Experimental sound art meets live techno from the Viennese club scene – and the Seestadt Aspern becomes a world of sound. Using the motto “Life is good in the new real”, modern sounds can be heard around the lake for three days. Artists and the public are invited to go in search of moments of confidence and unity in stressful times like these. Any Kind of Raves, for example, immerses the Seepark in a cloud of sound that invites you to chill, shake or simply enjoy the scenery, plus there are walking concerts and live sets every evening at Fabrik.

Freihausviertel Festival
There are many street festivals in Vienna, but one surpasses them all: with 20,000 visitors, the Freihausviertel festival is the city's biggest street spectacle. The 3-day party, which finally takes place again after a 2-year pandemic break, stands for cultural and culinary diversity. The pubs and shops around Schleifmühlgasse create an urban feel-good space: with food, drink, shopping and performance. The galleries and stages in the area will be there with cool shows; the Stock Gallery will be celebrating its parting from the location with a party and a farewell fete.

Greek Garden Party
A short holiday in the sunny Mediterranean! The retsina is flowing and the barbecue is sizzling with promise: that's what relaxed Greek flair feels like and that's exactly what the Greek garden party is exuding today at the Pawlatschen in Vienna's Metropol. The duo Marios and Julie provide the right Mediterranean sound on the open-air stage with bouzouki and guitar. They will play traditional rebetiko, the “Greek blues”, but also folk music from Crete and songs by Mikis Theodorakis, the most famous Greek composer of the 20th century. There will also be dancing!

Urban sketching is all about drawing on location. While many artists like to paint landscapes or gardens, urban sketchers all over the world go right into the middle of cities to draw snapshots of urban life. The new trend has long since arrived in Vienna – and according to Ida Räther, anyone can do it. After all, there are classic techniques for depicting the visible world that anyone can learn, no matter how supposedly gifted or untalented they are. Drawing can be full of relish and free of fear, and this can now be tried out at various locations in Vienna.

Exercise at the park
Over the summer, all of Vienna is made fit. The initiative “Bewegt im Park” offers sports courses in all districts – free for everyone and in the fresh air. Qualified instructors lead the daily programmes like Pilates, ball sports and fitness training. Registration is not necessary, you can just show up! There is Qigong on the lawn opposite the Göttlicher Heiland Hospital, where you can work with energy, and on the Wieden you can have fun dancing to TikTok videos every Tuesday. The “After Work Workout” improves strength and endurance. So much choice!

The culinary mastermind behind the popular Seven North and Miznon restaurants is coming to Vienna for a short visit. Eyal Shani, one of the stars of the international food scene, has brought modern Israeli cuisine to Vienna and will be behind the stove himself for two days. Today, lovers of Mediterranean cuisine can experience Eyal live at dinner at the Seven North from 17:00, and on Tuesday the King of Cauliflower will be at the Miznon all day (from 12:00 to 22:00). He probably won't reveal his secret recipe for cauliflower, but maybe the golden-brown ball will taste even more amazing than usual.

Jazz on a Summer's Day
A balmy summer evening in the park of the Belvedere, the sun is slowly setting and the heat is slowly abating. What could be better suited to this mood than jazz? And with a top-class line-up, at that: The (also internationally) acclaimed jazz singer Simone Kopmajer will perform together with Viktor Gernot – the two met during a Christmas duet, by the way. And then you add to this the saxophone sounds of Wolfgang Puschnig and Terry Myers under the big old trees and lots of swing vibes. Simply beautiful. And a little bit romantic.

With these temperatures, the only thing to do is: get on your bike and cycle to the swimming pool. If you don't have a bike, don't fret – every first Wednesday of the month there's a bike flea market at the WUK. Many privately owned bikes are on offer, and Puch lovers might even find one or two vintage treasures. Just test it, ask for advice and negotiate a price. The self-help workshop is open for repairs and spare parts. And for those who have one bike too many: Show up at 15:00 with your ID and, with a bit of luck, collect some money!

If the usual hustle and bustle in the supermarket is too much for you in this heat, you should try the Schottenstift monastery shop on the Freyung. They have Gregorian chorals chiming in the background, and just generally, there is friendly calm instead of a mad rush. It's still perfect for shopping – they exclusively offer products from monasteries all over Europe. In addition to the excellent fruit and vegetables from the Schottenhof, there is venison salami from abbeys in the Waldviertel, pasta from Swabian nunneries, soaps from Italian nuns and delicacies from Greece. Really nice!

Ströck Feierabend
Since the house in which the newly opened Ströck Feierabend resides used to be called “Zu den zwei Rittern”, “Arme Ritter” (French toast) had to be tried during the test meal, of course;-) They are also served here – unusually – as a savoury version with prosciutto and tomatoes. Perfect for a light summer lunch, but they also got summer bowls and burgers and of course a huge breakfast menu. Most of the food is organic and the veggies come from the restaurant's garden in the 22nd district. Add to that the charming décor and the huge bread counter – that's how up to date dining is done.
