"Heya Girls!"
It’s often said that women hide their light under a bushel, that they’re cautious, and that they don’t broadcast their success to the world. Well okay, I’ll do it right now then. I’m so proud! A few years ago, I founded a book publishing house – and on Monday, the 15th book was published! And every single book was written by women! Including the new one, of course, which presents Vienna as vegan capital of Austria. For the Viennese gastronomic culture is changing: In addition to Schnitzel huts and taverns, it’s more and more vegan/vegetarian and vegan-friendly restaurants that shape the urban image – from luxury restaurants to takeaway. The restaurant guide “selected Vienna” presents (in english and german) the nicest restaurants and the cosiest cafés that definitely (but not exclusively) offer vegan & vegetarian food. You can buy it now (read an extract here). Thank you for your loyalty and support! With your help I’ll publish another 100 books. At least ;-)

Wishing you a healthy week

 21er Haus
Erwin Wurm – performative sculptures
One of his famous “Fat Houses” has been standing at the south side of the Belvedere since the beginning of May and starting today, more of Erwin Wurm’s sculptures and art works can be seen in the 21er Haus. The majority of the displayed sculptures have been created specifically for this exhibition. For his series “House Attack”, for instance, the sculptor attacks models of buildings with which he has a personal relationship. He lies on top of his parental home and deforms it through his body weight, jumps off the Narrenturm (Fool’s Tower) or kicks a German bunker architecture. The opening is today!

 Hotel Daniel Vienna
Daniel Summernight BBQ
Barbecue, summer-punch & Co: you know summer has truly arrived in Vienna when Hotel Daniel proclaims “Grill up your Thursday” every Thursday night. The terrace and front yard are turned into a relaxing oasis (and mind you the Daniels know a thing or two about how to chill), the grill is fired up and apart from steak and chicken, there are also vegetables like aubergines and stuffed paprika. Besides, baked potatoes, pita bread and salads as well as homemade sauces are served. And all that in keeping with the motto “all you can eat”! Bad for the beach body but never mind ;-)

Life Ball Pop up-Store
After 2 years, it’s finally back: the Life Ball is on June 10! If you already want to get into the right mood for the flashiest night of the year, you should pay a visit to the newly opened Life Ball Pop up-Store in the ninth district! You’ll find great inspiration for this year’s motto “Recognize the Danger” focusing on the 1920s and 30s. Young designer Julia Lara has created some quirky costumes, in the Pop up-store of her atelier you’ll find complete outfits as well as odds and ends, ranging from feather boas to cigarette holders. So that many dangerously dressed birds of paradise can once again flock into City Hall ;-)

 Augarten
White Week at Augarten Porzellan
Founded in 1718, the Vienna Porcelain Manufactory Augarten is the second oldest in Europe. Then as now, every single piece is handmade – and a favourite of Royals worldwide. Now you can enjoy that royal feeling at a reduced rate: All Augarten shops are holding the so-called Weiße Woche (White Week) until June 3. During this time, some selective china pieces of the pure white line are 40 % off. White vases as well as tea sets of the “Mozart”-design, fully in retro-trend are also filter coffee pots or small white decorative boxes. Very stylish, very pretty!

Cut&Print
A creative evening in the inventive rooms of the Schraubenfabrik (a co-workingspace center): Today, Snipping Queen Helga Kusolitsch and letterpress-pro Schusterjunge run a merry snipping and printing event. The goal of the workshop: design your own pictures, make them into printing blocks out of cardboard or rubber and then duplicate them using a historic hand press. Everything is possible, from funny lettering to diverse patterns and figures. And there are no bounds to the use: as picture for the wall, give-away gift, greeting card, or as letter of invitation. Great!

Liebe hoch 16
Oidaaa! Now you can experience Romeo and Juliet in a different way, namely as Turkish-Austrian love story. In the course of the Wir sind Wien (We are Vienna)-festival aiming to encourage international understanding, the Brunnenmarkt will serve as scene for the Shakespeare play. Although – spoiler alert – with a happy ending. The rest is different too,  the lovers come from a Turkish and an Austrian butcher’s family, the lively dialogues were penned by shooting star Ibrahim Amir, the song texts by Austropop legend Wilfried and the raps by Esra Özmen. The preview is today!

Obsession
First things first: Jude Law is in the city! After all, he’s not just handsome and a Hollywood star, but he’s also been known to cut quite a fine figure on the stage as Hamlet or Henry V. Thanks to the Festwochen, you can see him in the leading part of the production “Obsession”. The stage adaption of Luchino Visconti’s ground-breaking feature film “The Postman Always Rings Twice” also has the power of an ancient Greek tragedy, full of love, passion and destruction. And of course the role of Gino, the attractive wastrel, really fits Jude. ;-) Today’s the last day!

  Velvet Elevator
Velvet Elevator
Retro-cult with powerful sound! Today, the 16-member film music orchestra Velvet Elevator supplies some lively big-band sound in the Theater am Spittelberg. The orchestra founded by Martin Ptak and Heinz Fallmann reinterprets in a jazzy and humorous way the film- and t-tracks of the 1060s and 70s, from “Breakfast at Tiffany’s” to “Goldfinger”. Today, they will dig particularly deep into their repertoire and it will be wonderfully melancholic! The musicians will be supported vocally by the not so quiet ladies Tini Kainrath, Caroline de Rooij und Sumitra. Brilliant!

Shiatsu in the Park
Weather permitting, this will be a weekly outdoor event every Sunday until September 10: relaxing Shiatsu sessions out in the fresh air in Augarten. Shi-atsu (Japanese) means ‘finger pressure’ and is a form of body work that helps dissolve blockages of the energy flow in a profound way. By gently applying pressure against the clothed body with thumbs or hands –as well as elbows, knees and feet – the meridians are stimulated. Our natural self-healing powers are thus activated and a sense of harmony is experienced. 15 min. for 18 €, 30 min. for 28 €.

puppet theatre festival
Puppet shows are only for kids? Nonsense! At the puppet theatre festival, they let the puppets dance for us grown-ups – and the show we get to see is incredibly creative! Today, the festival starts with the great revue “1000 Jahre Schuberttheater”, during which the audience watch from the stage and the show is being performed in the auditorium. Also worth seeing is the wacky juggling play “Pension” (with light bulb clubs!) and the dark-humoured puppet-séance “Eine kleine Topographie des Ungewissen” (a little topography of the unknown). At the end, the Schubert ensemble will tell us how they found their own inner puppets. Cool.

Try-out auction at the Dorotheum
Brief digression into the world of auctions: normally, you pay a buyer’s premium in addition to the highest bid, plus the statutory value-added tax for every piece you buy, which adds up to a total of 25 percent. But – good to know for auction-newbies: the Dorotheum regularly offers try-out auctions without any additional costs. For example today at Lugner City, though this time it’s not pieces of jewellery that are auctioned off (as it’s the case for most other try-out auctions) but smartphones and tablets. Opening price for an iPhone 7: 390 Euros! Here’s the catalogue.

At Night All is Quiet in Tehran
Four family members, four decades, four unforgettable voices: in her debut novel, German-born Shida Bazyar, whose parents once had to flee Iran, tells the story of a German-Iranian family. The captivating and densely written mosaic of family life begins in 1979 in Teheran and ends in the German present. The author thus processes the story of her own family, while also addressing current hot topics like fleeing one’s home and integration into society. Tonight, Shida Bazyar reads for the first time at Hauptbücherei, Sibylle Hamann hosts the event.

Cafe Cobenzl
Something has been going on at Cobenzl for a week!  Which is good because it gave CitySpotterGirl the opportunity to spend an evening high above the city, coming home filled with that happy having-taken-a-trip feeling. The run-down Rondo-Café and the castle have been evacuated and will be subject to interim use until its complete renovation in autumn: The organisers of Fete Imperial bring colour and a breath of fresh air into the old walls. The menu isn’t long (right now it’s mostly creative toast and sandwiches, fine coffee and pie), but it’s still nice. And the view is simply breath-taking!
