Business Gladiators live
What do economically successful people do right? At this online event, four Austrians who are currently big in business will talk about their strategies for success. Felix Ohswald, whose tutoring platform GoStudent is now a 3-billion-euro company, is one of them. Mediashop boss Katharina Schneider, on the other hand, has revolutionised the old-fashioned concept of teleshopping and reaches 150 million potential customers every day. Fitness & beauty entrepreneur Chris Steiner and “Entrepreneur of the Year” Philipp Maderthaner are also on board. Voila, inspiration!

Mondschein Fabrics Flea Market
Gabriele Lechner designs home and fashion accessories from fine fabrics such as merino loden, mulberry silk or delicately printed organic cotton. Today, a fabric flea market is taking place in the studio of her label Mondschein! In addition to the soft loden fabrics, which are produced in a family business in Styria, there's also cotton canvas from Carinthia, leather and vintage haute couture fabrics that haven't quite been used up. Lechner pays attention to the ecological and social sustainability of the fabrics she sells today at flea market prices. To the sewing machine!

Free oranges for Vienna
Surprise: At the Ottakringer Brewery site, everyone gets a crate of oranges for free today! They come from Greece and cannot be sold by the farmers because they do not quite meet EU standards. Real oranges are sometimes too small, too scarred, not quite round or sometimes green. However, this says nothing about their degree of ripeness! The campaign is organised by the Swiss project “Gebana”: In their online shop, you can pre-order fair-trade fruit, nuts, coffee & co “ex farm” and receive the fruit once they are actually ripe. Cool!
Ottakringer Brauerei, Ottakringer Platz 1, 1160 Vienna. 11 March 10:00 to 18:00. Please register. Web

When the Wind Blows
Air is life. It is the medium of scents, sounds and the weather. It can be polluted, generate energy, destroy cities. Starting today, the Kunsthaus Wien is attempting to visualise this invisible element. 22 international and Austrian artists have dealt with wind, breath and air in various ways: Susan Walsh had the wind paint for her, Ulrike Königshofer recorded wind using a windmill and can replicate it exactly via a fan, and Ayumi Ishii compares his visualised breath with the clouds in the sky. Today is the opening, admission free!

Vienna: legends, jokes, strange places
A different look at the city centre: from today onwards, you will see Vienna with completely different eyes! Almost forgotten street names, old plaques and strange signs criss-cross the city centre – they are all there to be discovered on this tour through the 1st district. Even those who think they know Vienna like the back of their hand will be surprised: Vienna is full of history(s), absurd and sometimes even creepy. Today we will visit, for example, the cow that plays the board game, the tasting worm and the flea-expelling Saint Michael. A drink afterwards is included in the price.
Meeting point: Herrengasse 13, 1010 Vienna. 11 March 15:00 to 17:00. 39 €. Please register. Web

Fran Lebowitz |

An Evening with Fran Lebowitz
Fran Lebowitz is a pop culture icon. She’s a sarcastic writer, a shrewd commentator, an astute satirist. Lebowitz was, among other things, a cleaning lady and taxi driver in New York before she began writing for Andy Warhol's magazine Interview. She is known for her trouser suits and her incomparable self-irony. Younger generations may know her from the Netflix miniseries “Pretend It's a City”, in which she muses with Martin Scorsese about her life and suffering in N.Y. Today, the 71-year-old queen of sarcasm will talk about everything under the sun for the first time at Gartenbaukino!

Day of Viennese District Museums
CitySpotterGirl has a soft spot for the slightly dusty exhibition arrangements and honourable directors of Vienna's district museums ;-) For sometimes there are real treasures and a lot of knowledge buried there! Today, all district museums are open from 10:00 to 16:00 and show special exhibitions on the topic of medicine. Viennese pharmacies, hospitals and sanatoriums from the past hold an exciting piece of history that rarely receives attention. Today, each museum offers lectures and guided tours on hygiene and health from the Middle Ages to the 20th century.

Cécile McLorin Salvant
The American jazz vocalist Cécile McLorin Salvant comes to the Konzerthaus! Her last two albums have won Grammys, and JazzTimes magazine recently named her the best female voice of all. Accompanied by virtuoso jazz pianist Sullivan Fortner, she will perform songs from her latest album “The Window”. People like to compare the singer to jazz greats like Ella Fitzgerald or Billie Holiday – on her current album she pays tribute to them and reinterprets classics like Aretha Franklin's “One Step Ahead”. Worth listening to!

Rose
Andrea Eckert is Rose, the only Holocaust survivor in her family. She is sitting shiva on a bench – a Jewish one-week-long mourning tradition – for a little Palestinian girl that her grandson has shot. This scene is the starting point for Rose's numerous memories from the 1930s to the turn of the millennium: her life and suffering, the demise of Yiddish culture and the alienation between modern Israelis and Jews from the diaspora in the “Old World”. Despite the serious topics, it’s a very humorous play – performed in pure monologue by the great Andrea Eckert!

Ai Weiwei
Today starts the probably most important exhibition of this spring: the Albertina modern dedicates its most comprehensive retrospective to Ai Weiwei to date! “In search of humanity” is a journey through the artist's career, which has now lasted more than 4 decades. Ai Weiwei, who was born in China and imprisoned after making statements critical of the government, has lived in Europe since 2015. He focuses on power structures and systems of rule; taking a closer look wherever human rights are in danger. On show are wall works, sculptures, installations, photographs and films!

Support your local business done differently: The Viennese notebook manufacturer Paper Republic exports to all kinds of countries, but since this week it finally has its first “real” shop in Vienna! Italian leather on the outside, Swedish paper on the inside: what makes the notebooks special: they can be refilled! When a pad is full, you can simply clamp in a new one with an elastic band. The workshop in the 9th district has now been expanded to include a shop. It consists of a small, very fine selection of the assortment – if you don't find what you're looking for, you can also order via Click & Collect!

Diwan 1100
Finally, a tip from Favoriten again! Deep inside the tenth district, there’s a Turkish restaurant tempting you with a funny look – something between a casual American diner and a garden gazebo – and absolutely perfect handling of the charcoal grill. The grilled veal skewer with lavash bread: next level. Spicy sofeli: to the point. Oh yes, and there's also Turkish breakfast. The Serpme Kahvalti consists of many individual dishes – tapas in the morning version, so to speak. Fries, sigara böregi, soslu beaver kizartma and tons of vegetables and cheese. That and the nice service are worth any journey!
