"Heya Girls!"
Friends in New York have been shopping like this for a long time, and now the successful concept has also arrived here: Vienna's first fair community-owned supermarket is about to open! Under the name MILA, a grocery shop is being created that stands for fair working conditions, regionality, environmental protection and animal welfare. How does it work? The members themselves decide on the assortment! And only members are allowed to shop in the supermarket. So: they own together, shape together and work together. While there are already huge markets with thousands of members in New York, things are starting off small in Vienna. A mini-market will soon open in Ottakring, and as soon as a large location is found, the supermarket will follow. A crowdfunding campaign is currently underway to finance the basic equipment. Until 23 March, everyone who enjoys good food and wants to treat the environment with respect can buy many thank-you gifts – from a cheese subscription to a home barista course. Great project!

Wishing you a delightful week,
Your CitySpotterGirl

Serious Fun. Architecture and Games
They are made of wood, metal or cardboard, others are played on computers or consoles: The new exhibition at the Architekturzentrum shows architectural games from today. And it invites you to marvel and play! You can virtually participate in the London real estate market, take entire city tours through computer games, experience doll's houses as eerie playlets or build new city districts with others. In any case, the exhibits playfully encourage visitors to experience architecture interactively. Because as an expressive form of popular culture, games convey how we perceive our built environment. Cool!

Burlesque, chanson, comedy, lip sync, dance – and all in drag! The drag queens Metamorkid and Kleinkunst-prinzessin Grazia Patricia invite you to a hilarious and entertaining revue at the Vindobona theatre. Every month, the two beauties invite some other drag artists to join them on stage in order to let off crazy-colourful steam together ;-) During the entertainment show, you will also be able to eat and drink here: At the varieté, you don't sit in rows like in the theatre but at small tables – and have a good laugh while enjoying delicacies like smoked salmon tartare, boeuf stroganoff and egg liqueur mousse.

How does climate change affect gender equality? What does chocolate have to do with child labour? And why do French women farmers earn only 350 euros a month? Food is a basic need. At this year's Right to Food Film Days, four films will be shown that deal with current challenges in the agricultural economy – and expose structural problems that affect us all. The first film today comes from Malawi: In “The Ants and the Grasshopper”, activist Anita Citaya travels to the USA to fight the causes of climate change. Important!

The shu! used to be a cool shoe shop in Neubaugasse. They had unique shoes from Italian and international brands such as Vic Matié, Pantanetti, Officine Creative, Enrico Antinori, Flip Flop, Ernesto Dolani, Open Closed, Moma and Shoto. Unfortunately, the shop closed its doors in May last year. Some of the shoes have remained ownerless and are now looking for a new home at the pop-up in the former Mondscheinstüberl! Until 23 March, the special sneakers, sandals, ankle boots & co. will be on sale at a discount of 70 percent. Merci beaucoup!

Young Plant Market
Spring is not only approaching as a calendar date, the temperatures are also slowly climbing up to acceptable heights. The perfect time to fill your balcony boxes and flower beds with young plants! The City Farm in Augarten pays homage to the start of the gardening season with a young plant market. Today and tomorrow, you can buy robust young veggies able to survive a cold night outdoors: chard, broccoli, kohlrabi, fennel, spinach, peas, herbs and various salads. In an afternoon seminar, you also learn about sowing aids, propagators and mini-greenhouses in practice.

If you've been missing dance nights at the B72, you will get your money's worth today: Three bands are celebrating their new albums with a big release party! The Lower Austrian duo Jolphin kick things off with very danceable indie rock. Old Mrs Bates, also a duo, play banging rock and distorted guitar and finally the five post-punkers from Jeanny sing in German about the great difficulties of life. All three bands have recently recorded new songs and are finally getting around to performing them in front of an audience! Here's to a wild night ;-)

Ikebana meets Paper
Ikebana is the Japanese art of flower arrangement. In this 2-day workshop, the artful flower creations literally meet paper! You’ll make pots and containers from high-quality paper, which can then be used to house and compliment your self-made Ikebana arrangement. Ikebana is a science in itself: the cut and arrangement of the flowers are subject to strict rules. Today's workshop will be held by Ilse Neumayer, who was trained as an Ikebana teacher according to the curriculum of the Sogetsu School, a famous Ikebana school in Tokyo!

We stand with Ukraine
There’s support for Ukraine everywhere right now (see also on the web portal). This Saturday it's the turn of the stars of the Austro-Pop scene. The all-day benefit concert intends to appeal to the widest possible audience, with the proceeds going directly to Volkshilfe and Nachbar in Not. Obstbahn-Kurti, Seiler & Speer, Wanda but also Bilderbuch, Yung Hurn and Mavi Phoenix perform at the Ernst Happel Stadium. President Van der Bellen will also speak. The ticket price of 19.91 euros is no coincidence: Ukraine became an independent country in 1991.

Deko-Shop A. Grabner
Joyful news: Some businesses manage to come back stronger from the pandemic. This decoration shop, for example, which has been family-run for 60 years, has been diligently rebuilt and opens today in new splendour. Pretty home accessories, nice souvenirs and greeting cards, tasteful silk flowers and artificial green plants, as well as a large selection of handicraft and artists' supplies are available in the newly renovated shop. In addition, you can have your photos, pictures and art prints professionally framed here. The fact that some things work out well sometimes is celebrated today with a glass of champagne at the opening!

Textile Art Days
Fancy a little Sunday outing? In the armoury of Perchtoldsdorf Castle, it’s all about textiles this weekend: 14 artists will exhibit their carefully designed and handmade goods there. Initiator Gerda Kohlmayr makes felt jewellery with objects found in nature and clothes from Austrian linen. But you can also see and purchase necklaces, rings and bracelets with glass beads by Katharina Eder, woven scarves, carpets, woollen blankets and upholstery by Edda Ruckenbauer-Schaupp or the handmade hats by Waltraud Jungwirth. Neat!

Northwest Passage
The Northwest Passage is actually a sea route through the northern polar seas. And the musicians of the ensemble of the same name also move somewhere between Europe and America: they play Scandinavian-European folk mixed with American bluegrass. Two violins, two guitars, a double bass, a cello and Lena Kuchling's powerful voice search for cross-connections between styles that originated separately and yet are somehow connected. Today you’ll hear adaptations of traditional songs and melodious original compositions.

Flashmob for World Down Syndrome Day
Today is World Down Syndrome Day! In people with trisomy 21, the 21st chromosome is present three times instead of twice. This can lead to motor and mental limitations. People with disabilities are often excluded from cultural life – the association “Ich bin O.K.” consciously works to change that! The dance company of the association consists of more than 100 people with and without disabilities – and they are performing a flash mob today at Stephansplatz. The aim is to draw attention to the often still difficult situation of people with Down's syndrome.

Beautiful & Fit: Spring Detox
Spring is always a time for a fresh start. Starting today, you will be professionally supported in this process: On the one hand, with a fixed meal plan from TCM nutritionist Nina Mandl including a shopping list for each day. On the other hand, with gentle yoga units, breathing exercises and meditations led by yoga teacher Angelina Fleischmann. And there's also constant exchange with the other detoxers! All of this is intended to support the liver, the number one detoxification organ, but also to detoxify mentally – and if a few kilos come off in the process, all the better ;-)

Forest & Mushrooms – magical network
In the Vienna Woods, the first mushrooms are already sprouting from the ground still covered with autumn leaves. Today, forest mushroom expert Heinz Mutzek explains why mushrooms have been considered a superfood for hundreds of years. Besides their culinary use – probably the most important for amateur mushroom pickers – mushrooms are also used in naturopathy as aids to strengthen the immune system and lower blood pressure. Above all, however, the universe of mushrooms is a fascinating world, a gigantic underground network that connects all living things. Today you can find out how this works in the live stream.

 Jamie Cullum
Jamie Cullum
The British retro jazz musician Jamie Cullum achieves something amazing: he combines easily digestible pop music with jazz. With his current album “Taller”, the musician makes his first guest appearance at the Konzerthaus. Cullum himself has been playing the piano and singing since early childhood. He has been making music professionally for over 20 years, and on this year's tour he will be accompanied by a 7-piece band. He has never managed the balancing act between jazz and pop so well: “It's like trying to squeeze a square object into a round hole.” And Jamie Cullum obviously has a very special talent for this!

Textile House
Attention: There's a new vintage shop in town! And it's one that really packs a punch: Textile House stocks Gucci sandals and Louis Vuitton bags as well as retro no-name blouses and the obligatory mountains of second-hand jeans. Textile House was originally a sorting company for old clothes, the beautiful second-hand fashion just a waste product of the recycling process. There are now 170 shops, mainly in our eastern neighbouring countries. And recently in Vienna, where three spacious rooms full of used goods allow lovers of second-hand fashion to browse for a long time.

And yet another smart hotel has opened. This time directly behind the MuseumsQuartier, where it is easily recognisable with its facade completely greened with plants. Inside, the jungle-like setup continues, giving the Cafe Brasserie, located in the centre of the hotel, a casual and playful ambience. It's a great place to have breakfast, hang out and dine on several levels. In the evening, restaurant chef Parvin and her team of women serve vegetable-heavy cuisine, and for breakfast they serve some unusual things – like carrot tartare, dashi egg and breakfast cocktails.
