"Heya Girls!"
A Spanish island, Austrian politicians, the niece of a Russian oligarch... Actually, that absurd summer's tale was not so long ago. "You have to laugh about Ibiza, but you can't": starting next Saturday, Elfriede Jelinek will once again show us how madness is reproduced in societies. In her Ibiza play "Schwarzwasser" she brings together the trivial and ridiculous of daily politics with ancient dramas. This time she refers to Euripide's "The Bacchae", in which people fall into madness in droves. Between tragedy and the grotesque, the Nobel Prize winner designs forms of resistance. And she shows how right-wing populist positions – like a virus – spread at breakneck speed and infect all areas of life. In the long term, they poison the climate, both socially and ecologically. The world premiere will take place at the Akademietheater, Caroline Peters and Martin Wuttke are playing!

Wishing you an enlightening week,

Oldies but goldies! Beautiful highlights from past seasons are currently wandering over the counter at the Combinat. And this at incredibly low prices: The selected pieces by designers such as Pitour, Artista, Iam You, Plural or ni-ly are available from 50 euros! As a last chance, parts of the current winter collections are also radically reduced again! Von allen Seiten schön
Vienna at the turn of the century: Not only painting, but also the arts and crafts experienced a great climax. The desire to unite art and life culminated in 1903 in the founding of the Wiener Werkstätte by Kolo Moser, Josef Hoffmann and the financier Fritz Waerndorfer. The artists' aim was to make everyday life both functional and attractive. During the guided tour at the Leopold Museum this evening, furniture will be on display as well as beautiful glasses and Josef Hoffmann's bedroom for the daughter of the textile industrialist Max Biach.

 Moritz Schell
Engel der Dämmerung. Marlene Dietrich
World star and style icon Marlene Dietrich returns to the Kammerspiele. There she could actually be seen in 1928 in the flesh, still unknown and largely unnoticed. During a musical theatre evening, the eventful life of the German artist, who died in 1992, is re-enacted and sung about from today: her sudden fame through the film "The Blue Angel" in 1930, her Hollywood career, her commitment to women's rights and against Hitler's Germany. The diva will be embodied by the celebrated singer-actress Sona MacDonald.

Sonja Pikarts Metamorphosen
When Sonja Pikart awoke from restless dreams one morning, she found herself transformed into a post-modern heterosexual, Celtic-Central European, neo-positivist-atheist, progressive-liberal new wave punk woman. Since then she has been searching – for identity clichés. The Viennese by choice ponders in crazy stories about Tibetan kettles, rabid truffle pigs and girlfriends who disappear behind the extractor hood. The second programme of the young cabaret artist provides deep insights into human pigeonhole thinking with a high density of punch lines ;-)

Suppe.rer Broth
Right on trend! In the new pop-up Suppe.rer real bone broth is served – and it’s quite something! The artist trio Laia, Thomas and Alexandra wanted to cook what nobody else in Vienna makes: broth. For 18 hours they cook beef and chicken bones here from the organic farm Schober, in addition to that, they serve vegetable toppings, soba noodles or natto (fermented soybeans). Vegetarian soups, kombucha and homemade Gugelhupf are also offered in the tiny shop with only 2 tables. The best way to get the soup is to take it away – thus outsmarting the flu.

Care for a table dance at the walnut table? The Vienna city branch of Team7, the well-known natural wood manufacturer from the Innkreis, is hosting a sale.  The Wyld Thing
The Wyld Thing
The soft opening phase is over, today the brand-new yoga loft "Wyld Thing" will open. Besides yoga, modern spirituality and community are also pretty big here. Vinyasa is as much a part of the programme as meditation or new moon wishing – it’s all about the right balance of body, mind and soul. On today's open day you can try out several offers free of charge – and get a taste of soul-caressing techniques such as Sound Healing or Restorative Yoga. And then things might get pretty wyld in the Yoga Play class, when the inner children will be let out ;-)

Lotte – Tour zum Glück
From the plastic workshop at the WUK, you can walk straight on to the foyer today. After Lotte's debut album "Querfeldein" we waited a long time for “Auf das, was da noch kommt”. The 23-year-old Ravensburg native has written pop/rock songs all around the search for "happiness" for her second album. The songs are less melancholic but lighter and more optimistic than 2 years ago. Good for Lotte, who packs her innermost being into lyrics instead of diaries, makes fine songs out of them and brings them on stage with her sometimes slightly fragile voice. Listen in here.

 Precious Plastic Global
Open Day: Plastic Recycling
How can plastic go from problem to solution? The laboratory Precious Plastic Vienna is looking for answers to this question. The initiative from the Netherlands sees the demonised material as a great resource rather than as waste. After all, plastic is incredibly durable, robust and therefore quite valuable. But hardly anyone knows what to do with it. Today, the open workshop door is used for sorting and cleaning, and the material is crushed, pressed and cast with specially designed machines. In addition, there is a lot of information on how to use the disposable material and cool gadgets.

The Jewish Cemetery Währing
For many people, this remains one of Vienna’s unknown gems: the Jewish Cemetery in Währing. For many years, it was abandoned and left to decay but by now, fortunately, politicians have finally managed to come to a financial agreement on the question of restoration. Today people have the rare opportunity to get to know the cemetery under expert guidance. Not once but twice (at 11:00 and 13:00) you will be guided through the cultural monument with its long and exciting history. Please put on sturdy shoes and make sure to register.

Flashdance
What a feeling! The stage adaptation of the iconic film from 1983 is back in town. Equipped with contemporary dance sequences and technical refinements, the show not only picks up 1980s fans but will also manage to bring younger musical lovers into the hall. And will probably bring tears to their eyes, too. Working-class girl Alex wants to take the leap from dodgy bars to the classic dance stage. The story about the ideals of youth and the stubborn clinging to a dream is as heartbreaking as ever. Catchy tunes will also be guaranteed. With Gloria and Hallelujah!

 Lennart Nilsson
Lennart Nilsson: The Beginning
It must be stardust in which these little miracles float! Even today, the pictures of life before birth, created in 1965, fascinate with their astonishing wealth of detail and their depiction of human fragility. The Swede Lennart Nilsson made the mystery of the growing child in the womb visible for the first time – and created a milestone in photography. Since then his pictures have shaped our imagination. The exhibition shows more than 100 works by the photojournalist, who, by the way, was also the first to take a picture of testosterone – which can also be seen. Today is vernissage!

Meditation at Museum: Beauty of Silence
Oohmm. That’s quite the location to find peace! As of now, meditation will take place in the Upper Belvedere. The baroque rooms with the world-famous art collection are open every second Tuesday evening only for those interested. A guided meditation helps to achieve a state of deep relaxation and peace through conscious breathing and mindfulness. Afterwards, you are allowed to roam the halls until 22:00 and let the works of art – yes, even Klimt's Kiss – take effect in silence. Afterwards, there’s tea and refreshments. So a museum can be this, too: giving yourself and your art time.

Swapping Room at MyPlace
You can now exchange items at a place where things are usually stored! The MyPlace selfstorage in Rudolfsheim is converting one of its units into a swapping room for four weeks. The motto is exchanging instead of throwing away, the rules are easily explained: everyone can swap up to five items, the things that are brought must be in good condition and in working order. Foodstuff, medicines, or underwear must not be swapped, nor anything that is not allowed to be stored in the SelfStorage. In short: the articles of exchange should not go against common sense ;-)

Jump at Karlsplatz
How exactly does a break dancer join the Cirque du Soleil and eventually have her own dance company? With courage. Courage that you also need for jumping. Silke Grabinger, Upper Austrian choreographer, is fascinated by jumps, by the moment of letting go and the flight. Photographer Meinrad Hofer has "frozen" her movements in Iceland's volcanic landscape. The results are on display until 15 February. Before that, the dancer, who loves to perform in public places, takes off once again – today she will jump in one of Vienna's most frequently used underground stations.

Candy Shop Vienna
Health freaks better squeeze their eyes shut now. For a lot of sugar is involved here when childhood dreams finally come true! Not only does the Candy Shop look very colourful, everything here has somehow turned out very big – the gummy bears are more like full-grown bears, chewing gums are big as tennis balls and the strawberry marshmallows live up to their name of huge marshmallows. Scattered on wooden barrels you can find a myriad of sweets, of course also "classic" things like chocolate hazelnuts. Conveniently, there’s self-service, everything costs the same: 100g for 3.50 €.

Lucy Bar im Belvedere 21
As is well known, the entrance of the 21er Haus, today called Belvedere 21, resembles a station concourse in terms of size and atmosphere. It takes a great interior designer to establish a café here that you would voluntarily go to. Architect Gregor Eichinger has managed it. With dark blue velvet chairs (they’re actually really hip) and oversized floor lamps, he has given Lucy an almost cuddly metropolitan feeling. The menu is not very big (mainly burgers, sandwiches, salads), but everything tastes pretty good. And sitting in the antechamber of art is really quite cool ;-)
