"Heya Girls!"
I’m afraid my leadership skills weren’t too distinct yet when I was a child. Although my childhood in the Salzkammergut was pretty happy (lots of nature, mobiles phones not yet invented), nobody ever wanted to play treasure hunt with me. The neighbourhood kids always got their way: for years, we were cowboys and Indians. But times change ;-) Now I run two companies – and as of now, I can play as much treasure hunt as I want! Namely at the Kunsthistorisches Museum. Mystery Hunt is the name of the riddle game for adults inspired by the Da Vinci Code. Starting this week, the first mysteries can already be solved in the Egyptian-Near Eastern Collection and the Antiquities Collection. You play in groups of at least four people, get a box with mysterious clues and riddles when booking, experience the museum in a completely new way and – hopefully – solve the riddle of the sphinx. I think it’s brilliant, it’s 100% analog and cowboys can join in and play as well.

Wishing you a mysterious week,
Your CitySpotterGirl

Egon Schiele. The Making Of A Collection
Not just the paintings themselves are at the centre of this new Schiele-exhibition at the Belvedere, but also the stories behind them. For the centenary of the artist’s death, every exhibited work is combined with the story of its acquisition, the motif, the people portrayed in the images, and the painting techniques he used. They are showing the twenty Schiele-pictures the Belvedere owns, like “Death and Maiden” or “Embrace”, but also international loans, including paintings and sketches that used to be at the Belvedere once. The opening of the show (free entry) is today!

Yes, that’s what we would need on earth: perfect peace and holistic harmony. According to the Buddhist view, we can completely transform the way we experience the world. There is currently a high-ranking Buddhist master in Vienna, who teaches all over the world how to do that: Khentrul Rinpoche belongs to the 1000-year-old Tibetan Jonang-Kalachakra tradition and will personally present his book “Demystifying Shambhala" today. It offers a well-structured description of the Kalachakra path promising eternal bliss and is easy to follow for beginners. There’s also a weekend-seminar!

Entertaining, tragic and sometimes seriously absurd are the facts that artist Cosima Reif has gathered for her book “BeMarkenswertes Wien” and has visualised on 48 stamps. From the anorexic Empress Sisi and the ridiculously expensive Sachertorte to Fiaker horse speed. Today, the likable female “WienWien” city tour guide-trio offers a discovery tour through the inner city together with the artist, which will give visitors the opportunity to enrich their Vienna knowledge with many surprising stories about the people, moments, and monuments.

Energy channels in our body
Everything flowing alright? Better check those meridians! The Traditional Chinese Medicine has been devoting itself to the body’s energy channels for thousands of years, which has resulted in the treatment methods of acupuncture and acupressure. In today’s workshop, Doris Slach, coach and kinesiologist, presents the most important acupressure points for everyday life and explains the routes of the energy channels as well as their specific purposes. Also fascinating are their emotional equivalents and their physical effects – it’s not a coincidence that you’re liverish, after all ;-)

Tamikrest
In Tamasheq, the language of the Tuareg nomads from the Sahara, the band name means something like “intersection” or “alliance”. A fitting name for a band that brilliantly combines traditional desert music with dub, blues, psychedelic, and funk. And their songs also express their story: the musicians are originally from Kidal in north-eastern Mali, many of their family members and friends became refugees due to the brutal Sharia laws. Powerful sound and desert rock by one of the most innovative bands of West Africa. Listen in here!

Literature at Cafe Central
A new reading series involving domestic authors starts today in the time-honoured Cafe Central, which has always been a meeting point for writers, intellectuals and artists, after all. As such, the café is to experience a renaissance with authors now using the same platform that once inspired Stefan Zweig, Franz Kafka and Peter Altenberg. To start off the event today, Doris Knecht, Radek Knapp and Petra Piuk read from their own texts that focus on the life and the writing in a Kaffeehaus. And afterwards, they will talk about their relationships with the Viennese café.

House of Scotland
Very British, very traditional! Only open during the cold season because everything in this store is made from the finest wool, produced by the Scottish, Irish, and Welsh masters of the trade. Original duffle-coats, Scottish kilts, classically-cut jumpers and vests, tweed blazers, beanies, gloves, all sorts of scarves as well as fluffy woollen blankets with all kinds of different chequered patterns (“tartans”). Particularly fancy are the jumpers from the New Zealand label “Noble Wilde” founded by emigrated Scots: for they are made from merino-possum wool, which is even softer than cashmere. Wonderful!
