"Heya Girls!"
When they play “Die Fledermaus” in Vienna’s public outdoor pools and the operetta classic by Johann Strauß gets out of control, turning into a shrill, wet and gaudy party of Prince Orlofsky. When gap site concerts are taking place at Nordbahnhof (Molden and the Frauenorchester will play!) and an illusionist reads minds in Virgilkapelle. When Deix figures are wandering through the districts during a travelling exhibition and there is romantic singing at intersections in Dornbach during the red-light periods of the traffic lights. When boat concerts are taking place again on Alte Donau and paper-animals are being made all over Vienna. Then, dear women, the Festival “Wir sind Wien” (We are Vienna) has started. For 23 days, from 1 June, the city will serve as a stage for beauty, craziness and thrill every day in another district in a most creative (and entertaining!) way. And since I have lived in several metropolitan cites, I can quite rightly state: no city shimmers as imaginatively as Vienna! The opening is on Friday in Stadtpark.

Wishing you a lively week,
Your CitySpotterGirl

Dinner at Kunsthistorisches
Originally, we had a tip for a holiday-brunch in the garden here. But since they have all been cancelled due to the weather, we have retreated into the dry indoors. Namely to the impressive domed hall of Kunsthistorisches Museum where an elegant dinner is served tonight. They are going to dish up all kinds of delicacies at the nightly-deserted museum, from steamed salmon to dry aged steak. A dessert buffet and a tour through the picture gallery top off the night. Perfect for romantic moments as a couple or a nice evening with your girlfriends. Reservation is necessary!

Nepal Art Now
We still notice it far too little here, but a vibrant, young art scene is currently developing in Nepal. Which meanders between its traditional roots and Western influences and serves as a great example how the local, the national and the global interplay today. For the first time here, an exciting exhibition presents this current art from Nepal at Weltmuseum, with topics ranging from the earthquake in 2015 to women’s rights and religion. On Friday, the artists Ang Tsherin Sherpa (picture), Hit Man Gurung and Sheelasha Rajbhandari will personally lead through the show!

Gürtelconnection
That’s a pretty long party street between Thaliastraße and Josefstädterstraße when the venues in the Stadtbahn arcs join together for the legendary Gürtelconnection. On the public holiday, they will celebrate and dance, sing, make music, chat and drink in and in front of the vaults. In exchange for a voluntary donation, you can visit all 14 locations, and with all together 60 acts and DJs the programme isn’t exactly inconsiderable, either. And really versatile! The Petwa band, for instance, brings western African rhythms with electronic touch to Fania Live. Which sounds like this.

Hawaiian Hula-Dance
Aloha! We already got the Hawaiian greeting down. Now we only need to practice the Hula and we’re ready for the holidays. The course for beginners and advanced people teaches the basic steps of the Hawaiian dance and will even have you study a few choreographies. The course features the most common variety “Hula Auana” from 1880. If you’d like to show up to the class with some background-info: originally, the Hula dance was the pantomimic story of the islands’ history, their gods, nature and their people. The dance-fun during the performance is just a side-effect.

Bim Concerts and Symphony at MQ
Now, public transport is not exactly known for being pleasant. Rather for being full, stuffy and filled with annoying people talking on the phone. But not today: for a brand-new tram is turned into a concert hall: on board are pianist Bela Koreny and Lilian Klebow, as well as Simone Niederer who warbles songs like “Für mich soll’s rote Rosen regnen” accompanied by piano sounds. The entry point is on Karlsplatz at the Otto-Wagner pavilion, the tour around the ring will take around 45 minutes. If you prefer it statelier, you can listen to the Vienna Symphony’s Open-Air-Concert in the evening. Both with free entry!

Klamotterie goes Charity
The Second Hand pop up Klamotterie enters its second round and it’s going to be big. Because this time, the fashion- and design flea market takes place at Novomatic Forum. There you can purchase vintage fashion and designer and non-designer accessories at absolute bargain prices – conveniently on a Sunday, as well. And what does almost belong to weekend shopping like a handbag to a lady? Correct: prosecco and appetisers. By the way, all proceeds go to the welfare institution Neunerhaus. Thai Smile Kultur Festival
When a “Smile Festival” takes place in Vienna, you’d better go there straight away. We don’t have much to laugh at currently, anyway… And obviously, it’s not grumpy Viennese smiling here but friendly people from Thailand. For on the weekend, the 150-year-long relationship between Austria and Thailand is celebrated – with traditional dance performances, Thai music, art, and tons of Thai food, of course. If you want, you could also buy the Asian products and foods for at home. By the way, Thai beer tastes delicious and will be served as well.

Festive Exodus from Orangery
This could last be seen when the Emperor was still alive! Today, for the first time in over 100 years, the move of the citrus trees out of the Orangery building will be celebrated as a festive event, following the tradition of the imperial court gardeners. Gardeners will move the plants out of the sheltered Orangery to the Orangery’s ground floor with historical transport carriages pulled by horses, with handcarts and old equipment. Plus, they have guided tours on the history of the Schönbrunn citrus collection dating back to Maria Theresia – and the gardeners will demonstrate the correct repotting of your own plants.

 Amazing Yoga Vienna
Yoga at Secret Garden
You probably haven’t experienced Schönbrunn this calm and tourist-free before. That’s exactly why the yoga class takes place in the early morning in a secluded corner of the Schlosspark. In an area hidden by bushes next to Landtmann’s Jausenstation, yoga is happening here from 8:30. Apart from classic asanas, the focus lies on posture exercises. Included are fresh air and bird’s twittering, plus vitamin D. Yoga outside brings double and threefold benefits – a decrease of stress levels, the stimulation of the metabolism and it makes your spirit happy. All levels welcome!

Geymüllerschlössl
An enchanted park that’s unknown to most anyone and a gorgeous little palace – sounds like the perfect Sunday outing. The destination is a Biedermeier-gem in the 18th district which used to be the “summer residence” of a Viennese banker. Geymüllerschlössl is only open on Sundays during the warm season and houses the Empire & Biedermeier furniture collection of MAK. Every Sunday at 15:00 o’clock, guided tours give insight into the diversity of Biedermeier life. And all around the Schlössl, you can rest in the shade under the trees and chill.

The Six Brandenburg Concertos
One of the most important figures in contemporary dance meets one of the greatest composers of classical music of all time. Anne Teresa De Keersmaeker’s company Rosas dance to Johann Sebastian Bach’s music. The Belgian choreographer’s simple choreography consists of such basic elements of movement as walking, turning and jumping, the live orchestra and 16 dancers immerse themselves in the music. Although Bach certainly did not intend his Brandenburg Concertos to be danced to – De Keersmaeker proves that they should be.

Art Exhibition Herbststraße
“Tuna Salad” or “Price for 1kg Meat”. No, we are not at the supermarket, but in the middle of the take on the topic sustainability by the students of the KunstModeDesign School Herbststraße. Fifteen objects were created in the metal class – and from today they will be exhibited at unusual places in Ottakring to raise public awareness: like at a bus-stop, behind a bike shed, at the waste island or at the football cage Schuhmeierplatz. They will be presented for the first time today - during a joint round tour with the artists this evening.

Female Photographers
The title of the exhibition “Ping Pong” mustn’t be taken literally. In this case, “Ping Pong” does not refer to a sports activity but rather an artistic one. The initiative Female Photographers Vienna has approached the two photography artists Virginia de Diego and Julia Gaisbacher and asked them to let their works “play with each other”. This resulted in a picture story, consisting of thirty scenes. Every single photograph does in some way refer to the one before, either by content or by capturing the mood. The vernissage is tonight!

Madame Baheux
Well, it will be quite a terrific medley when these four ladies start playing. The musicians from Madame Baheux will open up their big repertoire box for their concert at Sargfabrik. Which ranges from groovy jazz and strange original compositions to traditional folk songs from Macedonia. With a hefty portion of Viennese thrown in, as well. An evening that will be witty, tangy and crazy, and young, feminine and cheeky anyways. The charming musicians are playing catchy World Music - which makes it really hard to stay seated. Baking sourdough bread
In recent years, sourdough bread has evolved from an article of food to a trend product. It just simply tastes too good – which explains the prices that yuppie bakeries ask for it. Solution? Do it yourself! You can learn how to make a sourdough starter, increase it and bake with it in today’s workshop by Kräuter.Wiesen.Wissen. Afterwards, you will go home armed with recipes, material and ingredients – and the self-made baked goods, of course! Great, because bread from sourdough is digestible, has an amazing aroma and has a long preservability.
And it’s best when it’s self-made, obviously ;-)

 Anna Stangl
Anna Stangl: Nature
Like scrolling through a dream-image diary: Anna Stangls drawings and shear cuts seem so delicate and enchanted, almost like poetry in pictures. You see scary animals with glittering yellow eyes observing a sleeping woman, another one shows an oversized blackbird carrying a woman and hovering above some wild flower fields. It’s the female body and its relation to the world of animals and plants that is the focus of the current exhibition “Nature”. For the opening, you might try to elicit from the artist herself the stories that the fairy-tale works are supposed to tell.

Zweigstelle Boutique
A visit to Zweigstelle Boutique in the heart of Vienna is like a journey into a paradise of scents. However, the scents do not come from flowers, like in Andreas Bamesberger’s first store in the 9th district, but from scented candles. Here you can find the entire product line of the French company Cire Trudon, the oldest wax manufactory in the world. The elegant fragrances in the light-flooded shop range from sandalwood to grapefruit, special collections like “Old Brickwork” or “Fresh Laundry” have been specially composed by perfumers. In addition, they have a selection of beautiful vases and pictures. So pretty!

The LaLa
They really are busy-bee entrepreneurs: the “Veganista-sisters” have not only opened eight vegan ice cream parlours in Vienna already, but also their first vegan restaurant this week. The adorable store in countless shades of pink is mainly intended as a take-away, but they also have a few usually fiercely contested seats. From 8:00, you can get breakfast, with smoothies, bread, super-food spreads and porridge (also available as gluten free Teff grains!) For the rest of the day, their bowls suggest themselves, called Rounds here, decorated with microgreens – and which you can also have as a sweet dish.
