"Heya Girls!"
I’ve spent the summer in New York, but still haven’t seen the Empire State Building or China Town. I simply had no time for tourist activities, after all I wanted to try out all Food Markets in the Big Apple. And heaven, there are many! Since then I have become a happy never-full: I know what Ramen burgers taste like, I’ve had the best Danish pastry in the world and I’m addicted to cactus lemonade. And now I know: Food-lovers’ heaven is definitely in Brooklyn and called “Smorgasburg“! Well, it’s quite obvious what I’m going to do this weekend. I’ll pilgrim to the Marx Halle and cure my homesickness for New York at the Vienna Food Festival. After all, 50 food trucks and stalls provide foodies with goodies. And since we are in Vienna, there’ll not only be paella but also Beuscherl and besides “pulled pork” also traditional roast pork. Yummy!
Wishing you a spicy week

Katia Mann / Hedy Lamarr
This theatre evening is all about two unusual women: Helmut Korherr’s one-woman-one-act plays are about Katia Mann, on one side – she was the woman behind Thomas Mann and remains a mystery even to the close circle of the family. And on the other side, Hedy Lamarr, the Viennese film star, who made it to the top in Hollywood, but there she became enslaved by an insane cult of beauty and underwent countless cosmetic surgeries. As different as the lives of the two ladies may seem – they both have a complex character and a strong will to success. Premiere tonight!

Long Day of Flight
Sadly, this is still a topical issue: On the long day of flight, taking place today, everyone is invited to deal with the subjects flight and asylum and to find out more about it in countless free events. In the adventure course “Feel like a refugee“ for example, visitors can experience the situations refugees have to go through themselves and see how they would feel under the circumstances. The Kunst Haus Wien invites to an intercultural photo walk and in a “Ha-Ha-Hasy” event, texts and social net videos are used to show what Afghan and Syrian refugees laugh about.

Fotostudio & Sprachkistl
Ulrike Wieser is a passionate photographer, Christina Sann prefers to express herself through words rather than pictures and supports people in learning languages and translating texts. The two ladies combined their gifts and opened a friendly photo studio with an included language atelier in the busy surroundings of Brunnenmarkt, Yppenplatz and Neulerchenfeld. The opening is celebrated today with a small party in Ottakring. Besides snacks & drinks, visitors may look forward to an entertaining language riddle and a lottery raffling a professional photo shooting and a taster language lesson.

Open weekend at Burgtheater
Normally, the Burg audience is captivated by what’s happening onstage. This weekend the whole house comes up with exciting acts – also at so far unknown places such as the catacombs or the machinery rooms. The entire staff, from make-up to stage scenery, provides interesting insights into their life and work in the theatre. And if you want to see actors such as Joachim Meyerhoff live, just attend one of the scenic readings. Last but not least, the technical staff show their skills in a spectacular stage show with pyrotechnics to doomsday. Everything for free!

An adventurous expedition for theatre lovers! On occasion of the season opening in Dschungel, the artist collective makemake performs an excursion to discover human history. It starts with a collective bus ride at the MQ, during the half-hour trip, a big bang sonata in many voices prepares the audience for the subject. At the destination of the excursion, the former coffin factory F23 in Liesing, five researchers await the participants and accompany them through the Genesis Park multiverse with different climate zones, animals in overall-costumes and cyborgs. Be it a broken switch, a fluttering light or a short circuit when turning on the lamp – all patients with lighting problems are cordially welcome, you don’t have to be a technical genius to make old lamps shine again ;-) It’s also possible to modify your lamps, in all cases the fee depends on the material used.

Ana Curcin
Such a remarkable voice! Singer-songwriter Ana Curcin, born in Bagdad, grown up in Moscow, combines folk, Americana and dream pop to her own, amazingly beautiful musical mix. Due to her astonishing singles “Cut Loose” and “I Can’t” as well as her deeply moving live acts the young artist became one of the most promising performers of the East-European singer-songwriter scene. Tonight, Ana Curcin makes her first live appearance in Vienna. The CitySpotterGirl’s modest opinion: A star is born! Listen here to convince yourself.

Tristan Iseult Disaster
Already the title of the theatre play makes us grin! The Viennese director Marie-Therez Lorenz transferred the disastrous triangle-love story of Tristan and Iseult into modern times and humorously set it in the world of bitter chocolate. Even the aesthetic of the piece is unusual: a mix of object theatre and “physical theatre”. Six actors create a magical world out of five wooden boards, in which the audience is catapulted from one scene to the next within seconds. Interesting as well: the performance was financed via crowdfunding. Premiere is tonight!

Made by B.E.I.
A true insider tip! The Turkish handicraft lover Elcin Ererdal has opened a small empire full of enchanting accessories in the shopping arcade close to the Gersthofer Platzl. Many of the goods are from her home country – for example the colourful Oriental pottery or the original bags with crocheted crown corks of the Turkish upcycling social project “Müll-Madam”. The delicate plant-shaped textile jewellery is another extraordinary highlight. And besides pillows, ponchos and scarves you’ll also find beautiful Hamam scarves of course. So pretty!

Tipps der Stadtspionin
Just in time for the marvellous exhibition of world star Ai Weiwei, the museum restaurant in the 21er Haus has opened again. The furniture (taken from the previous owner) spreads the charm of an old-fashioned hotel lobby but the huge, wind-protected terrace in the deep-set court of the museum even turns a late September day into high summer – relaxing on a sunbed included. The chefs have great ambitions and come up with papperdelle with chorizo or delicious grilled squid on sweet corn cream. They also serve cheap set meals for lunch. And the waiters are super friendly – a promising location!
