"Heya Girls!"
The summit for dance enthusiasts is currently taking place in Vienna: The “ImPulsTanz” festival is getting the whole city moving. In addition to countless performances by dance stars (see newsletter below on Wednesday), us normies can also join in. The free "Public Moves" dance classes are bigger than ever, with 8 classes taking place every day at 6 different locations, always outdoors. The choice is huge and participation is open to everyone. You can learn line dancing and vogueing, practise flamenco steps with beautiful new flamenco R'n'B music in the MuseumsQuartier or get a taste of contemporary dance. African dance, hip hop and Bollywood are also on offer. Those who want to move more mindfully can do Feldenkrais at the Hirschstetten swimming pond. And if you want to be really hip, you can learn Korean K-Pop choreography (photo). As I said: no previous experience is necessary and all ages and levels are welcome. Swing it, baby!

Wishing you a moving week,

Frau Thomas & Herr Martin
When Tom Neuwirth, aka Conchita Wurst, takes to the stage, it's already smashing. For his show “Darf's ein bisserl mehr sein?” the show diva has enlisted his best friend Martin Zerza. As Frau Thomas and Herr Martin, the two have composed sharp-tongued songs and included bizarre-wicked chansons as covers. Together with their band, which they affectionately call “Pralinen”, they offer a show with chansons, Wienerlied, Latin, swing, jazz and hits, paired with humorous and thought-provoking lyrics – all true to the motto “two hours on your ears, recalled for many years!”.

Hannah Höch: Assembled Worlds
Looks like it's from a hip art boutique, but some of it is almost 100 years old! Hannah Höch is regarded as the co-inventor of collage and photomontage and was the only woman to hold her own in the circle of Berlin Dadaists in the 1920s. Equipped with glue and scissors, she explored the effect of images in her art in an ironic and sharp-sighted way. The current exhibition at the Lower Belvedere shows 80 photomontages as well as paintings, drawings, prints and archival material from the estate of this pioneering thinker – highly topical and truly beautiful!

Film Festival frame[o]ut
When the MQ courtyard isn't filled with sound from the O-Töne festival, it simply transforms into a cool open-air cinema. Every Friday and Saturday, frame[o]ut presents films that prefer to get out of line rather than be ordinary and run-of-the-mill. In keeping with the “MQ goes Green” initiative, the motto “garden” was chosen for this year's festival edition. The green oases in the film works are not just physical places, they reflect identities, dreams and visions. Today, the documentary film “Knit's Island” flickers across the screen – in bad weather, it's off to Arena 21!

Seafood Boil at Bootshaus
There's only one thing to do in this heat: escape to the water. Which is especially nice at the Bootshaus on the Old Danube right now. For one thing, the large terrace is partly on and partly by the water, so there's always a cool breeze, and for another, there's a great summer programme on offer. Today, lovers of maritime delights can feast on the popular one-pot dish from the southern states, for instance: freshly grilled prawns, Louisiana crayfish, mussels, spicy sausage, corn on the cob, potato varieties and veggies with warm, spicy Cajun butter. And traditionally eaten with your hands – yummy!

Brunch Society at Ziizuu
Sometimes, breakfast is postponed until lunchtime and then what is called brunch turns into a kind of party dinner in the afternoon – at least that's the case today at Ziizuu. The restaurant near the university is transformed into a mystical place where an exclusive sushi buffet, a sweet bar, cocktails and shots await party-happy gourmets true to the motto “dark, mysterious, and sexy”. A red carpet will lead you into the fortress of temptation – and when the feast is over, the after-party will continue. There are worse things to do with a Saturday afternoon ...

Summer Ice Skating
Ice ice baby! Yes, we really can't get enough of it in the current heatwave. And when even the Danube water starts feeling like a warm bathtub, there's only one way out: off to the EisStadthalle! This is where one of Vienna's only truly refreshing hideaways is currently located. Every Tuesday in the middle of summer, what is usually a winter sports hotspot invites you to go ice skating or ice dancing. And every Saturday (like today) until mid-October, you can also skate through the cold rink at a relaxed ice disco. Oh, that feels good...

Full moon boat ride at Old Danube
Finally there’s something for the romantics among us – here you can fully indulge in your feelings and take a boat ride at the Old Danube in the evening air and under the full moon. The boat hirers will extend their opening hours so you may sail to the most romantic places. Hopefully in charming company and definitely with a bottle of Prosecco because that is included in the price. Sailing boats and rowing boats, electric boats and pedalos are available for night-time excursions. A great way to cool off on the currently hot nights. Aloha oe!

Margarete Schütte-Lihotzky
Austria's first female architect, Margarete Schütte-Lihotzky, is best known for her “Frankfurt Kitchen”. Today's tour, however, focuses on the visionary's work in the settlers' movement. The tour leads to the most important stages of her work, starting at Friedensstadt, where she worked together with Adolf Loos, and continuing through the idyllic Hörndlwald forest to the Werkbund settlement, where she designed terraced houses at the invitation of Josef Frank. A wonderful insight into how Schütte-Lihotzky revolutionised architecture and living!

The Melon Hall at MQ
Juicy, fresh, crunchy, sweet! Of all the fruity contenders, watermelon is definitely our favourite on midsummer days. And certainly the one of restaurateur Paul Mitsch. Because he has created the Melon Hall at the MQ and from today he will be serving organic Italian watermelons of the “Anguria Reggiana IGP” variety – the only protected watermelon in Europe – for three weeks. The fruity dolce far niente treat is complemented by a sparkling Prosecco on tap or a Negroni Sbagliato. Tuesdays feature the finest Italo disco hits and Thursdays are Scopa nights!

Josefstädter Grätzltraum
Wow, exciting! If you see two conspicuously dressed curious people scurrying around in Josefstadt right now, it's because of the Grätzltraum project – an audio-literary experience of the district's neighbourhoods. The aim is to create a fantastical-utopian everyday life in the district through voice and text. Short stories written on the street are gradually collected into the “Josefstädter Grätzltraum”. Today, the Grätzltraum writing duo invites a limited number of participants to record their ideas in a pop-up studio. The extraordinary productions will then be presented in September!

Dada Masilo's Hamlet
After reinterpreting Romeo and Juliet, Carmen or Swan Lake, South African star choreographer Dada Masilo is now bringing the most eloquent of all Shakespeare's dramas to the stage. What makes Masilo's version of “Hamlet” so special is that she has several female roles played by men and male characters played by women. She herself embodies Ophelia, radically reducing the number of words and magically turning the weighty classic into a universally understandable play – or rather, a theatre performance with dance, song, violin and percussion!

Help, we’re trapped
Prescriptions, pill packets, hair clips and even wedding photos – all these things and more have been found as leftovers in the 1.5 million books that are borrowed and returned to the Main Library every year. Claudia Bitter, a librarian who also works as an artist, has been collecting and sorting these leftovers for more than 20 years. A comprehensive selection of the more than 8,000 finds will now be on display for the first time in the exhibition “Help, we’re trapped – From the world of found objects left behind in books” in the Main Library. Bastis Sandwich Bar
Does anyone know what a Rübine is? All I can say is: It's delicious! After starting with a pop-up, Bastian Weiler has now opened his “real” restaurant and it's dedicated exclusively to the invention of the 4th Earl of Sandwich. And in a really creative way: For the Rübine, the sandwich is filled with carrot ricotta, Chioggia beetroot and deep-fried rocket, while the Wingi comes with Korean fried chicken and cheddar. The ingredients are regional and seasonal, and many of the veggies are home-grown. And the bread is baked specially for Bastian. This makes fast food fun! And the stylish bar with its patterned tiles is also perfect for an after-work drink.
