"Heya Girls!"
It is well known that I love the metropolis with all its bustle. But I also love the village feeling in my own neighbourhood. The baker next door knows how I prefer my quick lunch toast, the hairdresser asks about my daughter’s latest adventures on the other continent and I don’t have to travel halfway across town to treat myself with a cranio session. It gives me great pleasure that district and neighbourhood-connecting initiatives are currently springing up like mushrooms. A very nice one, called imGrätzl, turns the upcoming Saturday into a “Feel Good in your neighbourhood”-Day. Wellbeing happenings will take place in six districts, there’ll be free trial sessions from yoga to shiatsu, you may knit, have a massage, paint, be coached – and, most importantly, chat and network like there’s no tomorrow. The CitySpotterGirl sets up her bookstall in the second district, where the nice magda’s Hotel was selected as a feel-good-location. May the good vibes reach the entire city!
Wishing you a pleasant week

Feel Good im Grätzl in the 2nd, 6th, 8th, 9th, 18th & 20th district. June 4, from 14:00. Free entrance. Web

5 in Love
Hi Dee Hooo! The Schwarzberg is turning into a swing club tonight! Buoyantly good vibes are provided by the allegedly best local jive and swing band. Ten years ago, the quintet around “The Voice“ Paul Kreshka and “Mr. Stringbean“ Jürgen Jagfeld won the Austrian Entertainment Award and the gentlemen are also busily involved in the international neo swing scene for years. Currently, the band is recording their fifth long-player, click here for a foretaste or listen to it live tonight. Put on your dancing shoes and jive!

Depending on the participants’ age, interests and education, fitness freaks, academics or people wishing to have children meet each other. Today, everyone aged 27 to 38 is invited to gain experience in 5-minute-getting-to-know-one-another-quickies in the fancy Hotel Zeitgeist.

Laend Yard Rush
That’s an interesting addition to the list of party locations in our beloved city: an excavation! People celebrate on an area at the Erdberger Lände where 270 apartments will soon be constructed – and dig in Vienna’s largest sandpit. Before the party people arrive, treasure boxes with exciting contents will be buried. For example: a 2-room-flat for free for two years (!!) or kilos of silver coins. The 200 happy ones who are allowed to dig each day will be drawn by lot. Herrn Hermes’ sounds, food trucks & pop up stores will create the right party atmosphere in the pit. Whatever next!

SOHO in Ottakring
Tasty and less tasty details around the subject of nutrition are revealed by “SOHO in Ottakring” this year. Once again in the Sandleiten area, with the Sandleiten cinema serving as the festival centre. 25 projects of 80 artists make the district boil in an artistic-culinary way. A kitchen sculpture is being set up in and in front of the cinema for two weeks, a discussion on fat hostility takes place in the former milk kiosk and Margarete Schütte-Lihotzky’s fitted kitchen is presented as a walk-in installation. And tonight: a lecture performance about legends around coffee.

Shiatsu in the Park
This is going to take place every Sunday in fine weather until 11 September: relaxing open-air Shiatsu treatments in the Augarten. Shi-atsu (Japanese) means “finger pressure” and is a deeply effective form of bodywork, which removes blockades in the energy flow. The Shiatsu practitioner palpates the patient’s dressed body with thumbs and hands – as well as elbows, knees and feet – to exert pressure on the meridians. This procedure activates our natural self-healing forces and creates harmony. 15 minutes for 18€, half an hour for 28€.

 Agnes Heller
Agnes Heller – Philosophy of Prejudices
Everyone has prejudices and they have existed for a long time. But where do they come from? In her presentation today, the famous philosopher Agnes Heller analyses the root of all prejudices in her native country Hungary where she was politically oppressed for a long time. The highly valued thinker and former holder of the Hannah Arendt chair in New York is a passionate defender of freedom and democracy and calls Victor Orban a dictator. Aged 87, she is on of the great, much-travelled philosophers of whom there are far too few. Don’t miss! Admission is free, but please register.

 Beate-Maria Platz
The colour turquoise
Beate-Maria Platz likes pebble stones at the beach and loves the way water glitters and shines when splashing over the stones. And she loves the colour turquois. No wonder that her new pictures create holiday feeling in the observers right away! In general, turquoise plays a central role in the artistic work of the painter living in Vienna. As of today, she displays large-format water and stone landscapes, painted in bright acrylic paint. And, especially for the exhibition, she also made room for new turquoise ceramic works, vases and bowls – the artist herself will naturally be at the vernissage today.

Puppet theatre festival
Puppet theatre is for children only? Bullshit! The puppet theatre festival makes the puppets dance for adults as well – and in an incredibly creative and surprising way! Today, a “Paperman” that is softly made alive by the puppet artists will emerge in front of the audience’s eyes. Everyday material, skilfully transformed – and a figure, a friend and an adventure are born. The darkly humorous Neville Tranter production “Punch&Judy“ and the HC-Artmann performance of the Parterre-Akrobaten at Strudlhofstiege are worth seeing as well! Cool.

Fresh art market
Super idea! With a funny initiative, the Kunstfrischmarkt helps young artists to step into the business: In 30 shops from “Casa Caria“ to “Franke Leuchten“ 37 very young artists offer their works for sale. Prices are moderate (50 to 350 euros), the works on display include photos and collages as well as drawings and objects – all of them being originals! While wandering through the 7th district, you’ll gain an insight into the young, up-and-coming Viennese art scene – and who knows, maybe you’ll bargain hunt a future superstar’s work :-)

Name: Sophie Scholl
An unusual location: A theatre play in the festivity hall of the Old Town Hall! However, this is the setting where theatregoers are taken on a search for the heroine Sophie Scholl and pursue the question of how one prefers to live. 70 years after the trial against the “White Rose“, author Rike Reiniger takes a young law student to court – Name: Sophie Scholl. Shortly before her graduation the student is involved in a case of examination cheating and shall witness for the defence of the innocent secretary. This raises a question: What is more important - one’s personal future or moral courage?

Old Ottakring with the night guard
Well, it might not be completely dark at this hour, but he’ll bring along his lantern anyway: the night guard of Old Ottakring. Armed with traditional equipment he’ll guide participants of his tour through the old heart of the suburb. If you join the walk, you’ll plunge into past times: the night guard tells stories, myths and legends of the historic Ottakring, stops at forgotten buildings and former shops. An authentic walk in Viennese language: He explains terms from “Hawara” to “Burnheidl”, meeting point for this unusual tour is the Kornhäusl Villa.

Broad-brimmed Calabrese-style hat or “topper of fear”? In 1848, this was a highly important question indeed, since fearful citizens actually wore top hats back then so as not to be taken for a democrat. Revolutionaries, on the other hand, exposed themselves with felt hats. Current debates about the veil demonstrate just how controversial the theme of headwear continues to be. The new exhibition on hats also narrates fashion history: The former “hat town” Vienna still is home to the only institution in the German-speaking world that teaches hat-making.

The folle truth
The young Viennese artist Katie La Folle knows the fully crazy truth about the life as a revue girl. After all, formerly she herself was a dancer in the Parisian “La Nouvelle Eve“. Back in Vienna, the singing and dancing multi talent skilfully and coquettishly presents the ups and downs of the everyday life of a showgirl. A charming parody of the show business full of lively chansons, champagne and cancan – to laugh, to sigh, to disgust and to writhe. And with its witty mix of Viennese and Parisian humour it also provides a very charming insight into a quite peculiar business.

Lunch at Zum finsteren Stern
The schoolyard is one of the oldest squares in Vienna. And since there are no cars, but only carriages, it is also one of the cosiest places in the first district. The garden of the “Finsterer Stern” has thus always been a romantic place to sit in the evenings. But since last week – surprise! – they also offer lunch! With a funny concept: small menu, the dishes are self-service-like ordered in the restaurant and everything is available for take-away. Filled brown bread with caramelised carrots, for example, salad with chicken, sweet potatoes and mango or spiced panna cotta. Refined taste and very fast. An absolute insiders’ tip!
