"Heya Girls!"
It was quite a long time ago when the story of one of the finest manufactories of the country started on Wieden (almost exactly where your favourite newsletter is produced). Many regular customers consider the exquisite, welted shoes by Ludwig Reiter to be the most beautiful shoes in the world. And proof that tradition can also be modern. A couple of years ago the company moved to the outskirts, since then the striking shoes have been produced in the middle of a park at the beautifully renovated estate Süßenbrunn. And this is where a Sample Sale is taking place on Friday which you simply have to attend! Because: factory outlet with price-reduced footwear, bags and belts – with another 10% discount for regulars (simply register per mail for that). And: a Lena Hoschek pop-up store with prêt-à-porter fashion and traditional clothing from previous collections at sale prices! And: refreshments by Sanfish as well as caffeine kicks by Fürth Kaffee. Yep!
Wishing you a pre-summery week,
Your CitySpotterGirl

Electric Spring
The finest electronic vibes make the MQ swing today because that’s where the Electric Spring Festival will be happening on several stages! Indoor, outdoor, free and with a sound programme following the motto “What the People Want”. The Viennese Hanna will take care of the warm-up with euphoric and versatile mixes of hip hop and future beats, in the main yard, afterwards it gets shrill, wild, loud, and excessive with the eccentric electro pop by “Kids n Cats”. And in Hall E, the party continues on two stages and with different sets till the wee hours, same thing tomorrow!

Larissa Leverenz
Unusual graphics and image compositions in eye-catching colours: Cologne-born Larissa Leverenz makes a point of breaking with familiar views of everyday things. Objects and structures are arranged in new ways, rotated and shown in new perspectives, the otherwise common symbolic importance of still lifes is lead ad absurdum. For instance, her work “moon flap two”, painted on poplar wood using mixed technique, shows a moon between round circular forms in a tilted room, another picture playing with forms and perspectives is “Secret Level”. To be seen from today!

„Ganymed in Love” at carla
The Caritas halls are vitalised with art today: the success story “Ganymed” moves from Kunsthistorisches Museum to the furniture storage at Mittersteig for one evening. In a special show, the ensemble will play nine scenes from the current production, which is dedicated to the topic of love this year – love as a magical power of attraction, essential driving force and great opportunity. Amidst chairs, tables, carpets and junk goods, the artists sing, play, and make music to bring to life a world of feelings. The proceeds go to the #wirtun aid fund for women experiencing acute emergencies.

Amanda Pina: The Jaguar and the Snake
A captivating dance performance aiming to change the view of the indigenous population of America: in her piece “The Jaguar and the Snake” the Chilean-Mexican-Austrian choreographer and dancer Amanda Pina brings hybrid beings to the stage that populate the imagery of the indigenous peoples. Animal, human, and vegetal beings meet, fuse and transform. What other forms of relationships are possible between animals, humans and plants and what can we learn from that? Great idea from Sweden: they simply combine jogging with picking up waste (in Swedish: “plocka upp”). Today they are plogging in Vienna for the first time! For this, you simply need to drive to Neue Donau in your running gear armed with bags; gloves and grabber tool aren’t a bad idea, either. The people will be divided in four different groups: one walking group and running groups from 3 to 10 kilometres. After a short introduction and the forming of groups, you will first jog and collect, afterwards the helpers will be rewarded with a snack for their service to the environment.

Dianne Reeves
This lady is one of the really great ones in the jazz-soul-business! Tonight, she will bring down the house at Wiener Konzerthaus with her powerful voice and her lyrical ballads. You simply have to dress up and give yourself up to the songs of the „Best Vocal“-jazz icon, who has been nominated for Grammys several times because when the US-American sings about the “Beautiful Life” with her passion and musical power it will go through your ears right to your heart. Her mixture of styles from R’n’B to pop and reggae is on point and her interpretations are simply wonderful!

Summer Flowers Sale at Federal Gardens
Since it’s the time of planting and flowers sprouting, have another floral tip: from time to time, the Federal Gardens sell plants super cheap to private plant lovers. These days, they are giving away summer flowers from their own production for reimbursement of costs again – and that at Schlosspark Schönbrunn. You’ll have to wander to the courtyard of the Botanical Collections where the colourful flowers (many bed and balcony flowers like pelargonium or zinnia) are offered until mid-May. As long as stock lasts, so better not go on the last day!

Claudia Dzengel
“Kalligrafie ist ein Kinderspiel” is the title of a new book and also the title of Claudia Dzengel’s new exhibition that opens today. It highlights original pictures from the book and features current works by the designer born in Germany, who has studied colour design and has since dedicated herself to handwriting and script in space. Her experimental calligraphy experiences an interplay between written and painted letters again and again, in her book she shows how to playfully combine ancient alphabets with modern handlettering. Great!

Herr Zettel ist verwirrt
Alas, it could have been so nice: Mendelsohn’s romantic music and Shakespeare’s fantastic play read by Sigrid Hauser, plus touching bedtime songs sung by a choir and the whole thing being conducted by Stefan Vladar. If only it weren’t for the weaver Niklas Zettel (Michael Niavarani) who mixes up the night with his crude jokes and makes the audience cry tears of laughter! After “Richard III” and “Romeo und Julia”, Shakespeare-fan Niavarani brings the “Summer Night’s Dream” to the stage as a reading with orchestra and choir. Sex, drugs & droll drama are guaranteed ;-)

Bing Gong at Schönbrunn
A wonderful thought that is to become a reality in the spring-like, glorious Schlosspark: the more people practise Qi Gong at the same time, the more positive energy is distributed for all sentient beings. That’s why relaxation coach Claudia Weidinger guides people through a free session in Schönbrunn today, they will practise the “8 Treasures of the Shaolin” under her supervision. The simple movement exercises and breathing exercises will revive your spirits. Everybody can join in – it doesn’t matter at all whether you have experience with Qi Gong or not!

BACHT Vienna
In Vienna, there are many ingenious young designers at work, some of them are also running their own shops. But a big multi-brand-store that unites the hippest, mostly local fashion brands under one roof hasn’t existed in this form until now. Sasa Fabjan, herself designer of the label FIN, has taken over the former „artup” and has filled the spacious fashion store with items by more than 40 creative colleagues from Vienna and Europe. Sorted by styles and colours, they are now offering chic and unusual pieces from Anja Lauermann to Pitour and Marcel Ostertag. And they also have extravagant jewellery!

Restaurant of the Week
Tipps der Stadtspionin
Last week, Sören Herzig has opened his restaurant fervently awaited by gourmets. Herzig, who came to Vienna with three-star-cook Juan Amador, has guts: he plans to establish one of Vienna’s top restaurants in the middle of the 15th district (in an awesomely converted Dorotheum hall). For dinner they serve an opulent menu of seven courses that can be easily called sensational (from Hamachi fish in a carrot coat or lamb with rhubarb), for lunch they offer an affordable and delicious dish of the day. All I’m saying: the best meatballs ever! Plus a friendly, young service team and an elegant-cool ambience. Wow!
