"Heya Girls!"
May I make a wish? I wish for many people in a good mood at Phorusgasse on Saturday afternoon. In case you don’t know this centre of the world: it’s the little street where you can find the office of your favourite newsletter. And since we currently have the “Wanderbäume” and some other green stuff in front of our house, I’m giving a street party, together with some dear neighbours. And it’s going to be quite something! Waiting for you are: Vienna’s first vintage flowerpot market (pots, garden furniture and plant accessories), some upcycling with Regina Lustig, a flower-crowns-workshop (because we’re girls, after all ;-), a cake buffet, a plant swapping market and – drum roll – Vienna’s first jam competition. Everybody can bring self-made jams, there will be fine prizes. Oh, and: food, workshops and plants are free, chatting and feeling good, too. Well, what do you say? You will all be coming? Well then, a heartfelt welcome!

Wishing you a cheerful week,
You CitySpotterGirl

 wiener konfektion
Stock Sale at wiener konfektion
When Maria Fürnkranz-Fielhauer receives a package from Tokyo, fashionistas may start rejoicing. For the things that the fashion designer regularly creates from original silk kimonos from former geishas are simply enchanting! But her classic dresses and skirts are all the rage, too – and, above all, timelessly beautiful and not subject to any fashion frippery. Now they clear the stock: pieces of previous collections have to go just as well as prototypes and exhibition items. Meaning from today until Saturday prices melt like glaciers. The designer pieces can be had from 35€!

 Gankovska, Galerie Hilger
Vienna City Gallery Walk
Today you have to decide: either strolling around lazily or really go for speed. Either watch a few gems or work through the entire tour. Because at the Vienna City Gallery Walk, 48 galleries present a versatile programme today with numerous exhibitions openings and guided art tours with the motto “Where are the hidden treasures?”. Most of the galleries are situated in the inner city, but the Ankerbrotfabrik and the Kunsträume in the second and fourth district are joining in as well. It all starts at 16:00 – and there is much to discover!

Elephant Memory Band
50 years of Woodstock! Not that we were there ;-) But the legendary festival in upstate New York provided the soundtrack of an entire generation and left its mark on the music world as well as on a socio-political level. This is why musician Martin Schuster assembles some of the best musicians from Waldviertel under the name Elephant Memory Band to meld pop and rock classics by Jefferson Airplane, Jimi Hendrix, The Who and Janis Joplin into an entertaining programme. Listen in here. And yes, a bit of 1969 spirit might do us some good today, too!

Street.Life.Photography
The city as photo motif: since yesterday the biggest Street Photography exhibition there ever was in Austria is running at the Kunst Haus Wien. And they have assembled all icons from seven decades there! From Diane Arbus and Robert Frank to Lee Friedlander and Martin Parr – with more than 200 works the exhibition features the upheavals and aesthetic developments of street photography from the 1930s to the present. International classics meet young artists like Lies Macula, analogue meets digital, black-and-white meets colour. Brilliant!

Women and Financial Planning
Many women successfully start their career. But then come baby breaks, part-time work, career setbacks, a divorce rate of over 40% – and female old-age poverty is predestined. Financial losses often arise from quite typical women’s biographies and can’t be regained anymore. Economist Marietta Babos tells us what women can do about that during the Business Breakfast at the Club alpha today. During the practical lecture, she introduces her project “Damensache”: she shares knowledge that helps women lead financially self-determined and safe lives.

Wienwoche: Bitches & Witches
Everything is different at the Wienwoche: because the festival will be feminist this year! The curators understand Bitches & Witches as a call for radical queer-feminist social criticism of the status quo in which political and social repression have become the norm. For ten days Wienwoche celebrates all those bitches that fight the current political and social power- and dominance structures. And those who pillory the politics of suppression and marginalisation. The opening is today with music (Angel Ho!) and performance!

Theaterfest at Volkstheater
Some hefty brouhaha from the understage to the canteen! On the occasion of its 130th birthday, the Volkstheater allows visitors to all corners of the house today. In rapid succession, they offer stage tours with fascinating technology demonstrations and a visit to the fly gallery. Artists as well as employees from make-up, props and costume give insights into their working areas and the rehearsal routine. All this is followed by a preview-show with a foretaste of almost all the plays of the upcoming season. And to finish it off, they celebrate at Rote Bar. Congratulations, old house!

Kunst am Zaun
It gets colourful and creative today at Börseviertel because Börsepark is turned into an open-air museum for a day. Around 60 artists present their works along a site fence that has been put up around the park specifically for this purpose, featuring everything from aquarelles to abstract paintings and photography – makes 237 metres of art market! So you can take a nice stroll through the park, meet artists, check out art, buy art and win art. The open-air exhibition is accompanied by music and dance. The street-food comes from Churros Don Diego, Risotto Box and the Hilton Vienna. Really cool stuff!

Street Life Festival
The plan: before it gets cold and ugly outside again, we’ll all get out once more and celebrate life in the street! The Babenberger street is turned into a huge stage and then things are going to get wild for the weekend. With concerts and a disco, a spectacular BMX-show and colourful street art. You can shop at the well-stocked Festival Market, artistically and design-wise. For eating you get street food (duh!), and the free workshops like sewing organic fashion or bike check surely provide the right thing for everyone. Except for peace and quiet – which can be found afterwards on the couch at home ;-)

Open House
Now we’re allowed to be shamelessly snoopy again! Allowed to stick our noses into the homes of strangers and knock on strangers’ doors unannounced. Because on the weekend, 69 (often private) buildings that aren’t usually accessible open their gates – and grant us a peek behind their walls. The whole thing is called “Open House Wien”, it’s a yearly architecture project originating in London that takes place in 30 cities from New York to Tel Aviv. This year, for instance, you can visit the Billrothhaus with its splendid library, the snail manufactory Gugumuck and the Dominican monastery.

Bryan Benner
He has a voice that smoothly makes its way into your ear canal only to never leave again. Bryan Benner, an American baritone and classically trained guitarist, has been living in Vienna as a singer/songwriter for a couple of years now. In high spirits, with humour and timbre, he sings about love, adventure, sex and freedom. And tonight, there’s a twofold celebration since he has managed to get two of his albums financed via crowdfunding. First, the solo album „The Modern Man, The Modern Muse” is introduced, then the wonderful „ Giniginamar” with band follows.

Clemens G. Arvay: Biophilia in the city
As a big fan of the “Biophilia”-books, CitySpotterGirl is particularly delighted about this: in our tiny park around the corner of the office, the well-known biologist and bestseller author Clemens G. Arvay talks about the healing power of trees today. Which, by the way, has nothing to do with esoterism but concerns the new interdisciplinary field of eco-psychosomatics. Trees and nature are the best remedies against civilisation ailments like stress and heart diseases. Under trees, Arvay explains how forest bathing in the city works and how our cities of the future might look like. Free entry!

 Sylvana, Demon or Diva
Sisters Lumière
120 years ago the brothers Lumière invented cinema, with a 37 second long film. Since then, the cinema has become much louder and more colourful – and more female. That’s why a new series of films is called Sisters Lumière which will serve new and old gems away from the male gaze every month from today at Stadtkino. It’s going to be edgy, colourful and political – and that’s exactly how it starts with the first film. “Sylvana, Demon or Diva” accompanies former TV host Sylvana Simons, a Surinam native, during her political campaign for the Amsterdam city parliament.  Wolfgang Beltracchi
Kairos.
Wolfgang Beltracchi is the best-known art forger of our time. His extraordinary ability to pick up the painting style of various artists brought him to jail but also made him world-famous. In an unusual exhibition he now takes a new look at the history of art. The most important periods and art trends of Europe are examined using oeuvres in the style of one style-defining artist respectively – which were not painted by the artists, though! It’s Beltracchi who created the works in the manner of painting of Max Beckmann, Caravaggio, Goya, van Gogh & co.  Brilliant!

100 billion helpers for losing weight
The facts are disturbing: according to the WHO around 2 billion adults worldwide are overweight. However, the title gives away that this evening will still be funny: for the “Akademie des Bauchgefühls”, Johannes Blamauer gives a talk on the “100 billion helpers for losing weight”. He means gut bacteria and their considerable influence on the metabolism. This means some people can exercise as much as they want, but without a healthy intestinal flora they won’t succeed in losing any kilos. After the lecture they offer consultation as well.

The unusual Saint Charles pharmacy in Gumpendorfer Straße is well known. But you never notice how many products these creative people produce themselves there. It’s a damn lot!  Pumpui
Pumpui
Colourful, urban and full to bursting: nobody seems to mind that the new Pumpui is situated at a boring place in the third district. But the “Thai canteen” is just really pretty. Fat buddhas sit wittily in the middle of the cool ambience, the service team members wear T-shirts that say “Wok in progress” and the colourful pom-pom necklaces create a good mood as well. The menu is very down-to-earth as well: Pad Krapow with minced meat is super damn spicy, just like the Yam Hed glass noodles salad. Even the fried rice with vegetables doesn’t taste mainstream here.
