"Heya Girls!"
Politically, the world is in distress right now, a crazy billionaire, who likes to grab strange women by their “pussy”, becomes president of the US and Hofer & co cannot decide if they would rather defame VdB as a communist or if they want to put him in the Nazi corner. Could somebody please press pause? And stop this vortex of collective craziness at least for a little while? Maybe the upcoming weekend will help: when thousands of people are doing yoga in Vienna and when there are fairs like “YOGA Planet” and “VEGAN Planet” happening at the MAK at the same time, we hope for “good vibrations” in the city. For three days everything will be revolving around yoga and the vegan lifestyle – there will be 120 exhibitors, more than 30 talks and workshops, culinary highlights and vegan cooking shows. But above all you can try pretty much every yoga style that exists worldwide during join-in yoga classes. Ranging from Acro yoga to yoga therapy, from Forrest yoga to Vinyasa yoga. I already know: yoga won’t heal the world. But it will distance us a little bit from all this craziness!

Wishing you a calm week

Big pearl sale
Between the nostalgic vintage pieces and colorful ethnic eye-catchers in jewelry expert Johanna Kölbl’s store you kind of feel like you’re in a Wes Anderson film. No matter if it’s The Grand Budapest Hotel or The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou: in this store everything is full of color, pomp and kitsch. And that is also the reason why it’s time for a change in the product line and why many pearls made from terracotta, bone, Murano or metal are available at great on-sale prices. You can buy 50 grams starting at 5 €! Other decoration material is on sale as well! Until the end of the year!

Blue Bird Festival & Rykarda Parasol
What started a few years ago with lots of commitment and lifeblood as a planned “one-day-wonder” is today one of the most popular music festivals of Austria. Fans of singers and songwriters can party for three days at the Blue Bird Festival: melancholic guys from Ireland (I have a tribe) will be performing and also the best songwriter of England Neil Halstead and Aldous Harding from New Zealand with her gothic fairytales. Great tip for today: Rykarda Parasol. With her deep voice she tells stories about experience, loss and adventure – always elegant and dark.

„Glamorous women of Vienna“
A travel through time to Vienna during the turn of the century and the Golden Twenties: back then a new type of women came up, Viennese women were self-confident, outgoing, mystifying and attractive. And they caused quite the stir: be it Olga Desmond, one of Vienna’s first nude dancers or diseuse Greta Keller, who was Marlene Dietrich’s inspiration for her lascivious-smoky timbre or Markat model Hanna Klinkosch. The exciting and often dramatic stories of 26 “women with that certain something” are portrayed with many anecdotes in Werner Rosenberger’s newest book “Glamouröse Wienerinnen”.

claustyler-trunk-show at Trendzeit
When designers sell their collections basically directly from the trunk to their clients, it is called a trunk show. Today the Viennese designer Claus Tyler – possibly a new star of fashion! – will open his luggage at the boutique Trendzeit. He brought some highlights from his newest collection “through the looking glass”, for example elegant dresses with a Haute Couture flair, very stylish with shimmering metallic threads and interesting transparency effects. And, to calm down all the excited shoppers, there will be Lillet aperitifs ;-)

“Money is power?“
Even though more women than ever are earning their “own” money – financial dependency in a marriage is difficult for many. It often facilitates an imbalance of power, which borders on oppression. It is just as burdening when women not only have to take care of house and kids but also have to earn the main part of the family income. This group of women often includes those, whose husbands don’t have access to the labor market. At today’s talk psychologist Claudia Prudic will talk about how women can escape such dependencies.

Whirl dance of the dervishes
To spin until you are dizzy – everybody knows that queasy but fun feeling. But spinning for a longer period of time without stopping can also result in a relaxing and exciting journey to one’s own center. Which brings us to the whirl dance: this dance takes you to your own mental and physical limits – in order to spin for a long time, you have to outgrow your own comfort zone. At dance pedagogue Julia Fraunlob’s workshop your body is put in motion through breathing exercises, shaking and simple movements and then each participant can develop their own whirl dance technique. Great against Christmas insanity!

„During the Night“ at the KHM
A lot is going on, at night at the museum! The Museum of Art History (KHM) has asked celebrities from the worlds of art, culture and science to grapple with the topics of the current Edmund de Waal exhibition. Today, the results can be explored during a nightshift with many readings, talks and performances: Michael Köhlmeier is referring literarily to the “Medusa by Rubens”, philharmonic Franz Bartolomey will be playing his cello to the exhibits and author Vea Kaiser will also have a say. At the end, the whole event will culminate in a talk from the artist himself.

Hartmann Nordenholz final stock & sample sale
Because Agnes Nordenholz has been doing her own fashion-thing with the same name for the least four seasons, the German-Austrian designer duo “Hartmann Nordenholz” doesn’t exist any longer. But there are still quite a few pieces in stock here in Vienna from their joint collections from the years 2000 to 2014 – and those are being sold in a final sale. And you should definitely take advantage! There are bags, nice avant-garde loden coats, silk dresses and also fine knit-pieces and designs that have actually never been sold before. Mephisto’s awakening
Tonight, the audience in “Hell” (that is what the basement is called) at the Theater an der Wien will be heated up in a Dadaistic and senseless manner. There really is nothing left out at the historical and hot-blooded revue; performances range from a super-happy Christoph Wagner-Trenkwitz as a moody Donald Duck to an embarrassingly fresh Stefan Fleischhacker as Lucia. Additionally, an also very eccentric diseuse will take the audience on a journey of the Romanian art of dancing and there will be a live stream of the Dance Olympics in Chemnitz where Picasso’s cubist ballet can be watched. Well, that’s Dada ;-)

ChristmasQuarter & Swedish Julbasar
Oh dear advent season, when business is crazy at the Christmas markets! During the first weekend of Advent the WeihnachtsQuartier (ChristmasQuarter) will once again tempt us to spend money. 1 000 square meters of designs and more than 100 creative people will be at the MuseumsQuarter, everything is sold indoors where it’s heated! So there will be lots of people but also great and extraordinary presents ranging from fashion to jewelry, paper and ceramics. For those who prefer a more tranquil event, there is also the Julbasar of the Swedish church on today’s “Söndag”, with Lucia-singing, Glögg and nice products from the far north.

Sympathy-bonus! What do two acting graduates do in order to avoid unemployment? They form a cabaret duo together and breathe new life into the male-dominated cabaret scene. In their second program “denn sie wissen nicht, was sie tun 2.0” (“for they know not what they do 2.0”) they talk boldly and with lots of self-irony about their lives and the everyday topics of the 21st century: watching TV without going gaga, taking the U-Bahn without going crazy or going to a restaurant without questioning your common sense while reading the menu. Women’s Health Day at the St. Josef Hospital women can find out more about the possibilities of therapy and about which precautious measures should be taken. Floaten at the Therme Wien
To weightlessly escape the daily routine in complete silence, that is what the CitySpotterGirl longs for on stressful days. Sigh! And that is now possible at the floating pool where you can float weightlessly in the water because of its high salinity. Until December 23rd you can float at the Therme Wien for only 30 instead of 45 Euros and of course you have the pool immersed in softly dimmed light all to yourself for 50 minutes.

An underwater world made of glass
In the year 1863 the artists Leopold and Rudolph Blaschka started to create thousands of glass models of marine animals. The fabrication of these incredibly delicate and exceedingly perfect and beautiful models has remained a riddle until today. The jellyfish, octopuses, anemones and nautiluses were produced for the university and never shown to the public. But that changes today: from now on the spineless underwater miracle models can be seen at the Natural History Museum – and they are equally fascinating and terrifying, beautiful and mysterious.

Andrea Schroeder
She is a song poet whose voice is just as captivating as her lyrical and often melancholic song texts: Andrea Schroeder from Berlin has made both feuilleton and critics break out in storms of enthusiasm with her first two albums. The Rolling Stone for example described her second work as a “powerful album full of drama and melancholy, somewhere between Leonard Cohen, Scott Walker, Nick Cave and Nico”. After many sold out concerts and acclaimed festival performances she released her third album “Void” this summer and is now on tour. Tonight at Theater Akzent, listen in here!

Smoky evening
How about ending the year in an especially pleasant manner? Perfectly timed for the upcoming cold and smoky nights, Birgit Heyn introduces the ancient art of ritual smoking. Why and when do you smoke? How do you use charcoal? And how do angelica and dragon’s blood smell? Smoking is a deeply rooted tradition in many cultures and the herbs, resins and blossoms are dedicated to certain goddesses, gods and protective spirits. Stories and myths accompany the ritual smoking and stimulate the imagination and unconscious. An evening full of practical and background knowledge.

A classic sofa made from a grand piano, a couch table made from a drum and light sources made from shuttlecocks: interior designer Gary Sanders has devoted himself entirely to fanciful upcycling. The trained carpenter from Manchester in the UK has settled in Vienna after studying architecture and travelling the world and now, in his new store, he wants to inspire others to turn old stuff into new and upscale pieces. He will gladly upcycle finds of his clients and let them peek over his shoulder while he is working. He also offers upcycling workshops. Nice!

Pastrami Baby
It was about time! Finally a Reuben sandwich, which can bear comparison to the ones in New York. So: gourmet chef Robert Haider (former chef at Zweitbester) and his colleagues decided to make the best sandwiches in Vienna and compete against the Viennese “Wurstsemmel”. And it works! With excellent ingredients (bread from Gragger, pastrami from Paul Mogg) and ingenious seasoning the tender pastrami beef brisket in different variations is put between rye toasts. Tastes delicious, but the sandwich with arctic char and fig mustard is also a hit. Eat in or take away!
