"Heya Girls!"
Normally, your favourite newsletter only deals with the most current topics – the best events of the coming week. But today we are talking about a journey back in time. With the help of VR (Virtual Reality) glasses and quite impressive 360° animations, you can travel into Vienna's past and experience it up close. The 2-hour city tours by “VR Tours” make it possible. You put on a pair of glasses and every time you move your head, the virtual space you are in moves with you. So you can turn around your own axis and take a close look at the artificial world all around you. This means, for example, that you are in the middle of a 15th century Easter procession in front of the Stephansdom. Or experiencing the 1920s in front of the Staatsoper. And if you walk to the Hofburg, you will of course meet Empress Sisi and cheering people at Heldenplatz. Between the individual stops, a guide or the audio device explain the historical background of the scenes and exciting facts. Truly: we've never seen the city like this before!

Wishing you an innovative week,
Your CitySpotterGirl

Art Austria Highlights
In 1908, the “Art Show” took place on the grounds of today's Eislaufverein on the occasion of Emperor Franz Josef's 60th anniversary on the throne. Organised by Gustav Klimt, Josef Hoffmann and other luminaries, it’s today considered a groundbreaking event of Viennese modernism. Klimt first presented his “Kiss” publicly there. This weekend it's all about art again at the historic site. A huge tent is erected on the ice rink: At the “Art Austria” almost 30 local galleries are exhibiting – paintings by Maria Lassnig can be seen as well as Nitsch and Hundertwasser.

Tini Trampler and the Playbackdolls
“Flamingos have pleasure too!” The Playbackdolls are known for their lively and often political songs that “lead to spiritual rebellions with heart, imagination and poetry”. The changeable chanteuse Tini Trampler and her band make Austro-pop that is a little different: danceable theremin sounds, lots of charm and a Tom Waits electric guitar now and then. Today they present their 5th album “Chansons 2084” – with witty melodies off the mainstream and their danceable inventory of a vast musical fund. Sometimes opulent and minimalistic, then stormy and tender – and always played with dedication.

2 x Flea Market
Today we’re going flausching! If you're wondering what that is, here's the mathematical formula: Flohmarkt + Tausch (swap) = Flausch. At the Nachbarschaftszentrum today, there are cool vintage and retro treasures to buy and super second-hand snappers to swap. Not only is it fun, but it also helps protect the climate. If you're more into classic jumble shopping, you can stroll through the numerous courtyards in the 20th district and look for second-hand unique pieces. And since shopping can be quite exhausting, there are also little snacks and refreshments.

A sand mandala is created
This week's quietest event: two Tibetan monks from the Buddhist Choede Monastery in Mustang, a remote region in Nepal, are currently visiting Vienna. They want to raise funds for their monastery school. That’s why they will spend eight days building a sand mandala – the work of art, made of coloured sand scattered on the ground with millimetre precision, will be created at Yak + Yeti. And everyone can watch. The production of the filigree works of art is a form of meditation for the monks; when the mandala is finished, it will be destroyed. Today there are also lectures and a dinner.

 Erlöserkirche am Schüttel
The organ festival
Organ concerts don’t usually give CitySpotterGirl’s ears much thrill. This one, however, is pretty cool: On the occasion of the 10th birthday of the Paulus organ in the Kirche am Schüttel, there's a day of hurly-burly. Classical music concerts with pieces by Bach, Johann Nepomuk David and Dietrich Buxtehude, improvisations, organ tours and silent film accompaniment. Everything, so to speak, that awakens the instrument from its sacred slumber! For the little hunger in between, schnitzel and cake will be served quite unpretentiously. A rather fitting cultural-culinary duo for Sunday.

Yoga under the stars
Pilates, yoga, tai chi – in Corona times, when you got such a bad case of cabin fever that you even started doing sports, pretty much everything was tried out. But now, if you're in the mood for something really special, go to the planetarium for yoga. Under the most beautiful night sky in the city (thanks to the latest technology, every possible constellation of stars can be recreated here), you can practice your tadasanas, phalahakas and pranayamas, letting your gaze wander into the infinite expanse of space. Even the moon salutation takes on a whole new meaning here...

Cinerama & The bigger Picture
“This is Cinerama!” These words heralded a new era in cinema culture in September 1952. From 1961 onwards, the Gartenbaukino was the only Austrian cinema that could play the new XXL film format with simulated 3D effect. To mark its “5 days of cinematic magic”, Vienna's last large single-screen cinema revives big cinema classics. The highlight: “Windjammer”. The adventure documentary about 50 teenage boys who embark on a ship voyage on Christopher Columbus' route to the New World ran for 37 (!) weeks straight in Vienna in 1961. So it's high time for a reunion!

Night tour at the zoo
Unfortunately, it's getting dark earlier and earlier now. It's a bit depressing, but it also has its advantages: like the night tour at the zoo starting earlier than in summer, for example. When all the visitors have left the zoo, you stalk in a small group through the dark realm of sleeping and nocturnal zoo animals – equipped with Swarovski night-vision devices and under qualified supervision. Among other things, you will make the acquaintance of Egyptian fruit bats that sail through the air like ghosts, while passing though the hippo house.

Crime Novel Night
Lots of legal assassinating and murdering is happening again in Vienna tonight – only in the literary sense, of course. Almost 40 “grandmasters of horror” participate in the legendary Crime Novel Night to read from their current novels. Crime scenes can be found at various cafés, but also at Zentralfriedhof or on a ship. For example, Eva Rossmann takes care of a murdered centenarian on the MS Kaiserin Elisabeth, Sabina Naber reads from “leopoldstadt” and in Fredi's Cafe Lukas Pellmann lets listeners check out his new book “Tod am Neusiedlersee”. Bargains at Refished
Sissi Vogler likes to cast her net for really pretty (and above all sustainable) fashion ideas. On her trip to Cambodia, she made a big catch. Inspired by the colourful fish food bags and cement sacks that simply end up in the rubbish after use, Sissi designed her first collection: handbags and backpacks made from the colourful utility sacks. On the occasion of the shop’s 10th birthday, the practical items are also available in a limited collection made of recycled tweed fabric – in French chic. Plus: you can shop with a discount of 10 percent during the whole month of October!

Please Right Back
Graphic novels on stage – that's something unusual. The British theatre company “1927”, winner of several awards, shows how it can be done. The story of an absent father who writes to his children from prison while they think he is on an adventure trip is set against an animated stage set. This consists of over 500 individual digital elements that are played live as graphic novel drawings. The result: pure fascination by the blurring of image and text, acting and film, reality and animation. Thrills pretty much everyone from 8 to 108.
