"Heya Girls!"
The sun will be shining next week in every respect. First of all because we can look forward to some truly amazing autumn days. But mainly because Ludwig Reiter, as if he had sensed it, has smartened up his manor in Süßenbrunn for the Autumn Market. I can already picture myself sitting in his fine garden, sipping coffee and grinning. But only for a moment because then it’s off to storm the factory outlet. And to canvass all the without exception classy fashion and culinary guest-manufactories. Lena Hoschek will be there with her collection, Caleo Cashmere with snuggly knitwear, Eambrandis with enchanting jewellery. Truly everything here is special. Whether it’s members of the Bavarian State Opera orchestra playing, or a shoe care seminar demonstrating how affectionately you should treat your shoes, or being wooed by Karma Food with delicious curries and desserts. Super nice atmosphere, autumnal dreamlike setting – and they now have my favourite shoes (the Norwegians) in coral red ;-)

Wishing you a charming week,
Your CitySpotterGirl

Faces
Not only Cicero but we ourselves know that the face is a reflection of the soul ;-) A look in the mirror, at the latest, unveils the true feelings – from super happy to super frustrated. Now you can read in the porcelain- and photo faces of other people and times at the new special exhibition Faces at Augarten. You will get to see tableaux vivants photographs created by Rita Nowak. And charming porcelain figurines from Baroque, Rococo and Art Deco, obviously. Every period has (and had) its very own role models, encodings and sensitivities. Fascinating!

Meinl’s Gourmet Night
Please don’t eat anything during the day today! Better show up from 20:00 at the gourmet temple Meinl am Graben with as hearty an appetite as possible. They host more than 70 delicacy-producers there with their “culinary delights”. From Ruinart and Ayala champagne to Imperial caviar and 36-month-old Vulcano raw ham to gnocchi with truffles and sweet camel milk specialties from Dubai, you can try and taste everything. They also serve little Amouse-Bouches from their own award-winning cuisine and patisserie. Off to the tasting nirvana!

Violet Spin
There will be classic fiddling as well as groovy plucking at Sargfabrik today. This is mainly due to the four-in-hand “Violet Spin” around composer and violinist Irene Kepl, who is well-known for mixing genres in a bold and humorous way. And just like that, a very special listening experience is created from jazz, groove, a string quartet and contemporary music. But don’t worry, special doesn’t mean super-exhausting-experimental in this case, on the contrary: light, buoyant – and consistently surprising. You can listen in here. And they are at their best when they’re live anyway!

Vienna City Knits
After urban and guerrilla knitting local knitting queens are now being wrapped around the finger by a new stitch trend. Or rather, by a cute stitching trendsetter :-) For nobody less than designer Louis Boria – alias Brooklyn Boy Knits – will fly in from New York for the Vienna Knitting Festival! This cool guy has not only conquered YouTube with his scarf- and hat art but also the entire knitting world. He himself will hold two workshops. But there will be other innovative courses on the programme as well, like Tunisian crocheting or mosaic knitting.

This year, KulturHerbst Neubau will put the spotlight on women who shape the district for four days. Culture professionals, fashion designers and all those who pull the different strings: the women at whose places you eat and drink, who offer a stage to small art, who are active within the district. All tours, exhibitions, films screenings, theaters and workshops are free of charge. Like for instance today’s Designwalk leading to various fashion labels in the district, the Beisl tour on Saturday or the Analogue Photowalk. Nice!

Vienna Autumn Days
From apples and pears to lesser-known wild fruit and chilli peppers – autumn offers a colourful variety, harvest-wise. The Autumn Days at Burggarten organised by the Bundesgärten and the Gartenbau-Gesellschaft are all about enjoying autumnal fruits this year. You can get to know exotics like persimmon or mini-kiwi there, shop fine things like saffron, poppy- or chokeberry products, admire the plants from Bundesgärten, and stock up on flower bulbs or young fruit trees. And gardening fans can bring different types of fruit with them and have them identified.

Around Lainzer Tiergarten
Phew, 25 kilometres of trail running through the Vienna woods, that sounds a bit over-motivated at first. But firstly, you can cut the round short (for instance to 18km until the exit Liesing). And secondly, there are different fitness level groups that run at different speeds. So if you can’t go on, you’ll just wait for the next-slower group. Nobody will be left behind. They start at 9:30 by the Nikolaitor in Hütteldorf. It can’t hurt to familiarise yourself with a few of the community guidelines with regard to running behaviour and equipment beforehand. And go!

 Galerie Zetter
Ceramics in Vienna 1900-1930
For a whole 5 years, the team of Galerie Zetter worked on the preparations for this new ceramics exhibition! And the result is nothing to sneeze at – for the first time even non-hardcore-porcelain fans are offered a great overview of the ceramic art in Vienna at the beginning of the 20th century. You can see (and buy!) beautiful Art Nouveau vases, decorative candlesticks and animal sculptures of all kind. Which will certainly look as pretty in your own four walls ;-) Particularly nice: the “Baboon” by Eduard Klablena and the “Two Female Heads” by Gudrun Baudisch.

Das Bootshaus Autumn Party
It’s a little bit too cold for swimming now, but you can still spend a chill Sunday on the water! So, off to Alte Donau where Das Bootshaus is hosting an autumn party. Besides culinary things from autumnal delicacies to Sturm, there’s also a small pop-up market taking place on the terrace right at the water. With organic wines and grape juice from winery Urban, imaginative glass bead jewellery and chutneys from Unverschwendet. Punch and lebkuchen are also on the programme but we’re just going to blink that away, the sun is so bright here on the water ;-)

Day of Open Temple Door
There are actually a number of Buddhist centres in Vienna that you usually don’t notice much. But today, they open their doors and allow for a fascinating trip into the Buddhist community: with guided mindfulness meditations and lectures, workshops and introductions to Zen practice. At the Buddhist centre on Fleischmarkt (a building well worth seeing!), there is also a smoke-sacrificial-ritual for the elimination of obstacles taking place. By the way, you can read CitySpotterGirl’s interview with one of the world’s first Buddhist priestesses here.

Hobby tailors have to be really valiant this weekend. And diligent! Austria’s biggest fair for fabrics resides at Stadthalle. Which means that you have no choice but to study the newest textile trends and sewing techniques and to attend exciting free lectures and workshops from morning to night. They will show how to transfer patterns per app entirely without paper, for instance, how to produce funny embroidered emblems or how to pull colourful patchwork patterns out of your hat in no time. Now if that doesn’t give you ideas and make your DIY heart sing!

You gotta be fast now! Only until 21 October you can still admire the flower-power-paintings by landscapist Olga Wisinger-Florian. Along with Tina Blau and Marie Egner, sheformed part of the avant-garde artists around the turn of the century. Her powerful close-up views still fascinate you today, for example “Blühender Mohn” and extreme perspectives (like “Sommerabend”). Special Tip: there is a real plant installation of her “Wildwachsende Artischocken in Euxinograd” – only until today! – by Zweigstelle. Twice as enchanting!

Effective Micro-Organisms Info Night
70 % of all life on earth – which includes animals, plants and us humans – consist of micro-organisms. Today at Kräuterdrogerie, smarty-pants can learn how and why particular mixtures of them optimise body processes, enhance water or prevent the formation of putrefaction in the soil. They inform about and discuss effective micro-organisms in cleaning products, cosmetics, ceramics & co. So why not use the “useful animalcules” to bring the environment, household and body (depending on your priority list ;-) back into shape?!

Since you can’t and don’t want to just jog up and down on Prater Hauptallee during your free time, you definitely need some meditation on your list as compensation as well. After all, inner balance and joie de vivre are the true engines of life! In any case, today with this Intro-Night by Meditas is the perfect day to start with calming down and starting the practise of mindfulness. Caravaggio & Bernini
One thing is certain, there is another once-in-a-century exhibition in the making at Kunsthistorisches Museum! At the heart of it: the world-famous baroque painter and “drama-to-canvas-bringer” Michelangelo Merisi da Caravaggio. He stirred up Rome not only with his revolutionary artistic ideas but also with his wild lifestyle, grin. From today, 60 of his colour-intensive main works can be admired in Vienna, like the brutal-fascinating “David with the Head of Goliath” and “The Crowning with Thorns”. Sculptural baroque power is provided by his colleague Lorenzo Bernini.

15th Vienna Crime Novel Night
Lots of assassinating and murdering going on again tonight in Vienna – only in the literary sense, of course. More than 40 “grandmasters of horror” are at the legendary Crime Novel Night to read from their current novels. Crime scenes can be found at various cafés, but also at Zentralfriedhof or at 48er Tandler. Franzobel presents a spooky „Rechtswalzer” at the Hotel Imperial, for example, Kurt Palm is hunting “monsters” at Café Korb and Theresa Prammer makes the audience shriek with “Die unbekannte Schwester” at Café Museum. Especially nice: free entry everywhere!

"Schrei dich frei”
Yes, it does happen that CitySpotterGirl is at the end of her tether or loses her temper in frustration. Since you shouldn’t let out your pent-up aggression at the office or at the checkout in the supermarket though, Petra Döller offers more environment-friendly alternatives tonight. In the “Scream yourself free”-workshop of the energy worker and pedagogue, anger, tension and old behavioural patterns are simply chased away with movement-, writing-, dance- and meditation exercises. Bring a cosy blanket, blindfold and writing material. And yes, of course you are allowed to scream properly!

Escape!
There’s no doubt: when the Austrian shock artist Deborah Sengl turns MuseumsQuartier into an Escape-Room, there’s no getting out of it! There are now 300 sqm forriddle quests and scavenger hunts from one installation room to another. Provided that you solve the tricky tasks, emotional states of emergency and seemingly hopeless situations on the topic of “escape”. The 60-minute-challenge inspires you to reflect and emphasise and confronts you with fears that also haunt real refugees. But we are not going to spoiler anything here, obviously. With registration only!

Die Duetten
Well, here we have two vocally powerful originals! Michaela Khom from Styria and the Burgenland native Isabel Gaber have joined forces as “Die Duetten”, which means: dialect chansons and musical cabaret. And they are so entertaining and funny that they have just released their first album. It’s called “Für Hugo” and will be presented today at Haus des Meeres. The hymns are dedicated to their favourite meals, love, life and to all scaredy-cats. It’s not by chance that in their women power lingo they say „Scheiß di net an!” (“Don’t piss yourself”). Grin.

So far, the Goldene Quartier isn’t exactly the liveliest neighbourhood of Vienna. But since last week, a venue so charming has been opened that things might change.
