"Heya Girls!"
I would say male co-terrestrials are going to have quite a tough time in Vienna this week. First, the brilliant-feminist Rrrriot Festival is sweeping the city and bringing a huge load of exceptional events to Vienna in its wake! For example the Drag Queen tour “Frauen, die gegen den Strom schwimmen” (women who swim against the tide) at the Museum of Fine Arts, the feminist breakfast in Margarete Schütte-Lihotzky’s infamous Frankfurt kitchen at MAK, doing magic spells at the Hotel am Brillantengrund (you have to wear black!), Bianca Taschl’s healing herbs workshop for women or the meeting of “Female Founders”, for female company founders. And since that isn’t enough yet, there is also the Business Riot Conference, Austria’s biggest conference on women’s issues, the job market & entrepreneurship with a myriad of career talks, super practical workshops, and networking meetings. And it’s women only!

Wishing you a wild week,
Your CitySpotterGirl

Local Heroes Pop Store at ROEE
There is a lot of space in the new flagship store of Austro-fashion label ROEE. Which is why designer Rene Pomberger now regularly invites other creative Local Heroes to move into his hip store temporarily. Currently, it’s the pretty ceramic birds from Thomas Poganitsch that find themselves there, plus the beautiful china by Hollyaroh, bags by young label SO LCH LD CLOTHING, or stylish Holland-design by Puik. And ROEE still has some sale bargains from the current winter collection to offer – since spring is apparently a long time in the coming.

FrauenFilmTage
Women are strong, funny, brutal, lovely, and yes, contradictory too sometimes! You can go see for yourself now at the FrauenFilmTage – in the truest sense of the word. A number of international female film geniuses can be seen in front of and behind the camera. Today, we commemorate Mexican author Rosario Castellanos from the 50s with The Eternal Feminine. The Latin American special tells stories about sex work (Alanis) or a mother-daughter-relationship in the rainforest (Amazona). Powerful films, debuts, talks, and guests! And definitely no groping on the casting couch ;-)

Belvedere: Open Friday
Sometimes, it just needs a change to shed new light on the well-established! Which is probably why the smart minds at Belvedere decided to redisplay their permanent collection. Several thousands of works from eight centuries were examined, taken from the depot, and rearranged. And the result is definitely surprising! At today’s Open Friday, as many as six free guided tours let you enjoy new perspectives and insights. For instance Schieles’s works at “Skandalkunst?!”, Frueauf’s worldview and artistic approach during “Im Norden viel Neues”, or Klimt’s art at “Geburt der Moderne”. From 18:00.

Pop Up: 48 Hours
Usually, the Munich-based online gallery vogelARTedition gets their contemporary wonder-works to men, women, and various walls online. But now it has ventured into the real world and has come to Vienna with a fine selection of strictly limited artist-editions. For 48 hours in Schleifmühlgasse 3. With them, they brought brightly coloured marble tops by Philipp Messner, futuristic “Infinitive Curve”-prints by Brigitte Kowanz, or fluorescent mini-steles by Regine Schuhmann. The latter in particular are really ingenious! Both the names and the art works are nothing to sneeze at!

Not everything has to be hip all the time. Luckily in Vienna, there are several traditional manufactories that have been putting their mark on the city for generations with their beautiful craftsmanship: Lobmeyr, Augarten, Wiener Silber Manufactur … Five of these Viennese factories are now having a three-day sale! With fancy vases, crystal chandeliers, and delightful tableware 30%, 50% or even 70% off! Among the already mentioned, R. Horn is also represented with premium (travel) bags and accessories as well as Zur Schwäbischen Jungfrau with heavenly bed & table linen. Super pretty!

Lacto-Fermentation for Beginners
Umeboshi, Natto, Kimchi – pickled food in all its variety is slowly but surely conquering Viennese restaurants and gourmet hearts. Lacto-fermentation of fruits and vegetable is indeed one of the oldest and simplest and also tastiest ways to conserve food in the world! Today, chef and food trendsetter Ulrich Wolfger from Blub shows in his beginner’s class how malolactic fermentation works exactly and what types of vegetables can be cured that way. Three hotchpotch-meals will be cooked, four will be taken home in pretty glasses. Tasting included.

Salut Salon
Yes, love is a long runner! The four Hamburg ladies of the quartet „Salut Salon“ couldn’t agree more, but they dare to explore this evergreen topic, anyway. The charming musicians are exploring the topic via musical saws in love duets, give a crime-medley, satirise love songs by Marilyn Monroe and Herbert Grönemeyer, or blow you away with tunes by Astor Piazzolla, Sergej Prokofjew and Cole Porter. The ECHO award winners humorously and with musical virtuosity play and sing their way across genre boarders – and that’s pretty grand! Listen in here.

If there’s anyone who knows contemporary dance, it’s Vienna native and choreographer Saskia Hölbling. The latter are being brought to life and finished off by four dancers in her new piece “Things”. Sunrise Avenue
Alright, fine. CitySpotterGirl is into Samu! And she’s not alone because the cute Finn has no trouble filling Stadthalle for his concert today ;-) His popularity as a “Voice Of Germany”-coach certainly helps him with that – but that doesn’t mean the songs of the tall blonde with the charming wit aren’t worth listening to as well! Kafka mit Flügeln
After three years of writing and two wild summers in Kirgistan, author and part-time CitySpotterGirl Daniela Emminger is now back with her new novel! “Kafka mit Flügeln” (Kafka with wings) is the name of the splendid adventurous love story, in which the Buchpreis-nominated writer captured the spiritual kinship between “dill-girl” Sezim and “chervil-boy” Samat. But there are also mutated butterfly-politicians, explosive bonsai Trojans, and Kirgiz quirks that fell into her trap. Today, she does a live reading and chats about living in a yurt, mare’s milk, and Kökbörö. Fun!

Ganymed Nature
Wow! The Museum of Fine Arts is being flooded, snowed in, dug over – metaphorically speaking, of course ;-) Because rough nature is moving into the picture gallery for the Ganymed spectacle. Old masters like Titian, Rubens and others are being catapulted into the present and completely re-vitalised thanks to bizarrely beautiful musical, literature & dance orchestrations. For example the painting “Lustvoller Graben”, that highlights the allegory of transience or the “Man at the Window” where you can practically hear the snow whisper. And absolutely don’t miss “The Last Day”-photo series at Bassanosaal!

Ferrari Pasticceria Caffe
The chef is from Trieste – which might just as well be the great Pisticceria’s home too. But it’s not, it’s conveniently located right next to Kärntner Straße. Which is a big advantage since the confectionary looks really neat with its dark furniture and the prominent lamps, but most importantly, its display case is full of the most wonderful mini-cakes. Chocolate balls with nut filling, raspberries on cream and real Triestine Potizza. Everything here is home-made (even the marzipan is self-made), and they even cook a little for lunch.
