"Heya Girls!"
Even just the name makes you curious. “Pots und Blitz” is what the design market for handmade ceramics calls itself and will rock MuseumsQuartier on the weekend. For three days, 50 international artists and ceramists show all that you can do with clay. They offer everyday items and utilitarian objects, design products and art objects, figurines, sculptures and tableware, all made exclusively by the artists themselves. Meaning no mainstream but a refreshing counter show to conventional pottery. Joining in is the renowned, Berlin-based Japanese ceramic artist Yasuhiro Cuze who shows his pure-white porcelain pots. Artist Helene Kirchmair creatively plays with function, surface and form. mano design brings its new tableware series Twotone. And particularly funny are Margit Russnig’s flying pigs (photo). There are also flying fish and other creatures, by the way ;-)

Wishing you a well-formed week

 Max Brown Hotel
Max Brown Hotel: new cinema & festival
There are already 2 good reasons to go to the Max Brown 7th District: you’re in need of a cool room. Or you have a yen for a veggie Israeli treat at the Seven North (CitySpotterGirl has raved about it). And starting now, the place also tempts you with its own cinema hall!!! The Max Brown Theatre has a cosy number of 28 seats, vintage chairs, a chandelier, golden stucco – all in the Art Deco style. It opens with a free 4-day film festival and strong women’s films. Like the teen-love-drama “Seventeen” made in Austria or the artists’ documentary “Sie ist der andere Blick”. First come, first served!

Film Cult Tour
Vienna is not Hollywood – as if! The truth is, many movies were filmed here. As early as 1922, the main star of the film “Sodom und Gomorrha”, Lucy Doraine, narrowly escaped death in Oberlaa. For “Scorpio”, Alain Delon dared to come to what was then Europe’s biggest construction site near Secession, and Tom Cruise roped down from the opera in “Mission Impossible V”. And the Hofburg was even re-built into Versailles for the “Three Musketeers”. Film expert Florian Brandt gives a two-hour tour of the most iconic film-hotspots in Vienna. Funny and exciting!

A stage, a chair, a cello and Marie Spaemann. That’s all you need to experience a true goosebumps-concert. Today the successful cello player and singer-songwriter is in Vienna. She has brought her brand-new album “Gap”, even though she will shoot the songs live through the ether at today’s release concert ;) They move somewhere between carefree pop, bubbly jazz and serious classic. After all, the virtuoso gives challenging, sophisticated concerts as well, for example at Wiener Konzerthaus. There is a music sample here, but definitely go to the concert!

Matinee of Austrian Women’s Shelters
Now, the topic of violence against women doesn’t necessarily make you think of the Wiener Oper. And yet, the very same opens its doors this morning for the “hellwach Matinee” of the Österreichische Frauenhäuser. The association is supported by numerous artists and celebs who provide entertainment with readings, talks and singing. And who, at the same time, call attention to the enormous scope of physical and sexual violence against women. In Austria alone, 1 in 5 women are affected – 62 million women in all of Europe! So please: buy a ticket, support a good cause!

Decorative crafting clutter – as if! Textile visionaries Sawatou Mouratidou and Barbara Füreder have already proven in 2018 that textile art is and can be much more. Their newest art craft fusion exhibition with the motto “Wir WOLLen Papier” once again provides a stage for more than 20 international colleagues with knitted puns, female stitching power and political wooly thinking. There are for example the “Zeitungsente” by Getrud Brauner-Baumgartner as well as the anti-daily-stress work “Fabula Nova” by Minnamarina Tammi from Finland. Today is the vernissage!

Kaffeehaus Flea Market
This could be a good opportunity to snatch some original stuff and fill up your tableware stock! Because for the Wiener Kaffeehaus flea market the big cafes of the city have cleared out their cupboards, storages, and cellars and carried it all over to the long-standing coffee roastery Julius Meinl. There you can hunt for some nice bargains until the afternoon since the offered goods – tableware, discarded chairs, old coffee machines – are sold at pleasantly low prices. Joining in are, among others, Café Landtmann, the Hummel and also Demmers Teehaus.

Three little (Austrian) words that caused a big international scandal in May of this year. Today, the 2 heroes who contributed significantly to the uncovering of the Ibiza affair are in Vienna: Bastian Obermayer and Frederik Obermaier. Both senior editors at the Süddeutsche Zeitung. Both members of the International Consortium of Investigative Journalism. And both, according to HCS, “the biggest whores on the planet”. Their extensive book on the scandal is presented twice today. Designplatzl 2.0
Exactly one year ago, „Lieblingsrock”-designer Silke Solly initiated the first Designplatzl. Now the hip market enters its second round and – goes to a new address, namely the cool F23 in Liesing with its cosy inner courtyard. She stayed true to the concept, though: you can snatch trendy and chic stuff by young labels from all areas of fashion and art. Super-pretty are for instance: unique Gyotaku print items by “Releaf”, bright-pink 3D-print creoles by “My Magpie” or racy drawstring bags by Vivibag. Leonard-Cohen-Tribute
CitySpotterGirl has always been in love with the folk-chanson swashbuckler Leonard Cohen. Or rather with his music. More than once, she made love to the song classic “Dance Me to the End Of Love”, and found herself a bit more with the album “Songs Of Love And Hate”. And with the last masterpiece of the singer who died in 2016 – “You Want It Darker” – she realised how important it is to live in the moment. The TAG now dedicated a tribute night to the exceptional musician today. The live music comes from Steve Gander & band, Nino aus Wien entertains with anecdotes.

Deck Chair Sale
In my childhood in the country, summer was irretrievably gone when the autumn crocuses were blooming and the mist hung around the fields for days on end. In the city, it’s different. There the final takeover of autumn is demonstrated by the closing of the beach bars. Like the Strandbar Herrmann near Urania. But as a goodbye, the Strandbar will bestow the perfect bargain upon us: tons of deck chairs will be sold for just 7 euros per piece! And in order to add some style to the whole affair, DJ The Big Kaminski will accentuate it by playing some old songs.

Literary Speed Dating
For all those who missed it last winter: Bookship #2! Because where else do more romantic love stories start than in a beautiful bookshop? That’s apparently what the always creative bookseller Petra Hartlieb thought, too, and invented Vienna’s first book-dating. The concept: 10 women, 10 men and 20 favourite books. Whether a great love or a life-long friendship comes out of it, nothing is impossible here – just like in the world of books. You have 7 minutes per person and to break the ice quickly everybody will bring their favourite book ;-)

Everything is allowed in art. Like making itself at home at a mangy and therefore kind of cool 90s place. And that’s why this year’s Parallel Vienna takes place at the abandoned former headquarters of Bank Austria, which provides the perfect frame with its sterile walls, naked pipes and escalators. 30 galleries, 30 solo artists and 50 off spaces show works by the known and soon-to-be-known ;-) Joining in for the first time: the gallery WOP with Karolina Jablonska’s impressive paper paintings “No Man Is Big Enough for My Arms”. Driftwood Workshop
Summer is definitely NOT over! And in order for that to stay true for a long time still, ladies had best gather upall their seashells, pictures and souvenirs from their last holiday now. Under the instruction of creative workshop operator Agnes Boros, these items can be turned into lasting memorabilia and true driftwood masterpieces during a three-hour-long workshop. If you don’t have any beach treasures yourself, you can help yourself to some from the treasure trove on site. The material is included, previous knowledge is not required. Now that’s how you capture summer!

Motel a Miio
Oh my, that shop is crammed! Although shop is not entirely correct – with its 100 sqm the ceramics paradise from Portugal looks more like an art studio: white walls, wooden flooring, concrete, the colourful vases, plates, carafes & co like the main actors in the thick of it. The design of the tableware is decorative and cheerful, all items are produced and painted by hand at small manufactories in Portugal. And the selection of the collection is huge! From the series Alachofra with big bang blobs to the pastel Lua plates. And since the first shop in Austria only just opened, there is a discount of 30 percent until the end of September!
