts she teaches investment basics and translates ETFs, REITs and co. Now Investorella has also written a book for financial beginners – "Money, honey!" will be presented today.

Special Effects Event
For three days, the Technical Museum will take a look behind the scenes of the film world. The focus will be on special effects, which are essential for most film productions. At the start, a film night will show cinema classics with a wide variety of special effects from 1894-2019. On the weekend there will be stunt shows with Tissi Brandhofer, who was in "James Bond 007: Spectre", and performances by four-legged film stars. In various workshops, visitors can produce film teasers, cut videos or watch make-up artists demonstrating their craft.

 Anna Schmedding
Anna Schmedding: pencil-sketches
"I'm amazed at how many come to me," says Anna Schmedding, referring to her figures, which have developed from wooden peg carvings into pencil drawings. Physical contortions and faces that remain strangely vague characterise the pictures of the German-born Viennese artist. She leaves her stories open-ended, they result solely from the role attributions of the viewers. Today Anna exhibits at the Ada, the headquarters of an artists' collective that constantly changes its premises. After a butcher's shop, an apartment is currently used as a location for the exhibition.

1. Editionale Wien
Now here’s something to look at! The event with the unusual name has always been held in Cologne so far, but now it's making its first stop in Vienna! The fair for artists' books and book objects presents unusual and beautiful things between two book covers. Designed, painted, glued or printed by artists, the artist books, which are published in small editions, all tell their own stories – like the delicate objects by Setsuko Fukushima. The exhibitors come from Belgium, Germany, Ireland, Luxembourg, Hungary and Austria – and you can get to know them personally.

Fesch’SwapParty
Protects your wallet and the environment, spices up your own wardrobe and on top of that it makes everyone happy – swapping clothes is simply a great thing! This weekend at Kunsttankstelle, discarded clothes can be exchanged for new treasures. And this is how it works: The clothes you bring (not more than 3 kilos) are weighed on site, for every kilo you get a "1 kilo voucher". This can then be exchanged for a kilo of clothes. Applies not only to clothes but also to vinyl, games, books and even to plants! Whatever is left over is given to Caritas.

Imagetanz
The imagetanz festival whirls through the city from today – until 28 March this means dancing, partying and experiencing really great local and international performances. At the opening in the Brotfabrik in Favoriten you can experience two international guest performances in one evening – it's all about the relationship between dance and music and Franco-Icelandic soundscapes. Afterwards there will be a party warm-up with DJ Randalia. The motto of this year's festival is "We dance what you think", the dancers try to explore contemporary social tensions.

Strong voices, strong women
Today in the Sofiensäle, there is a women-dominated music event, as it is International Women's Day. Singer/songwriter Virginia Ernst hosts colleagues from the local music scene and the German pop singer Jeanette Biedermann offers a first-rate women's concert. The focus of the concert is – besides the music – the existence of women and the social disadvantages connected with it. The Schick Sisters are present, the Kernölamazonen and also Simone Kopmajer. Oh, and the proceeds of the concert go to the project "Legal protection for women and children".

Of Bread, Wine, Cars, Security and Peace
Well then, let's go – today the first exhibition of the new director's collective WHW of the Kunsthalle starts! In allusion to everything that seems unattainable for large parts of humanity, it tells of "bread, wine, cars, security and peace". More than 30 artists criticise the brutal processes that make a life worth living impossible. What’s unusual about it: All halls, passages, corners and the shop will be used for the vernissage. For the opening, a choir sings battle songs and Marlene Streeruwitz, who is represented in the exhibition with her 13 theses, reads – “Mach Aufruhr".

Women’s Day 2020
Now that’s how we like it! For Women’s Day, Vienna will be fully under petticoat government for once. With many offers from art to dance. In the Leopold Museum women pay only half price today and go on a guided tour to trace the history of Vienna around 1900, in the Kunsthistorisches Museum and the World Museum it's all about healers and heroines in art and on Stephansplatz there is singing, dancing and demonstrations using the motto "Each for Equal". However, all these events do not hide the fact that equality between men and women is far from being achieved.

Gina Schwarz
Gina Schwarz has been considered a productive catalyst of the Austrian jazz scene for several years now. For her new album, the double bass player and composer has brought together an extra-fine formation with which she pays homage to the baroness of jazz: Pannonica de Koenigswarter, née Rothschild, was one of the most important promoters of modern jazz, which for her embodied modernism and tolerance. "Pannonica" is now the name of the tribute with strong solos and colourful collective impros. A reminder of the custom of patronage.

Why is the big toe not always the biggest one? How does it feel when the left head hurts? And what on earth is an eruption disorder? Today, you can giggle, chuckle and burst with laughter at the CasaNova. Because that’s where Omar triggers a “Herzalarm” with his jokes. By the way, the man is actually a paediatric and adolescent surgeon and became famous with his YouTube hit "Disco Disco Party Party". Where the Wild Women Live
When Odin looks down from the godly heaven on the northern volcanic island, he sees fairies, trolls and elves. And women inspired by the challenging nature. The book "Where the Wild Women Live" portrays 10 Icelandic women who draw their unbridled strength from their unique environment: sailor, ranger, brewer – musician Björk is also represented. These women are "wild" because they allow themselves to reinvent the definition of fragile and strong. Perhaps that’s why Iceland has been at the top of the Global Gender Gap Report for years. Today the author reports.

Places where history has been decided are the destination of this unusual sightseeing tour in theatre style. The philosopher and cultural critic Boris Buden leads the audience on foot and by tram, as it were, back along the timeline to Vienna in 1848, passing places of historical upheaval and progressive movements, places of resistance against National Socialism and demonstrations for an open society. The guide – as a Freud expert – locates a Vienna full of uncanny symptoms. Tickets are available at the Burgtheater box office.

Vis a Vis
Ever since Shopping Queen plus camera team visited her in her small, neat shop atelier in the hip district of Neubau, the junior designer Andrea Kerber has been swamped with requests for her beige trenchcoat with the small, white details. Nevertheless, she’s still calmly tailoring away behind the cash counter and that means trendy, cheeky fashion for us – everything of hers is very reduced, everything has a little twist. The fabrics are all natural or Tencel, some of them designed by herself: There's even a collection with motifs from the plastic six-pack bottle crates that pollute our oceans. We’ll have to remember this one!

Dogenhof
That house itself is first-class! For years, the 1899 "Venetian Palazzo" has been the home of the analogue-manufacturer Supersense and its café, loved by CitySpotterGirl. Now the venue next door was finally vacant, they did some reconstruction, tore the wall down – and the Dogenhof was finished. With a unique concept for Vienna: they cook exclusively over an open fireplace and with wood-burning ovens! And right in the middle of the restaurant. On the oven monster they grill over logs of wood or roast things in the embers, everything cold is served raw or fermented. Sounds unusual, tastes great (the pork belly!) and is so hip!
