"Heya Girls!"
Wow, is that an early spring? With twittering birds, friendly grinning faces, sun-tingling skin – and already the first self-grown (!) mushrooms and chervil in my windowsill garden. Rocket is already springing as well. I can really use that: Because on Tuesday the latest trend kitchen bible “Shaking Salad” by the food blogger Karin Stöttinger will be presented in Babette’s. The book includes: many tasty, refined and quickly prepared shaking salads for everyday. And spring can never come to town as fast as the new salad-in-the-glass-trend from New York has won the CitySpotterGirl editors’ hearts ;-) The basic idea is as simple as it is genius: just fill a glass in layers with green stuff, fruits, vegetables and other favourite ingredients and when you get spring-hungry, just pour over your favourite dressing, shake it briefly and the fresh lunch-break-wonder is ready! Current favourite: couscous-strawberry-sheep-cheese-salad with buttermilk dressing. Samples will be served at the book presentation!

Wishing you a sunny week

Dee Dee Bridgewater
Spending an evening with her is like a world trip, good sex and Christmas at the same time: actress, Grammy-winner and jazz icon Dee Dee Bridgewater! The dyed-in-the-wool musician has been onstage for almost 50 years and this is exactly where she belongs. After her official concert in the Musikverein today (8pm, tickets from 14 to 42 €) she invites to a little Late-Night-Jam-Session at Schwarzberg. There she’ll spread some more of her powerful-voiced, soulful blues numbers in a relaxed club atmosphere – live and spontaneously. It couldn’t feel closer!

“The Gold of Italy“
One of the most frequently asked questions in the delicatessen shop Casa Caria is “Really, I may use olive oil for cooking?” The answer: “Yes, absolutely!” Manuela and Dario Santangel, who present their olive oil book “The Gold of Italy“ there today, will prove it and show-cook one of their recipes where they marinade, aromatise, emulsify and fry with olive oil. Afterwards, the author duo talks about their search for oil traces in history, art and literature. And then, olive oils in their best use can be sampled at a Mediterranean buffet.

„Spring awakening“: yoga & nutrition
Easter cleaning can be sooo liberating. Especially when slag and smear of one’s own body are polished away. This is what happens today at the season brunch of TCM nutritionist Sandra Mozorits and yoga expert Angelika Kittel. For one morning, they will provide tired bones with a genuine feeling of spring awakening. The programme starts with a vitalising and invigorating yoga session and continues with delicious vitamin bombs and healthy turbo food during the joint spring brunch. And they also reveal which kind of food makes us particularly beautiful and fit. Neat!

Scout Niblett
Thank brut! As part of the innovative concert series “The Ineffable Me“ another incredibly obstinate, stubborn and unconventional artist makes a guest appearance today – and this is a good thing! Scout Niblett is the name of the young English singer-songwriter, who already refused to whistle other people’s songs when she played the recorder as a child. This is why she has been composing and singing her own songs for years – so successfully that she has already been on tour with PJ Harvey. Tonight the likeable rebel performs her songs in Vienna. They sound melancholy, wild - and wonderfully positive.

Artisan craftwork days
When mentioning the word “design”, nowadays hordes of excited hipsters start jumping around. In contrast to “artisan craftworks”, defined as “handicraft activities with original, creative effort”, which sounds – completely unjustified (!) – as dull as dishwater. Now, more than 170 gold smiths, clock makers, glaziers, bookbinders and potters once again open their studios for three days and invite interested people to watch and wonder. Lots of rare insights are provided for example by violinmaker Martin Rainer in the second district, by shoemaker master Harald Strunz in the 3rd or in the snow globe manufactory in the 17th. So cool!

2 days around the Villa Beer
This makes me want to pull my hair out: Once again a genuine gem of architecture is on the edge of dilapidation and nobody feels responsible! I’m talking about the Villa Beer in the 13th district - Josef Frank’s apartment building masterpiece of the 1930s. For the very first time the private house can now be explored by the public for one weekend. In interesting guided tours through the house, salon discussions and a walk in the surrounding district. And one thing is given away: The seemingly plain building is full of hidden balconies, tea corners and genius room concepts when you open the doors! With a Svenskt Tenn-PopUp!

Eva Choung-Fux
She is one of those artists who have been working critically, committedly and profoundly since the 1960s, but somehow have never received full attention in Austria: Eva Choung-Fux. Now the time has come! The rebel, born in Vienna in 1935, and, by the way, the first lecturer in fine art photography at the University of Applied Arts, comes up with a huge retrospective. As of today, the MUSA displays her most important print graphics, paintings and photographs. And everything else that, in the view of the Asia-affiliated artist, exists “After the End of the World”: “radiant motives” and “thinkers”, for example. Great woman, great pictures!

Basic Gentle Running
Okay, away with your peep toes, strappy sandals & pumps for a moment! Now we run barefoot for one evening and finally move completely naturally again, unconstrictedly and freely. In her course “Gentle Running”, running coach Ruth Riehle shows couch- and office potatoes how to move effortlessly and upright using the Feldenkrais method. This has more to do with body awareness and coordination than with testosterone-directed stopwatches and best times. Just bring along comfortable running clothes and good mood and start running towards lightness and easiness.

No piece of Love
Pure lies! Although the new performance show of the "Ich bin O.K." Dance Company deals with the current refugee situation, terrorist attacks, fear and lack of solidarity, the title is an ironic and coquet one. Because the eleven dancers – with and without disabilities – come to terms with current world events, with an extra portion of love, hope and lifeblood. Hip-hop bomb steps are mixed with contemporary feather-light jumps. And the global St. Vitus’ dance gradually turns into an optimistic round dance. This could be due to the actual message: the winner is love!

Art Nouveau and Art Déco in Döbling
Jesus, what a golden age it was when people saw “the necessary among the superfluous” and “beautiful things with a function” were no contradiction :) Today, Viennese Art Nouveau and Secession Style finally are celebrated properly again! Together with tourist guide Ursula Schwarz, history- and architecture enthusiasts meander along decorative lines and floral ornaments in the 19th district. Amongst other things, they discover the Josef Hoffmann villas at Hohe Warte, the Zacherl manufactory (photo) and the Karl Marx Hof – also known as the “1 kilometre community housing Art Déco”.

NOBNOBs The candy manufactory
“Cayenne pepper is coming slowly, ginger is there immediately”, candy expert Stephan Putick explains and advises us to suck slowly. In his new candy manufactory even persons without a sweet tooth will have to admit that tastes such as “strawberry pink pepper” or “curry mango” have little in common with the popular sticky-sweet bonbons. Almost 30 different flavours are currently available, produced directly on site. Chop-chop – it’s quite funny to watch the colourful sweets flying off the knife. In this chic manufactory primarily kept in pastels, tasting is expressively allowed ;-)

Amador’s Wirtshaus
Great excitement! Vienna has a new gourmet temple: One of the most successful chefs in Germany has moved to Vienna (for love). So don’t be fooled by the name: The three-star-celebrity cook Juan Amador serves supreme culinary art in his “Wirtshaus”. Only two 8-course-menus are on the menu – and they are full of genius taste-surprises. Guests dine in the exclusively furnished sparkling wine cellar or in the nice grocery store in the front. Prices are damn high, but in order to get the Iced Gemischter Satz with hazelnut milk and caviar or the Mieral pigeon, I would even walk to Grinzing!
