"Heya Girls!"
C’est incroyable! Two XXL-truckloads of Parisian flair have just arrived in Vienna. We’re talking about the original furnishings from the legendary hotel Ritz. Yes exactly, the very Grand Hotel shrouded in myths and legends, where Hemingway enjoyed his drinks, Fitzgerald whipped out his pen, Coco Chanel lived in a suite for many years and where, in the more recent past, monarchs and queens (like Lady Di) and other world-famous stars resided! The hotel was renovated for four years, then re-opened in 2016 and now – from 17 to 21 April – 10,000 veteran Ritz-objects are going under the hammer at a huge auction in Paris. You won’t believe all the stuff that can be purchased: from a noble dog’s toilet to half a ship, which served as decoration for seafood in the restaurant. But before that, many of the iconic pieces are being exhibited in Munich, Milan, and Vienna. From Friday, the auction house Artcurial in the 1st district is being transformed into a 200 sqm “Ritz Paris”-paradise. There’s everything from the Hemingway bar to the conservatory with Oriental carpets and Louis XVI-canapé! Go there! Be amazed! Join the bidding!

Wishing you an elegant week,
Your CitySpotterGirl

 Keith Haring
Keith Haring: The Alphabet
He would have celebrated his sixtieth birthday this year: the American street-, pop art-, and exceptional artist Keith Haring! He started with comics, subway drawings, and the eye-catching beautification of house facades with graffiti before he went down into younger art history in the 1980s with museum-fit paper- and vinyl tarp paintings. His style is unmistakable: bold, symbolic, and powerful. At the centre of his power-signs-picture-language: feelings and emotions, social justice, world happenings, man and woman. Today is the opening of the huge show at Albertina with free entry!

Launch & Pop Up Tassel Tales
Congrats! The label Tassel Tales, founded in 2017 by three young and ambitious natives of Salzburg, is officially on the market. This joyful occasion is reason enough for a 3-day celebration and presentation in Vienna! Including: the newest ready-to-wear pieces and yoga clothes, like beautifully printed silk dresses, artfully upcycled jeans-carpet-jackets, and summerly bast bags. But much more important than the style is the background of the fair trade-eco-label. They produce together with women’s collectives in Morocco and India. Today is launch party, the pop-up sale starts tomorrow.

Randi Tytingvåg
Randi who? No, until now, CitySpotterGirl had never heard of the charming singer with the unspeakably beautiful voice (and last name), either. But after tonight’s concert at the latest, this is definitely going to change. The Norwegian’s lovely songs sound calming and remind you of folklore, jazz, and country – which could be due to the use of banjo, cavaquinho, and guitar. And Randi herself with her magical voice and her charisma is a real highlight, anyway. You can find a sample of her music here, and the whole live package tonight. Amazing Norway sound!

markta on site
A new farmer’s market in Vienna that actually comes from the internet: the online platform markta allows you to order directly from local producers, from vintners to beekeepers. But, starting today, the digital market is making it to the real world every first and third Friday. Each time, two small producers will present their culinary highlights at Ottakringer Brewery. First guest today is Josef Moßhammer’s butchery from Graz with some tasty stew. Afterwards, swoop over to second guest Helga for a healthy-green, algae-based drink or some creative Ottakringer beer.

The Red Tent
A wonderful initiative that was first created in California: there should be a red tent for women in every village. As a place where all women meet, from young girls to old sages, to talk about menstruation and taboos and to offer support to one another. Ingrid Neuscheller has taken up this idea and will put up a red tent in Vienna this weekend. Tonight, women can recharge their female batteries there and celebrate their cyclic nature in a safe environment while in dialogue with each other. And for some appropriate reading material, you can buy CitySpotterGirl’s brand-new book “Das Buch der Tage” there!

 Beate Wagner
Dschungelgrün
“The thicket is full of spirits”, thought painter Beate Wagner and promptly chose it as the motto of her series of works. The latter will take you into African and Asian jungle, picture- and mood-wise, where’s it’s all wild, colourful, exotic, and inspiring! But chaos and thicket have also snuck into the acryl paintings in a metaphorical sense since the artist is looking for orientation and self-discovery within the general global chaos. In any case, the location for the exhibition at Palm House Schönbrunn is perfect. Just come, dive in, and clear the thicket in your head!

Danish Easter Market
Small but mighty, and most of all „hyggelig“, that’s how the Danish Easter Market presents itself at the Cultural Forum DanAustria. They may have just a couple tables inviting you to celebrate “Påske”, but these few are bending with all the pretty Dansk design, self-made Easter decorations, and traditional delicacies. In the in-house fireplace room, they serve Danish smørrebrød with salmon and egg, or, for the sweet teeth, fine gala day cakes and pastries. Just take a seat and maybe, following tradition, rhyme an Easter fool’s letter for friends and family. Creative gifts!

Sewing espadrilles
„Handicraft is yoga with hands”, says Isabelle Weigand – how true! At her atelier in the 2nd district, the creativity coach regularly hosts meetings during which there’s some tinkering around under her guidance in a comfy living room atmosphere. Today it’s “Monday sewing” and they’re making espadrilles. Sounds much more complicated than it actually is! And if you’re afraid of the sewing machine, you can just take leather instead of fabric because it will be attached manually to the sole. By the way, there will also be food: something vegetarian from her own kitchen. Very nice!

Ewig schön. 300 years of Viennese porcelain
This could be a question on “Millionaire”: Who founded the first Viennese porcelain manufactory in 1718? It was a gentleman with the melodious name of Claudius Innocentius du Paquier. Besides countless new acquisitions of Augarten Collection, the current anniversary exhibition opening today at Augarten Manufactory will also show valuable items on loan from private collections. From surprising wonder-works from Baroque and humorous objects from Rococo to the simplicity of Biedermeier and the colourfulness of the 50s and beyond. Today’s vernissage!

Dan Sheron from Balto – solo
Cruising through America in the early 1970s with the window open, just waking up disillusioned from the “Summer of Love”. That’s what the Rock’n’ Roll from the well-known indie rock group Balto from Portland/Oregon sounds like. Songwriter Dan Sheron mixes powerful texts with rock and folk into an original, ear-friendly “Psychedelic Americana”. Right now, the singer and multi-instrumentalist of the group is touring solo with his new album “Strangers” and create some cool American retro mood with his swaggering style at Haus der Musik. Laughter Yoga on World Happiness Day
Now, Christoph Schnedlitz and Jan Hruby are actually psychologists first and IT experts second. But that didn’t keep them from inventing a happiness-App (hiMoment) that reminds you of the beautiful moments in your life and makes you smile :-) On the occasion of World Happiness Day, however, this evening is mostly about spreading happiness off-line. At 19:45, a short happiness-impulse lecture puts you into the mood for the entertaining-casual get-together. At 20:15, it’s off to another round of giggles and fooling around during laughter yoga. And afterwards: music and party!

Gerda Lerner
Gosh, I really would have loved to meet this woman: the revolutionary feminist and historian Gerda Lerner. She was born 1920 as Gerda Hedwig Kronstein in Vienna and emigrated to the USA because of the Nazis, where she advocated for women’s rights until her death in 2013. She basically founded the female historiography with her book “The Creation of Patriarchy”. If you haven’t read this “bible”, you should catch up – it will simply knock your socks off with its cleverness and topical relevance! Today, Renata Keller’s documentary film about Lerner is shown, with a talk after!

First Viennese Egg Tapping Championship
Now, the constant competing, championing and breaking records are primarily male characteristics but in this case, it could be fun. Vienna’s first Egg Tapping Championship calls for a pre-Easter showdown. The hardest Easter egg (and its owner of course) that survives the big tapping will be awarded. This is a case for a trained eye and good sense of touch, plus stamina, humour, and an appetite for a few breads with butter and eggs ;-) Nice side-effect: for each broken egg, one euro is given to the Dancer Against Cancer campaign! Sure sounds like fun!

Taiga, Ice and Shamanism
Even though women are hardly mentioned in the context of important expeditions: there have always been brave female adventurers! These days, travelling has become a lot easier and anyway, if you accompany expert Martin Weber, nothing can go wrong. Today, the hiking coach is advising on a winter trip to Lake Baikal planned for 2019. The expedition to the faraway Siberia is suitable for the inexperienced yet still breathtaking: the planet’s biggest fresh water reservoir turns into a dreamy, bizarrely beautiful icescape during winter. Starting immediately, Viennese women of the world have their handbags produced at Kaiserstraße. By hand, no less. The neat story behind it: Alexander Rippka has taken over the invaluable model archive of leatherware producer Albert Pattermann from 1931. He has given new light to the, at times slightly adapted, classics. In the newly-opened shop (plus workshop) there are over 40 timeless evening-, shopping- or shoulder bags, inlcuding more extravagant ones in silver and pink as well. The bags are even elegant on the inside! A brush of Dior from Vienna in workshop atmosphere, so to speak!
