"Heya Girls!"
Well, ladies, are you already close to the pre-Christmas sugar high? Or are you already tired of the Viennese advent charm with Vanillekipferl, punch, and the never-changing presents? Luckily, there’s another way: more original, more fun, more multiculti! You can soak up a dash of African Christmas feeling at the African Christmas market on the weekend, for instance. They have much to admire and purchase there, from cheerfully patterned African textiles, fashion, and jewellery to artistic carvings. And the super-delicious African finger food reliably neutralises any possible sugar overdose. A Mexican Christmassy atmosphere can be found at the Don Bosco house from Friday to Sunday. With enchanting cribs and art exhibitions, food, and atmospheric Latino music. And finally, under Buddhist prayer flags, we’re Tibet-bound in the seventeenth district, advent-wise!
Wishing you a colourful week,
Your CitySpotterGirl

Pionierinnen – Heldinnen der Architektur
With the exception of fitted kitchen inventress Margarete Schütte-Lihotzky and Liane Zimbler, Austria’s first female architects are barely known. Ella Briggs-Baumfeld, for instance, was the first authorised architect, Helene Roth the first graduate engineer, and Interior designer Friedl Dicker-Brandeis enjoyed an education at Bauhaus. An exhibition opening today is now dedicated to these pioneers, whose different educational paths and life journeys all started in Vienna. You will get to know their biographies, plus they also present photos and a selection of their works.

 Reni Dobnig
Natural Cosmetics Workshop
Sweet idea for DIY-Christmas presents! At today’s workshop, you’ll be busy stirring, trying out fragrances, and mixing under the professional guidance of herbal educator Reni Dobnig – and at the end, everyone will have something self-made to give away as a present (or for keeping it yourself!). During a pleasant get-together, over tea and pie, you will produce 100% natural beauty products, like lip balm, a roll-on deodorant, or body lotion. In addition to that, you will learn interesting things on herbal medicine, like which herbs relieve joint pain or are good for the veins.

DoNation Charity Store
Donating money feels so much better than “just” spending money ;-) This is exactly what the temporary DoNation Charity shop in the pretty post office building at Rochusmarkt counts on: donation for goods. No matter if it’s brand fashion, shoes or handbags, jewellery or stationery – most of the stuff here comes from liquidations, from companies and private individuals. Current bargains in the high-price category: a Diane von Fürstenberg-dress for 100 € or Jimmy Choos for 250 € or Calvin Klein trousers for 70 €. All proceeds go to “Make a Wish” and the CS Hospiz Rennweg.

“Verschwört Euch!”
Eccentric “Early-Night-Show” at a quirky location: once a month the satire-collective HYDRA hosts a slightly different saloon at Meidlinger Häuserl in the Spitz area. Today’s event is about conspiracy theories and the refinements of fake news: how do I paint myself a Breitbart? Can I lie like a trooper? And how do I get these lies printed? From the Jewish aliens involved in 9/11 to Jörg Haider’s “accident”, this evening dares to thrust aside the Schnitzel a bit to see what hides beneath it. And a Schnitzel is also included in the entry fee, by the way ;-)

The stylish sun (and optical) glasses, used by stars such as Sandra Bullock and Ryan Gosling to hide behind, are up to 75% (squee!) off. Including many models from last year but also hip current ones with minor flaws. But in such a case, you may be generous and overlook a little scratch ;-)

Three women who all work with their hands will come together today for one afternoon at Cora K. Hiebinger’s medical practice. Conchita Birthday Special
In Germany, all Conchita-concerts have been cancelled by the organiser, but we don’t care about that ;-) We love our likeable Song Contest-magical creature! Today, Conchita celebrates her 30th birthday with a concert at MuseumsQuartier and (for whatever reason, and this we don’t understand, either) there are still tickets available! After her album “From Vienna With Love” with the Vienna Symphony Orchestra, she is now touring with her band and belts out her favourite cover songs as well as parts from the orchestra programme, including hits like “Heroes” or “Rise like a Phoenix”.

Sigrid Horn + Bernhard Eder
A new big voice, as clear as a bell and powerful! Sigrid Horn, born in Mostviertel, sings in a dialect that’s hard to classify and accompanies herself on the ukulele or the piano. Fascinating artsy dialect (pop) songs, often with devastating depth, other times with surprising lightness. Another very fine sound comes from Bernhard Eder who will also perform at today’s “Musikalischer Adventkalender” at Schubert Theater. The busy-bee Viennese-by-choice will play a selection from his albums “Nonsleeper” and “Post breakup Coffee” as well as his latest cover versions.

Annabel’s Vienna
Whoa, there will be no shortage of wonder women, female advertisers and communication pros here ;-) With “Annabel’s” at the former café Griensteidl, the well-connected PR-agency boss Annabel Loebell will realise her dream of her own bar, even if it’s just for three weeks. “Classic drinks, perfect mood, good talks”, that’s the plan. Optically it’s appealing as well, from vintage pharmacy counter as bar above shiny light sculptures to the golden DJ counter with opulent flower décor. And the drinks are mixed by a pro, namely “Liquid Market” organiser Bert Jachmann.

this human world
12 Festival days and more than 90 feature-, documentary- and animation films in 4 cinemas: once again, the festival “this human world” shines a light on human rights cinematically. And as usual, it does so without a wagging finger but rather in a humorous, exciting and upsetting way. Today’s International Day of Human Rights already marks the film marathon’s finale, among others they show “The Queen of Ireland”, a portrait of world-famous drag queen Panti Bliss, or the documentary “A Dark Place” illustrating the online safety of female journalists.

  Erisy Watt
Erisy Watt
Really nice music by one of America’s shining lights! Erisy Watt is a young, delightful song-maker from Nashville with a fantastic voice. Her understated, natural sound, a mix of folk and soul, reminds you a bit of Joni Mitchell sometimes and other times more of Norah Jones, and is characterised by her adventures and the time that she spent in California, Thailand, and Indonesia. Together with her guitarist Jeremy Ferrara and her new record “Foolish Things”, the charming singer will once again give a concert in Vienna today. Check it out here.

Rabtaldirndln: Böse Frauen
What turns people who have dedicated themselves to taking care of the sick into angels of death? The new play of the theatre group “Rabtaldirndln” is based on the real series of murders committed by nurses at the hospital Lainz, who killed more than two hundred patients between the years 1983 and 1989. The theatre performance reviews the case in a brutally feminist way and tries the “evil women” with merciless consequence. In the dock are the lust for the power of ruling over death and the simultaneous impotence of the nursing personnel. Fascinating.

Winter ice cream at Anton’s Tafel
Good News for ice-princesses! Not all ice cream parlours leave their faithful sweet-toothed customers to twist in the wind in front of closed doors in winter, Anton Rusnak from “Antons Tafel” in Ober St. Veit has even come up with a special: together with his wife Irina, he creates delicious Christmassy flavours like cinnamon, almond biscuits or gingerbread. On pre-order, you can even get all ice cream flavours in the (tree-trunk) form of the French Christmas classic “yule log”. This would actually make for a wonderfully simple dessert for the family Christmas dinner!

The jostle in the adorably little lingerie shop “amour fou” on Barnabitengasse was often considerable. A second changing cubicle was missing in particular. Lingerie fairy Astrid Bleier has now found one, sort of – she has simply opened a second shop in the city. It’s not much bigger, either, but offers enough space for heaps of beautiful, sustainably produced lingerie. New are the captivating lace bralettes by New Zealand label „lonely”, for instance, or the London fancy silk sleep-wear label “Hesper Fox”. “Körbchen” bras made in Vienna are part of the assortment as well.
