"Heya Girls!"
There is a new word in English that I constantly use at the moment: lockdownish. “I feel so lockdownish today” has at least a hundred meanings and fits practically every topic. When I'm lockdownish-depressed, the only thing that helps is “Bridgerton” on Netflix. However, lockdownish states can also be creative – for example, when it's time to find new ways of doing things at work because the old ones no longer work due to Corona. Like this: Hotels have to be closed, galleries are not allowed to open, art fairs are forbidden – so we mix everything together and make something new. On Thursday, Vienna's first virtual art fair will start in the conference rooms of the Hotel Intercontinental, which have been unused for months. In the elegant rooms, 13 historic museum showcases from the MAK will be set up and filled by 13 galleries. You can visit the fair via videos, and conversations with artists such as the group Gelitin (photo) and gallery owners take place online. A really great idea. And so lockdownish!
Have a surprising week

Bed stories
Mankind's most important piece of furniture has a rather fascinating past; after all, we spend a third of our lives in bed. When the Sun King Louis XIV went to bed, a select aristocratic audience watched his “sunset”. Until the 18th century, it was still perfectly normal for many people to lie in bed together because it was the only place where it was warm. The Zurich Landesmuseum is currently showing how drastically the bedroom has changed. Today, you can take a tour via Zoom through 4 centuries of nightwear and other people’s bedsheets.

Livestream: Blonde on Blonde
Helps with winter tristesse: the venue Tunnel will bring the all-girl rock band “Blonde on Blonde” on stage and will stream their concert live on Facebook tonight. The combination of four girls doesn't just look like the 1960s with all the glitter, tulle and headbands: with songs by the Beatles, Stones, Nancy Sinatra, The Who and The Doors, they revive the myth of the good old songs. You can listen in here. Strong electric guitars, a drum kit and singer Lilli belting out rock'n'roll hymns: Not always quite perfect, but it’s great fun!

City Hunt online: The Faber Case
Put on your thinking cap, this is gonna get tricky: In the new online format “City Hunt”, you investigate a case where it is technically already too late – Mr Faber is dead, his personal security has failed. To solve the murder, the investigators meet via Zoom and are divided into small special units. Actors mime witnesses and suspects, and for their interrogation each team is led into separate, virtual rooms. Now clues have to be deciphered and the right questions need to be asked. Important facts are stored online – and if questions do arise, two inspectors are ready and waiting.
Dinner & Crime. Only online. 28 January 19:00 to 22:00. 28 €. Web

Calienna: The Living Window
As of today, a small jungle is growing in the shop window of “Calienna”, Vienna's first concept store for plants. The “Living Window” makes garden shopping possible in a contactless yet direct way, because every plant and every pot in the window is marked with a number. Like a menu plan, the numbers plus QR code are written on the window, the code scan leads to the right greenery in the web shop. Then you pay via “Click and Collect” and if you drop by during pick-up times, you can take your right order with you. Otherwise, just have it conveniently delivered.
Calienna, Neubaugasse 68, 1070 Vienna. From 29 January. Pick-up Fri-Sun 12:00 to 17:00. Web

Backstage at wiener konfektion
The shop has to stay closed, but the fashion studio and tailor's shop of wiener konfektion are officially allowed to stay open. That's why designer Maria Fürnkranz has started her campaign “Backstage - a visit to the workshop” and tailor-makes her fashion for you. At the one-to-one appointment, measurements are taken, and anything in her stock is fair game colour- and fabric-wise. For cool upcycling fashion: bring along a pair of old jeans and Fürnkranz will combine the oldie with fabrics to create a new, individual skirt. And to shop at home, her current collection is now 30% off in the web shop!

Buchteln from Vollpension
Buchteln are now saving the world! Okay, maybe not the whole world, but our Corona-shaken Vienna. The pastries from “Vollpension” sweeten it a bit at least ;-) At the inter-generational café, grandpas and grandmas bake using old recipes, and starting now, they treat you to fluffy warm take-away Buchteln every weekend. At the venue in Schleifmühlgasse, they make them with jam inside or vanilla sauce on top – without preorder, so you have to plan for a bit of a waiting period. For feasting and chuckling, because everything else is serious enough anyway these days.

The Strottern
How many gigs have been cancelled in the last few months? All of them. But the jazz club “Porgy & Bess” makes sure that “Die Strottern” in combo with the “JazzWerkstatt” can to play their traditional New Year's concert online today. Die Strottern have already won several major music prizes. What makes the acoustic duo so successful is their authentic Viennese song in dialect with a jazz influence. They sing about love affairs, morbid things and grumpiness – just what makes up the Viennese soul ;-) Tonight's concert is fully live, nothing is recorded. It’ll be quite a brouhaha!
