"Heya Girls!"
What’s going on when mothers turn into cats and trees put on boots to go on a walk? Exactly! The Tricky Women are in town. The only European film festival that exclusively dedicates itself to women’s cartoon film making this year presents more than 160 movies in the cinema Metro Kinokulturhaus – and makes pixels, dolls and clay figures dance across the screen. Modern Cinderellas and pioneers of the scene show really strong and authentic animation stuff: “Don’t tell Mom“ is a colourful sex education film from Japan, “War in Peace“ an East-West drama with a woman in between and the Hungarian flicker “Hobart” tells the story of a flying pig and other mysteries. In contrary to real films, animations don’t give a damn on logics and the laws of nature – if you are up for some phantasy, you should plan a short vacation in the cinema as of Thursday.

Wishing you a lovely week

Wake up and Dance
This is how a happy day starts: with free and cheerful dancing! And without complicated choreographies where less talented dancers give up after the third sequence of steps ;-) Dance instructor Aurelia Staub offers morning dance training exclusively for women where they can just shake to their hearts’ content! One time they shake themselves in a good mood to drum music, then they float through the room like elves to dreamy classical music. There are some individual set moves, but often people just improvise – always geared to the group’s needs. You can join in any time!

Luiza Margan | notwithstanding
Installing art in public space doesn’t always work without frictions. Luiza Margan, a young artist living in Vienna, dedicated her new exhibition “notwithstanding“ to this often conflict-laden topic. She approaches the dispute between consent and resistance with an installation composed of a video work and different objects. So she shows, for example, how her Mexican artist colleague Maya Santiago mounts sculptures of a traffic island – symbolic of one of many forms of spatial appropriation.

Offline Day
The CitySpotterGirl is offline then! Namely, behind thick monastery walls, in the middle of woods and meadows, completely without phone and Internet. The thought of this time-out alone immediately brings relieve. On the 8-hour-offline-day by the pedagogue and “silence expert” Silke Scharf we may be silent, meditate and silently discover our inner selves to our hearts’ content. There’ll be communal lunch and for the ultimate (deep) relaxation each day-hermit will be treated to a short massage. Do not wonder if the next newsletter appears later than usual :-)

MachArt: Lookbook and Vernissage
Even Karl Lagerfeld started at a young age and on a shoestring. The future graduates of the fashion school Herbststraße are in the same situation. Early birds should put out feelers, one of the 17 neo creative heads may be a true star of tomorrow! Crazy draisine race in the Prater
3, 2, 1 take-off – that’s the motto at the tracks of the traditional miniature railway in the Viennese Prater today. Venturous pilots take off in their self-constructed draisines and hope for a whooping and cheering audience! It’s not only about speed, but creativity is required as well when it comes to vehicle decoration and performance. If you feel like moving up and down the handle-pump-like lever yourself (which is true muscle work, by the way), just participate in the public drive. Admission is free, fun is guaranteed. And next year, we’ll participate ourselves ;-)

Chili & The Whalekillers
Who cares, the band gets a huge Iceland bonus from the outset, 'cause Icelandic music somehow always sounds Björk-beautiful and elf-charming ;-) The melodic Viennese part of the 5-people combo is also worth listening to! All in all, Chili & The Whalekillers make good mood pop, crazy psychedelic sound and dreamy indie folk. If you have no idea what this sounds like, listen here or pilgrim to the live concert at Chelsea tonight. It’s not without reason that their single “Turn” was number 3 in the Iceland charts in 2014. And they're handsome, too!

The Viennese Werkbund estate
Hardly anyone knows that 64 architectural gems of the 30s can be found in the middle of Lainz! 30 national and international architects (and one female one) committed and realised their modern living visions about family homes under the guidance of Josef Frank (yes, the textile master mind). For example, André Lurçat in Veitinger-Gasse 87 or Richard Neutra in Woinovich-Gasse 9. Today you get the chance to walk around the timelessly simple, highly functional and now privately occupied houses of the former show house estate.

"The taste of the world"
Great cause! Women living in women’s shelters often walked through hell. In order to recharge their batteries and gain new love of life, they often just need to do simple everyday tasks, such as communal cooking, eating or collecting recipes. The latter was done for the 1st women’s shelter cookbook, which now includes dishes from all over the world – from Danish Smørrebrød to Siberian Pelmenis. Top chefs like Lisl Wagner-Bacher and Stefanie Herkner added the culinary final touches. The book will be presented today: Everyone can join, but please register.

Celebration!
Party, Party! Who wants to join the birthday party? Be it on the dance floor or at the feast – Europe has been good at celebrating since the Late Middle Ages and today Vienna joins the celebration! The Museum of Art History celebrates its 125th anniversary and invites to a special exhibition: countless pieces were dug up, everything revolves around celebrating and being happy. Goya’s aristocratic youth is playing blind man’s buff, Bruegel’s dancing farmers raise a glass. And even Alexander McQueen participates with one of his fabulous, extravagant outfits. What a crowd!

„Familie Tót“
Shakespeare is probably turning in his grave, because in the new theatre play of the theatre association MAA all roles, even the male ones, are played by women. This fact alone makes it a friendly play, but the plot and the actresses are impressive as well. The cult tragic comedy by Istvan Örkeny tells the story of a major who needs to recover from war and settles down exactly with a family who wants to save their son from his company. Subservience meets cunning and trickery and in the end one question is raised: who pulls whose leg? With CopStories actress Claudia Kottal!

The World of caves in 3D
Today we are allowed to crawl away! Namely together with the Hungarian speleologist and photographer Csaba Egri who has worked underground for 20 years and now invites to a virtual journey into the most exciting caves of the world. Normally nobody (!) is allowed to enter them, since many of the most beautiful stalactite caves are under strict protection and not open to the public. Luckily, the fascinating rock formations, underground lakes and maybe even one or two bats are coming to light in the 3D slide show today. Jules Vernes would have been happy.

For more than 350 years a genuine Lent market was celebrated on the Calvary in Hernals. Unfortunately, this nostalgic-colourful funfair has belonged to the past since 2014. But at least it was turned into the Calvary festival – so, hide your sentimental feelings and join the fray! For almost three weeks, the Easterly decorated Calvary comes up with countless local-cultural events: concerts of Satu (tango meets folk) or the 16er Buam (Wienerlied), daily changing exhibitions in the artist tent and workshops on Easter decoration or “Bamkraxler” painting.

Lunch Break in the Bakery
The district around the chic design Hotel Daniel has evolved from a strange zone to a nice neighbourhood over the last few years – with the 21er Haus and the new railway station. The equally chic Bakery, which occupies the hotel's whole ground floor like a loft, invites tourists as well as Viennese people to chill, work (free W-Lan) and to eat, of course. As of now, lunch at the hotel can also be recommended: the new “lunch break” concept comes up with a new creative menu every day, from aubergine soup to miso loin of pork.
