Tipps der Stadtspionin

editorial

"Heya Girls!"
It is true that I'm saving a lot of money right now. But I'm having a lot of eating out withdrawal symptoms. For this reason – and because the gastronomic scene is really, really in it up to its neck at the moment – this newsletter is dedicated to only one topic for once: food! Which restaurants have delivery service? Which super expensive, super great restaurant can you suddenly afford? Who is CitySpotterGirl in love with? And where in Vienna can you get a birthday cake subscription? The latter is important because Vollpension urgently needs help. Crowdfunding has been started so that the grannies can continue to bake their cakes in the kitschiest ambience of the city. As goodies you can buy coffee for life, an engraving on the grandmothers' thank-you table or, as mentioned, a cake subscription. Every donation to "Krautfunding" helps, just like every food order at the restaurants that deliver. That way we save the diverse Viennese scene!

We can do this – together!

P.S. CitySpotterGirl’s crowdfunding still runs for 2 weeks, too. Please help – we have almost reached the goal! Web

 Paul Ivic / Tian
Paul Ivic cooks online
As is well known, the majority of humanity spends the quarantine netflixing. CitySpotterGirl does something much better: ivicing. And yes, admittedly she's a little bit in love. Paul Ivic, the mastermind behind the vegetarian gourmet temple Tian is now cooking at home in his small kitchen (which is smaller than mine) in front of a running camera. He has some cool music playing in the background, explains his wonderful dishes in a chatty tone and demonstrates with a surprising amount of humour how easy even a bouillabaisse is. Such a cool guy! Why doesn't the man actually have his own cooking show on TV?

 Hut&Stiel
Mushroom from the bucket
This mushroom must be taken care of. More than a Tamagotchi, almost like a pet. But as a reward you get to breed your own food! The "mushroom from the bucket" for at home was invented by the start-up company "Hut & Stiel". To grow the oyster mushroom, the mycelium, a living organism, is supplied together with accessories. The instructions for feeding (yes, for real :-), room temperature and optimal conditions are included. Really convenient: The perfect breeding ground are your own coffee grounds! You can harvest after 8-10 weeks. In the meantime, you can order mushroom pesto and mushroom goulash.

 Veganista/lenz
Veganista & Co
Yes! The first ice cream of the season can be enjoyed in the wild again! Eight Veganista stores have already opened after the shutdown. There are classics such as chocolate, vanilla and strawberry-agaves to lick, while the varieties coconut-chia, peanut butter and basil are more unusual. All ice creams are produced without animal products or artificial colouring and flavouring and are based on soy, oat and coconut milk, so they are also great for allergy sufferers. Even the cones and cups are made of starch in an environmentally friendly way. More tips for ice-hungry people can be found at the web portal.

 Grüne Helden
Green Heroes
Not all heroes wear capes: The Grüne Helden (Green Heroes) carry delicious sprouts to your front door. The two likeable founders Paul and Thomas open their online shop today, where they sell micro greens, meaning fully-grown sprouts from various types of vegetables. The varieties rocket, radishes, peas and sunflowers are currently being germinated – all locally right in the 15th district. The fresh greenlings are delivered by bicycle within Vienna, and can then be sprinkled either on bread, salad or as an extra topping on other dishes. Crunchy!

Luxury Home Cooking by the Ritz
Take-away for the enjoyable weekend dinner at home: Every Friday, the "Dstrict" restaurant of the luxury Ritz-Carlton Hotel now prepares home cooking with an extra touch of finesse. Normally, steaks sizzle in the Dstrict but now Austrian cuisine is prepared and pre-cooked. The fave dish on the menu today is Backerl from the Ötscherblick pig (sustainably bred by the Ortner family on their farm near Strengberg) with breadcrumb dumplings and Marchfeld pickled gherkins. The meals are fully prepared and ready for you at the pick-up station plus instructions.

Cake Friday at Clementine
Palais Coburg wants to sweeten the start of the weekend for us. Well, pray do ;-) The Palais-restaurant Clementine is producing fresh sweets to take away on today's Cake Friday. More precisely: the delicacies rhubarb cake with Muscovado crumble and lemon balm as well as cheesecake with lime-raspberry. The gourmet master Silvio Nickol contributes "banana & coffee" cakes. And the classic chocolate brownie with berries and almonds is always on the menu anyway. This is how we’ll get through the last week before the reopening! Attention: Payment is only possible without cash.

It will be a few more weeks before we can eat again in the hidden paradise garden with its prayer flags from the Himalayas, the Buddhist prayer mills and stupa stones. But at least eating momos is possible again! In the friendly Nepalese restaurant Yak and Yeti they have resumed cooking since the beginning of this week. Daily, but with a limited menu. The most important things are there, though ;-) Momos with all kinds of fillings, vegetable curry and Bhuteko Kukhura. Orders are placed by phone, you can pick it up between 12:00 and 20:00. Ayurveda Diet
As is well known, nutrition is one of the three pillars of health in Ayurveda. How food, herbs and spices can be used for this purpose, however, needs to be learned. This is exactly what expert Rita Longin reveals in today's online workshop via Zoom. Interested parties receive a detailed introduction to Ayurvedic nutrition and learn how to put it into practice personally. In other words: how to support the digestion and bring it back into balance. There is also a practical e-book with recipes for everyday life. You get the Zoom link after registering via email.

 caarven
Desperate Cooking
Humor is when you cook anyway. Or laugh. Or something. A Viennese non-influencer called caarven is currently posting corona-style cooking instructions on the internet that have almost achieved cult status. The quantities and instructions are definitely not for fine motorists: a perverse amount of oil, then destroy the pan and bake until it looks cool. The clips are short and crunchy, the recipes are taken through in no time. Spiced with pointed insults, comparisons with the Corona crisis and dry comments. Because hearty laughter fills the heart.

 Kolariks Luftburg
Kolarik’s Ham Hock
Granted, it's not quite what we usually eat. But after a few weeks at home, we notice some strange cravings. Like those for the crispy barbecue ham hock from Prater veteran Kolarik. This – an only this – is what the Luftburg delivers to all who want a touch of beer garden flair in their #stayhome hermitage on Sunday. You can also order the classic side dishes such as coleslaw, pepperoni, pickles and pretzels to go with your organic pickled ham hock. And of course a decent beer ;-) Such a ham hock is enough for two to three persons, you have to order the day before until 17:00.

 Iss mich
Eat me!
Here a little crooked, over there a dent. So what? The delivery service “Iss mich!” only uses vegetables for cooking that haven’t made it into the stores because they don’t comply to the norm. But these precious foods taste just as good and are used to make soups and stews with 100% organic quality. There are meals for vegans and meat eaters, potato goulash with tofu, as well as Morocco chicken with lemon pickle. Filled in jars, the meals also keep in the fridge. Deliveries are always made on Mondays and Thursdays on a cargo bike. Really cool and sensible.

Asparagus from the Mühl farm
The best detoxification cure in spring is to eat asparagus. If you want a very special asparagus, you now have to go to the outskirts of the town to Aderklaa. The secret tip is called: Mühl Farm. Despite Corona, asparagus is picked here every day – and each day, even on Sundays and holidays, you can buy it fresh in the beautiful farm shop. Of course with mask and a baby elephant distance. (For connoisseurs: this year the farm shop can only be reached from backwards.) There are both green and white ones, and despite the outstanding taste, the price here is highly gratifying.

Community Cooking
Cooking and eating alone is getting boring? Alright, there's a cure for that too. Rather than from the Brotfabrik, Caritas' Community Cooking now comes into your own kitchen as an online format via Zoom. During the virtual "Kitchen Stories", people cook, eat and chat together. The theme of the cooking lesson is pre-set, the matching dish can be chosen freely. Anyone who wants to take part can register by e-mail and receive all the information. Even those who just want to watch and get inspired are welcome. What matters is that many different people come together.

 CupCakes Wien
CupCakes Wien
These little cakes are so pretty that you don't even want to bite into them. That’s not surprising though, considering they’re made by Renate Gruber, Austria’s first professional cake designer. She combines the beautiful with the delicious: decadent toppings like creamy berry mixtures or fluffy chocolate mousse, the base is a sponge made of nutty buckwheat, vanilla or carrot. The bestseller is the Unicorn Cupcake with looots of edible glitter. These little works of art are currently only baked per order. Those who order until 17:00 can come pick it up the next day.

 Knödel Manufaktur
Knödelmanufaktur delivers
Like in granny’s kitchen, that’s what it should taste like, so with lots of love then. We are not allowed to visit her at the moment, but the Knödelmanufaktur comes very close. The hand-rolled dumplings are made of potato dough, sweetly filled with nougat, Apfelstrudel or poppy seed. The spicy variants with chilli cheeses and smoked meat are hearty. To prevent the round things from falling apart, they are delivered lukewarm. You can order by phone (the mailbox is often already full) or by online form for the next day. Deliveries are then made twice a day. The minimum order value varies depending on the distance.

 Steirereck
Home visit from Steirereck
You shouldn’t say it out loud, but the quarantine does have some advantages as well. Even gourmet-wise. While you can usually not just easily afford the prices of the highest decorated and best restaurant in Austria – the Steirereck at Stadtpark – everything is different during the Corona era. At Steirereck, cooking continues – but now "into the glass". The Reitbauers want to continue to take goods from their suppliers and produce wonderful things that can be warmed up: wolf organic fish in a jar or rhubarb pie. Orders until 13:00 o'clock are delivered the same day. Food at gourmet level – at moderate prices!
