"Heya Girls!"
In the past, this was not a hobby for the emperors, but sheer competition: who has the most beautiful orangery among the crowned heads of Europe? Obviously, the Habsburgs wanted to hold the upper hand in this. At Schönbrunn, a 190-metre-long house was built for the emperor's “golden apples”, and the heating system laid in the floor still dates from the times of Maria Theresa. The result of the royal rivalries is quite unique: Vienna still houses a fantastic collection of historical citrus plants – from Buddha's Hand (photo) to Citrus Medica. And next weekend the rarities will be on display! During the Citrus Days, the exotic plants will be on display in the Orangery – and you can also buy citrus plants for your room and garden, buy garden accessories and books, and take part in guided tours. And for special questions, the specialists of the Bundesgärten are available every day. An insider tip for all plant lovers interested in exotic flair!

Wishing you a refreshing week,

Sisterhood
The time of women has come! The group exhibition “Sisterhood” calls on women to support each other, because feminism needs sisterhood. The focus of the exhibition is on what connects: It’s about friendships, role models, empowerment, solidarity and the power of collectives. The works tell of women who make a difference in small and large ways – paying tribute to the multidimensional beauty and work of women. On display are paintings, objects, and video art by 15 women artists such as Linde Waber, Stella Bach and Gerti Hopf.

Bruno Beltrao: New Creation
He is known as a revolutionary of hip-hop – but in his new work, choreographer Bruno Beltrao strikes more thoughtful, calmer tones for the first time. Beltrao's dance always revolves around irresolvable conflicts and opposing developments. He is fascinated by the search for solidarity and common ground. In 2022, the social division in Brazil has intensified, agitation and hatred dominate. And so Beltrao, together with ten dancers from his Grupo de Rua, asks: How can we keep moving when anti-human politics paralyses all resistance and a poisonous fog suffocates all positive visions?

Birthday at Babette’s
She spices up our lives: Nathalie Pernstich is the woman behind Babette's, the cookbook and culinary hotspot in Vienna. There she lovingly roasts, blends, grinds and packages the finest raw materials in her in-house spice manufactory. This year Babette's is celebrating her 20th anniversary. For two days, all her spices and blends are 20 % off to celebrate her birthday. Including organic rose harissa, salad habibi, and apple strudel spice. She is particularly proud of the signature blend BIO Mélange Maison, which was her very first creative spice blend and is also appreciated by gastro professionals.

Raise the curtain on Ulrike Ottinger's cinematic work! The feminist cinema pioneer, all-round artist and world traveller is celebrating her 80th birthday these days. Those who want to congratulate her personally can do so at the current retrospective at the Filmmuseum, where she presents all her films in person. Today, “The Infatuation of the Blue Sailors”, a conglomerate of painting, photography, dance, music, architecture, literature, choreography, rhythm, composition, light and colour dramaturgy, will be shown.  Heldenbar
Sparkling Spring Picknick
True heroes lie down in the grass and enjoy. Or something. In any case, Heldenplatz is the perfect location. For there is a Heldenbar in front of the World Museum that prepares picnic baskets to order. With drinks, fine snacks, ice cubes and a blanket, you can dream yourself away from everyday life, perhaps to Prince Eugene or even Franzl? Whatever, it's best to enjoy a sip of rosé and a slice of bresaola, because the time for modern heroes has just begun. Anyone who wants to reserve a basket now has the chance Thursday to Sunday from 12:00 to 19:00.

Kattus Organic Buschenschank
The Nussberg is a great location to chill out in style. Not only the vines, but also the wonderful terraces and panoramic spots make the Nussberg a place-to-be in summer. Pop-up wine taverns have enriched the gastronomic scene here in recent years. This year, the Viennese wine producer Kattus joins in, making camp at Feuerwehr Wagner. On 4 dates, with a view of the Viennese skyline, it gets Buschenschank-y here. So today, from 11:00 between the vines, there's a modern (also vegan) interpretation of the Viennese Heurigen – and Superfly sound instead of Schrammeln.

10 Years Gospel Project
Over 70 singers, rousing music, a groovy band, a cool location – this could be an exquisitely exhilarating evening ;-) The Gospel Project is one of the best gospel choirs in the country, although it does not consider itself to be an elite choir. Anyone who takes the time to rehearse can join. Tonight's concert will also be a celebration: The 10th anniversary of the Gospel Project is coming up. Star soloist Kim Cooper (of the Rounder Girls) will be in on it, so it will be a powerful experience. There will also be a flash mob on Stephansplatz on Friday. You can check out a sample here.

CleanUp New Danube
Every day, the Danube washes four tonnes of plastic into the Black Sea! And if you've ever seen how much rubbish is lying around on the banks, you'll get dizzy. That's why we're rolling up our sleeves and tidying up today. Sea Shepherd Austria, the association for the protection of the sea, invites you to a joint clean-up event along the New Danube. Collecting rubbish together as a clean-up crew is actually a lot of fun. Please bring your own gloves (work gloves are best because of broken glass!) and rubbish bags, sturdy shoes are also recommended. Neat!

New Vienna Market
As you know, Wild im West moved from the former Sophienspital behind Westbahnhof. And that's where a new hub for creative ideas opens today: At the art and design market, creative people sell lots of pretty things. It starts with painting, textiles and ceramics and goes all the way to street art. This time, Bojic Wood, who stand for handmade wooden design and conjure up bowls from walnut, will be there. Or Fräulein Marie, who creates beautiful vases with concrete and recycled bottles. The selection is large, colourful and different – they also got food trucks and cool drinks.

 Erika Giovanna Klien
Erika Giovanna Klien: Viennese Kineticism
Moving art – in the truest sense of the word. Special examples of Kineticismcan currently be seen in the Kovacek Gallery: This art movement is oriented towards movement, the depicted is broken down into sequences of movements or rhythmic elements. Erika Giovanna Klien is regarded as the main representative of Viennese Kineticism; her expressionist works have just been rediscovered and presented at a magnificent exhibition. Among them is the defining painting “Subway Crowd”, which was created in New York – and captures the crowd of human figures.

 Horst P. Horst
Horst / Huene. In Style
The kings of fashion photography: George Hoyningen-Huene and Horst P. Horst set the tone for the elegance and aesthetics of the golden age of haute couture. They met and fell in love in 1930, and soon they were working together as a couple and fashion photographers behind the camera – shaping the visual language of Vogue and glossy magazines. Masterful lighting, perfectly modelled bodies and glamorous stagings: Horst / Huene redefined elegance and created images that are still among the most influential in the history of photography. Lime! Love magic of the lemon
This goes perfectly with the Citrus Days! In southern Italy, it was a tradition for many years to serve love drinks made from lemons, as they were said to have a special effect. Even today, people still believe in the magic of lemons, at least when it comes to their use in the kitchen ;-) For all good food lovers, the Italian chef Bruno Ciccaglione, who lives in Vienna, has designed a cooking course that pays homage to the citrus fruit and shows its use in the kitchen. With a glass of frizzante or a beer, the participants chop, knead, cook, taste and finally taste. Enjoy!

An evening with Jane Goodall
Everyone should have listened to this woman at least once! Chimpanzee researcher Jane Goodall is one of the world's most stirring speakers and a brilliant campaigner for environmental projects and Mother Nature. Tonight, the UN peace ambassador is finally back in Vienna after a long Corona break. Her speech will focus on her seemingly hopeless beginnings, profound experiences in the jungles of Tanzania and confident perspectives in a more than complex time. The 88-year-old fights for a world worth living in with wit, hope and stubbornness.

It won't be completely dark yet, but nevertheless he will have his lantern with him: the night watchman of Alt-Ottakring. Armed with some traditional equipment, he will guide you on this tour through the old centre of the suburb. Those who join him on the walk will be immersed in times gone by: The night watchman will tell stories, legends and tales from historic Ottakring, stops at forgotten buildings and former shops. Tip Top Frozen Market
At first it was a creative answer to Corona and lockdowns: as no events were taking place, catering entrepreneur Margit Köffler opened a pop-up with Vienna's first frozen market. It went so well that it has now become a real shop! From coq au vin (amazing) to mashed potatoes and polenta mushroom strudel, everything is cooked from regional ingredients and immediately flash-frozen. You can then buy the fine things in the smart shop along with products from producer-friends. At home, all you have to do is defrost and heat up the high-quality, handmade dishes. Really convenient!

Neni am Wasser
This will take some getting used to. The open, lively and always a bit chaotic “Tel Aviv Beach” on the Danube Canal has become a permanent restaurant – weatherproof (so it can also be visited in winter), few fresh-air seats, large menu. The look, inspired by Neni Mallorca, puts you in a summer mood. Specially designed furniture, colours in earthy tones, lots of cacti and bast lamps create a boho feeling. The cuisine is familiar Neni style, from mezze to salt-crusted fish and steaks. But you have to get used to the opening hours: during the week they only open in the evenings

Neni am Wasser, Donaukanal, Obere Donaustraße 65, 1020 Vienna. Tue-Fri 17:00 to 23:00, Sat from 11:00, Sun 12:00 to 18:00. Web
