"Heya Girls!"
In the next few days, you could turn a corner somewhere in Vienna and meet people who are on the trail of historical criminal cases. Or you could run into a group of people dancing wildly, turning the pavement into a disco. And if you discover fire walls or construction sites that were changed into an open air cinema - yes, you can be certain that the festival "We are Vienna" has come to town. What used to be prosaically called "Bezirkswochen" has mutated into a cool round of events in the last years. For 23 days, the public space becomes a living room for all - each day in another district! With: a knitting laboratory, a pop-up Heuriger, 23 atelier visits (image) and walking concerts, where we can navigate through the city jungle with a wireless headphone-concert. Ah and don't be surprised if you walk into poetry slammers while waiting for public transports. They slam 'til the bus comes ;-)

Wishing you a nice week
Your CitySpotterGirl

We are Vienna. 1-23 June. Free entrance. Web

P.S. On Saturday, there will be a party in the Phorusgasse in front of the editorial office! Web

 Wien Museum
Experiment Metropole
In 1873, Vienna decided to become a metropolis. During the period of promoterism, the population doubled to over a million and the Ring road, the water pipes and the central cemetery were built. Vienna's new-found pride unloaded in a world exhibition that was five times as big it had been in London and Paris: 53,000 exhibitors, 194 pavilions, for which a 40 (!) days walk was needed! Pure gigantism! The Wien Museum reminds us of that time with 1000 exhibits. They show all the glamour, all the faith in progress - but also some obscure items: the Viennese from 1873 could slurp a cocktail in an Indian wigwam.

Sale at Clemens en August
Ladies, who wants to go shopping on the public holiday? Of all places, the Leopold Museum is having a super sale with items at up to minus 70%! Visitors will be able to buy the casual clean-chic pieces of the cult brand "Clemens en August". The designer, Alexander Brenninkmeijer (yes, from the C&A dynasty) usually sells his dresses and jackets, shirts and tops at quite expensive prices. But today, they can be purchased at bargain prices - and they're rather exclusive. Because as we know, "Clemens en August" can't be bought in any shop in the entire world, it is only sold for a few days in museums.

Wine tasting on the Danube's beach
"Kritzendorf is lively!", that's what winemaker Isabella Rohinger promises as she invites all today to a wine tasting on the Donaustrand. The new wines of five local winemakers can be tried at the pavilion located on the lawn in Strombad Kritzendorf. Veltliner, rivaner and "gemischter satz" will provide for a festive mood, small snacks will of course also be available. Ascencion day in a small Viennese paradise, with a city beach and a nice lawn - that could turn into a relaxed afternoon. Tip: visitors can meet "Herr Fritz", a subtle fellow from the frizzante family, at Isabella Rohringer's stand ;-)

 GAMS
Christina Zurbrügg & Die Spritbuam
This elemental force has to be experienced at least once! Christina Zurbrügg, the "yodeller of the 21st century", will raise the roof tonight at Spittelberg. Her rocky-radical mix of yodel and accordion (here) makes of the Viennese salon-yodeller something between ethnopop and rap - accompanied by soprano sax and synthesizer. The second act is held by "Die Spritbuam". The three former choirboys have packed satyrical texts inside catchy melodies - with puns and turbo-charm! The double concert takes place during the festival "Wien im Rosenstolz", new folk music that is colourful and confident.

Vintagerie industrial pop-up store
As the saying goes, "life punishes those who delay", and that's why the "Vintagerie" acted very spontaneously and opened up a pop-up store in the currently closed "Bizzo". Once again, it's simply cool! There are industrial pieces of furniture from pharmacy cabinets to toolboxes, Jieldé lamps and station clocks, bar stools, lockers and illuminated letters. Functional, minimalist, rough - and so hip! Those looking for a pep of "zeitgeist" for their home or office, a metropolitan feeling for their bar or shop - the Vintagerie's design rowdies have the answer. Let's go there!

Poetry Red-light Slam
Vienna is real shameless today! A poetry slam is taking place at the Arena Bar (a former brothel!), dedicated to the topic of erotic. A red light slam, so to speak. Additional highlights: "MC Poesie", Nina Müller and Henrik Szanto will moderate! Cunning, scraping against the rhythmical border between poetry and music, the participants will approach this hot subject in 2 short texts during the poetry-reading competition. Those who want to slam themselves can join in. At the end, the public chooses who did it the best!

Lawn festival & garden pop-up store
The Phorusgasse turns into the centre of the city today. In a way ;-) There will be a street festival in the street in front of the CitySpotterGirl editorial office (next to hundreds of boxes full of meadow flowers) - and this time, the weather will keep up! There will be a fashion show by Lu Design, a street picnic, a concert by the singer-songwriter Juliane Blinzer, a salsa lesson on the pavement and flower action for children. And in our tiny park, last Saturday's nice garden pop-up store will show up again. With pretty things for inside and outside. And you are all cordially invited!

Life Ball
And this is naturally the second must-go appointment of the day! When the Rathausplatz is filled with shrill birds clad in shimmering garments, then the time has come: it's the Life Ball! The ball itself has been sold-out for a while, but those who still want to see celebs (Ricky Martin, Bill Clinton, Lindsay Lohan and Carmen Carrera will be there) should throw themselves into the turmoil on the Rathausplatz. And the fashion show is a real hit this time: Jean Paul Gaultier, Vivienne Westwood, the couple Etro und Margherita Missoni will even personally attend it!

Tasting at Wilde Beere
Sloes-olives, white truffle nuts, bitter orange and bergamot marmalade, medlar jelly - ever tried any of those? "Wilde Beere" is a small, fine wild fruit and herbs manufactory that finds its raw materials in the Viennese vineyards and forests, and creates very unusual products (6 to 8 Euros per glass). They can be used as filling for pancakes and crepes, to accompany pâtés and cheese - or simply to enjoy on their own. The "Wilde Beere"'s unusual creations can be tasted today at the Slow-Food stand on the Karmelitermarkt.

Ten Thousand Tigers
Tigers appear and disappear again just like shadows. They live in houses with walls of human skin and roofs of human hair and they behave just like humans. Ho Tzu Nyen, director and theatre producer from Singapour, has used this Malaysian fairy-tale to create surreal rooms with a message: just like the deforestation of mangrove forests led to the extinction of tigers, we humans will also disappear because of the destruction of the environment and soon, we will be nothing more than memories and mythology. This grandiose picture show is a Festwochen-insider's tip!

Die Koje
Ahoi! "Die Koje" docks in Vienna - the specialist of pieces of furniture made from stone pine, now has his very own shop in Vienna. And those who have slept on stone pine beds already know: it’s a very special experience. "Our bed is a healthy Birkenstock that looks like an Italian designer shoe", say the founders of "Koje". The beds are pretty, they seem light with a timeless elegance - and they’re healthy: essential oils in the wood reduce heart frequency. While sleeping in a stone pine bed, the heart spares around 3,500 beats per night, which corresponds to an hour of heart-work! So starting today: try lying on them!

I don't want to brag here, but there are some things that I can do really well: baking zucchini cake, building Billy shelves, parking. But I am completely bad at one discipline: drilling. However, this could be over soon: there is a real handiwork lesson for women only taking place at Bauhaus today!
