"Heya Girls!"
Great cinema under a starry sky! Currently, the projector is turned on in Vienna on roofs (Main Library), on squares (Volxkino) and in front of the city hall at dusk. But the most beautiful open-air cinema in the city is clearly located at the Augartenspitz. In the romantic garden of the Filmarchiv, they will show exceptionally good films this year. From classics like “Casablanca” or Pasolini's “Medea” from 1969 to “Hallelujah”, a wonderful homage to Leonard Cohen. And Kurdwin Ayub's cheeky feature film debut “Sun” will be screened in the presence of the director. It is best combined with a visit to the “Grünstern Heurigen”, where you can treat yourself before and after the cinema in the midst of a magically overgrown piece of city jungle. On the menu is organic regional food only and the creatively put together pallet pavilion is as legendary as the open fireplace. That's how I like summer in the city!
Wishing you an entertaining week,
Your CitySpotterGirl

Lena Hoschek Summer Sale
Now is the time to snatch them up: The latest pieces from Lena Hoschek's spring/summer 2022 collection with the swinging title “The Great Escape” are now available at a discount of 30 percent. The collection was inspired by wanderlust, exotic dreams, jungle fever and summer vibes. This is reflected in floral patterns on wide-swinging skirts as well as on waist-hugging 1950s-style dresses or bold foulards. All of these items are very suitable for adding a feminine touch and a whiff of fashionable extravagance to balmy summer evenings.

 Weiner Albertina
Out of Sight
Many in Vienna know him, even if they are not interested in art. Lawrence Weiner wrote the sentence: “smashed to pieces (in the still of the night)” in huge letters on the façade of the flak tower in Esterhazypark. There was a huge controversy when the artwork was removed after 28 years due to reconstruction. Now, there’s a poetic installation again by the conceptual artist: “Out of Sight” is reminiscent of children's hopping games at first glance, inspiring and inviting to light-footed reflection. To be read and walked on at the Albertina's bastion!

Today's country outing to the roots of our food offers a great opportunity to look beyond one's own nose and into foreign realms. Beekeeper Gernot Gangl invites you to take a look behind the scenes, then you can see how mushrooms are cultivated on coffee brew at Hut und Stiel and finally organic plug-in fish will be grilled at the small city farm. Only with registration!

Freihausviertel Festival
There are many street festivals in Vienna, but one surpasses them all: with 20,000 visitors, the Freihausviertel festival is the city's biggest street spectacle. The 3-day party, which finally takes place again after a 2-year pandemic break, stands for cultural and culinary diversity. The pubs and shops around Schleifmühlgasse create an urban feel-good space: with food, drink, shopping and performance. The galleries and stages in the area will be there with cool shows; the Stock Gallery will be celebrating its parting from the location with a party and a farewell fete.

Greek Garden Party
A short holiday in the sunny Mediterranean! The retsina is flowing and the barbecue is sizzling with promise: that's what relaxed Greek flair feels like and that's exactly what the Greek garden party is exuding today at the Pawlatschen in Vienna's Metropol. The duo Marios and Julie provide the right Mediterranean sound on the open-air stage with bouzouki and guitar. They will play traditional rebetiko, the “Greek blues”, but also folk music from Crete and songs by Mikis Theodorakis, the most famous Greek composer of the 20th century. There will also be dancing!

Tom Jones
He is a living legend and he is no longer young either. After all, the beginning of his career coincides with the first sounds of modern pop music. But Tom Jones is not down and out, always trying new things and now, at the age of 81, he presents his current musical adventure “Surrounded By Time”. He interprets songs with personal meaning in a completely new way. Accompanied by videos that show the highs and lows of the past 70 years of cultural and social history, the album reflects an extraordinary career – and features some great music.

Drawing summery Vienna
Urban sketching is all about drawing on location. While many artists like to paint landscapes or gardens, urban sketchers all over the world go right into the middle of cities to draw snapshots of urban life. The new trend has long since arrived in Vienna – and according to Ida Räther, anyone can do it. After all, there are classic techniques for depicting the visible world that anyone can learn, no matter how supposedly gifted or untalented they are. Drawing can be full of relish and free of fear, and this can now be tried out at various locations in Vienna.

Eyal Shani cooks
The culinary mastermind behind the popular Seven North and Miznon restaurants is coming to Vienna for a short visit. Eyal Shani, one of the stars of the international food scene, has brought modern Israeli cuisine to Vienna and will be behind the stove himself for two days. Today, lovers of Mediterranean cuisine can experience Eyal live at dinner at the Seven North from 17:00, and on Tuesday the King of Cauliflower will be at the Miznon all day (from 12:00 to 22:00). He probably won't reveal his secret recipe for cauliflower, but maybe the golden-brown ball will taste even more amazing than usual.

The Odyssey
That’s one way to escape from the heat: to cool down in the underworld – including a cold drink and an underground cool cave climate thanks to the new ventilation system. Before the summer break, the Schauspielhaus is showing the idiosyncratic Odyssey version by the directing team Jakob Engel & Jan Philipp Stange. The visually impressive and dense production was created during the lockdown and is strongly inspired by that time. A Europe full of couch potatoes sits around befuddled and frightened in the den. Instead of wandering through the Aegean, life becomes a lockdown odyssey. A free drink comes with your ticket!

Jazz on a Summer's Day
A balmy summer evening in the park of the Belvedere, the sun is slowly setting and the heat is slowly abating. What could be better suited to this mood than jazz? And with a top-class line-up, at that: The (also internationally) acclaimed jazz singer Simone Kopmajer will perform together with Viktor Gernot – the two met during a Christmas duet, by the way. And then you add to this the saxophone sounds of Wolfgang Puschnig and Terry Myers under the big old trees and lots of swing vibes. Simply beautiful. And a little bit romantic.

Bicycle flea market at WUK
With these temperatures, the only thing to do is: get on your bike and cycle to the swimming pool. If you don't have a bike, don't fret – every first Wednesday of the month there's a bike flea market at the WUK. Many privately owned bikes are on offer, and Puch lovers might even find one or two vintage treasures. Just test it, ask for advice and negotiate a price. The self-help workshop is open for repairs and spare parts. And for those who have one bike too many: Show up at 15:00 with your ID and, with a bit of luck, collect some money!

Yoga in the secret garden
The women's monastery “die elisabethinen” is located right next to Wien Mitte – and in summer they make their secret garden available for yoga. “Stadtyogini” Patricia Pöchhacker and Claudia Gnant from the AyurVienna Centre want to introduce yoga to as many people as possible and therefore offer their classes in the garden on a donation basis. Every Wednesday from July to the end of September, there is “inclusive yoga”: one of the two classes takes place sitting on benches, so that elderly or chronically ill people can also participate. In addition, gender-neutral language is used.

Meeting point: reception area die elisabethinen, Landstraßer Hauptstraße 4/12, 1030 Vienna. Wed 16:00 + 17:15. Voluntary donation. Web

Klosterladen at the Schottenstift
If the usual hustle and bustle in the supermarket is too much for you in this heat, you should try the Schottenstift monastery shop on the Freyung. They have Gregorian chorals chiming in the background, and just generally, there is friendly calm instead of a mad rush. It's still perfect for shopping – they exclusively offer products from monasteries all over Europe. In addition to the excellent fruit and vegetables from the Schottenhof, there is venison salami from abbeys in the Waldviertel, pasta from Swabian nunneries, soaps from Italian nuns and delicacies from Greece. Really nice!

Ströck Feierabend
Since the house in which the newly opened Ströck Feierabend resides used to be called “Zu den zwei Rittern”, “Arme Ritter” (French toast) had to be tried during the test meal, of course;-) They are also served here – unusually – as a savoury version with prosciutto and tomatoes. Perfect for a light summer lunch, but they also got summer bowls and burgers and of course a huge breakfast menu. Most of the food is organic and the veggies come from the restaurant's garden in the 22nd district. Add to that the charming décor and the huge bread counter – that's how up to date dining is done.
