"Heya Girls!"
Okay, fast forward! Stoffbruch: Berlin street wear. Tiberius: extraordinary. Elke Freytag: feminine. La Femme Mimi: from Vietnam. Lothar Daniel Bechtold: wow, how elegant. On the weekend, we will be hearing designer’s names all over the place. Or see them with our very own eyes – as the largest temporary boutique in town will open its gates again. At the Modepalast, about 100 designers from Austria and abroad will present their newest collections: from street wear through urban couture to high fashion. For three days you can have a look, try things out, talk with the designers and make purchases. This time there will also be daily fashion shows at the palace in the style of the old Parisian haute couture salons for the first time. And the fashion school Hetzendorf invites you to “upcycle fashion”: participants will creatively redesign old t-shirts and accessories together. Well then, ladies, pack up your purses and enter the fray. And if you want an insiders’ tip: have a look at the wonderfully flamboyant robes by Emanuel Burger! This 20-year-old designer, who like your CitySpotterGirl comes from Attersee lake, will surely become Austria’s next shooting star!

Wishing You a Lovely Week,

1zu3 Art Room Alsergrund
At the Alsergrund things are really in motion at the moment. New restaurants, new galleries and today yet another opening: as of today, the gallery 1zu3 will show contemporary photography and art from Austria. The focus will be on pictures by the gallery owner himself, Peter Steiner, who also gave the art room its name with their format (1:3). Three additional exhibitions per year are also planned, from the realm of painting as well as “audible art” in the form of readings. At the vernissage Peter Steiner’s photos from Paris and Verona will be shown: Italian flair and French charm.

The Fair Magelone
It is a romantic fable, Ludwig Tieck’s “Romance of the Fair Magelone”: the king’s daughter falls in love with a count and flees with him, as she has already been promised to someone else. Due to a misfortunate incident, the two lovers are separated and only after an odyssey of several years do they find each other again. Tieck’s interpretation of this medieval material was set to music around 1865 by Johannes Brahms – and tonight everything will be mixed together to form an emotional evening. The wonderful Katharina Straßer will read Tieck, baritone Günter Haumer will sing Brahm’s romances.

Vienna Integration Week
Viennese diversity is alive! The Integration Week celebrates the different cultures living together in Vienna with 279 events for 10 days: an exhibition of international sculpture artists, lectures on how to lose prejudices, a course in Polish swearing as well as concerts and theatre shows are only a small part of the programme. Today the official opening will take place in the Brunnengasse and in the evening, the great women’s duo Catch-Pop String-Strong will play in the Porgy & Bess! And by the way, specifically for this event, jam king Staud has created some integration jam ;-)

Salon Jardin
A picnic at a magical place which is not open to the public at other times. A comfortable garden chair that looks like an art object. A cosy tasting of culinary organic delicacies, accompanied by elated music, below the spring sky – this is the Salon Jardin. Usually the beautiful park belonging to Schloss Hetzendorf is inaccessible to the public. However, for the “Garden Salon” it will be opened: 60 exhibitors will present furniture, design, pottery, plants, food and arts and crafts – current as well as trendy items for a green living room.

Wow! Finally ordering online is over: As of today, you can now buy the H&M Home Collection for “real” in Austria for the first time! The Street Belongs to Us!
I guess I don’t have to point out that the Yppenplatz has long since turned into Vienna’s hipster zone. Yet, there can never be enough involvement to vitalise the place: NoNo (NoStop- Nordzeile) will therefore celebrate a huge street festival today with solar cooking (some kind of huge aluminium satellite dish used as a wok), a workshop with plant cans, live music from Brazil and food from Georgia! And those of you who want to conquer absolutely unknown land can discover ten highlights of the 15th district with the project “must see 15” as of today! Ten audio stations with information in eight languages are ready for use!

80 highly addictive minutes – this is surely going to be entertaining: the opera tragi erotico! In the Hundsturm, the weird story about the allegedly greatest womanizer of all times will be told today: Gael Muchogusto. This blond Spaniard is neither in control of his language nor of his fate, and through his confused declarations of love he becomes entangled in a rapid road movie during which he will meet an onion farmer and a dubious fox. An eight-member live band and video installations will support the actors in this trash opera: rumba sounds, jazz and surf rock music of the 50s included!

Garden Pleasures 2013
A good opportunity to see the other side of the city gates for a change! For three days there won’t be any noble societies but fans of the green stuff gathering for a big garden fair in the former residence of the Babenbergers, Burg Perchtoldsdorf. In the renovated courtyards of the castle, nearly 200 exhibitors will offer everything a green heart desires: old fruit and vegetable varieties, scented plants and spice herbs, rare plants, shrubs and balcony plants. In addition there will be lectures by garden experts, accessories for outside, pottery & jewellery, felted and sewn stuff and delicious local treats!

Picnic on the Mariahilfer Street
It looks like the time has finally come this autumn: Mariahilfer Street will become a no-car zone! At least its core part. This weekend, the Mariahilfer will turn into a “testing area” so that we can try it out in advance: pedestrian area between Esterhazygasse and Neubaugasse, workshops on how to design space, info box and street cinema included.  And today this car-free zone will be turned into a picnic meadow. Croissants and coffee are offered for free while supplies last, everything else has to be brought by the visitors themselves. Well then, pack up your picnic baskets, blankets and sun blocker and off you go to the street!

Inge Morath – People
As she had a feeling for the crucial moment of a scene, she was admitted to the elitist group of Magnum agency photographers as one of the first women in 1955: from then on Inge Morath, a native of Graz, worked as a photo reporter and was always particularly interested in encounters with people. Her portraits are evidence of a sensitive interest for personalities, curiousness about other cultures and subtle humour. The Leica Galerie will now show a selection of this great photographer’s portraits and photo reportage. Tonight is the vernissage!

Is advancement for women a luxury? What is a quota system good for? Or do women maybe simply lack the will for a top career? Many questions about the position of women in economy will be discussed today at a symposium in the Diplomatic Academy. PaRaDiSo
It’s been 25 years since Ulrike Kaufmann and Erwin Piplits founded the Odeon. Today you can’t imagine Vienna’s scene without this unusual theatre. For its anniversary there will be a special show: the production “PaRaDiSo” by the Serapion ensemble tells of art as the last true paradise in people’s lives through its universal language on stage with dance, music and special effects. From the transformation of rigid matter through inspiration to the re-creation of a world in the present. As always, the ensemble leaves much room for interpretation due to its nonverbal performance – but also for fascination!

Veza Is Alive
Throughout her life, Veza Canetti was overshadowed by her world-famous husband. Exactly 50 years ago, she died in exile in London, and in 1990 people took note of her literature for the first time. This is why the project is called “Late Anniversary" to help us remember this talented Jewish and socialist woman. On Monday a dedication board will be installed on her writing house in the Ferdinand Street, afterwards there will be a guided tour to sites in the area which use different artistic accesses to explore the work of this writer. And today the ESRA will present the anthology “Veza Canetti lebt” which discusses the female role in literature by means of socio-critical texts!

Alice Schwarzer: Travelling in Burma
What is Alice Schwarzer doing in Vienna’s main library? She is presenting her newest project – and no, it’s not polarising feminist literature this time, but a photo series about Burma. During the last 12 years, Alice Schwarzer travelled to this East Asian land several times together with photographer Bettina Flitner. The result is an illustrated book with wonderful photos of people, their culture and religion – combined with surprisingly non-political texts. A selection of these photos can now be seen in the main library. At the vernissage, both women will talk about their travel experiences!

dazu Hofladen
A lot of wood, old factory lamps, simple racks and a small oven in the corner – at Georg and Annemarie’s it’s as comfortable as at the old local grocer’s! Their products on the other hand are really modern: apricot mustard, chilli spreads, basil syrup (delicious!) and above all, honey in all variations you can imagine (with cinnamon, vanilla, nuts or as a pesto) are offered by these two nature lovers in their new shop. Everything made of ingredients from their own farm in the Burgenland. In addition: vegetables from the organic farm Adamah, bread from the bakery Gragger and a nice cheese bar! Great!

Brass Monkey
There is no end to the baking hype, here is yet another small cake shop which has just opened! The Brass Monkey is no girl’s dream in pink however, but rather reminds of a cool bar somewhere at the Mediterranean Sea. Hardly surprising, as the young owner is originally from Greece. And you can see that Athina has studied architecture: a large wooden table, funny lamp constructions and a chic counter made of Spanish tiles. Only cupcakes are offered, but they really taste “home-made”; and for drinking there is only hot chocolate and coffee. You have to try it as frappe!
