"Heya Girls!"
I would actually like to complain a little bit about the freezing weather, but the truth is that it is kind of cool that winter finally feels like winter once again. And I found a simple solution to the whole freezing problem, a solution that also appeals to my inner couch potato: eating more. TCM has a healthier solution to it, though. According to the Traditional Chinese Medicine, strengthening you kidneys works best right now, because that is where our vitality is stored. You can revive your kidneys for example through 5 elements-Qigong exercises, like they are shown during the workshop at the Shambhala this Friday. Or through eating! At the next TCM-cooking meeting with nutritionist Sabine Dobesberger, the coldness is chased away with a 5-elements winter-lifeblood meal. The central theme of the collective cooking exercise is legumes, which are the perfect energy source for our kidneys and support them in strengthening our vitality. On the menu: lentil balls with ginger-walnut yogurt and azuki beans-chocolate cake. What do you say to that, dear inner couch potato?
Wishing you a warm week

 Daniel Richter
Daniel Richter
One of the greatest artists of our time is in Vienna for the first time with a big work exhibition: the Daniel Richter-exhibition “Lonely Old Slogans” starts today at the 21er Haus. The 1962 born German artist, who is also a professor at the Academy in Vienna, has been radically questioning the possibilities of painting for more than two decades. His often bright and colorful pictures show political, social and medial topics including anything from escape to pornography. Exhibited at the show are pieces ranging from the restless, abstract works of the 1990s to his youngest series, which is dedicated to erotic physicality.

Passionate music from Brittany will be brought to Vienna today by the enchanting singer Gwennyn. Her musical roots lie within the traditional Celtic music, which is also the reason why her songs always sound beautifully mystical. The language plays a big role as well – because Gwennyn mainly sings in Breton. Her expressive and at times wonderfully delicate songs include pop/rock-elements as well, creating the very unique style she is known for. By the way, the charismatic singer-songwriter speaks fairly good German as well and will charmingly guide through the evening. Listen in here.

Winter-discount at Göttin des Glücks
We would prefer vacation days because of a heat wave, but a winter-discount is not too bad either ;-) Right now, such discount is available at the designer-collective “Göttin des Glücks”. From now on all jackets and coats are 40% off the regular price. Tapered cuddly-coats made from warming Organic Brushed Fleece in nice winter colors only cost around 90 euros, light cardigans for underneath are available starting at only 51 euros. Or maybe you prefer sporty fashion, since semester break is coming up: cotton-jersey-zip-jackets can be both used to wear underneath on the slopes or for chilling on the couch.

Good Ball – dancing for money
This the right way to protest: peaceful, solidary and diverse! While the right-wing prominence is meeting at the “Akademikerball” at the Hofburg tonight, the through and through positive Good Ball is happening, where united people collect donations for social projects while dancing. The funny Lucy McEvil will be guiding through the night at the fluc wanne, warming-up-vibes come from FM4 DJ John Megill and the shaking continues with several live acts ranging from singer-songwriter Bernhard Eder to the electro poppers Julian & der Fux. Midnight interlude: folk dancing with the multiculti Halay City Marathon-group. Great!

Season sale at elke freytag
Who says that cleaning can’t be fun? The Austrian designer Elke Freytag is seriously cleaning up her shop before the winter break and clearing out every last corner that needs to be available for the new collection to move in. Which means that the prices are collectively lowered quite a bit, which in turn puts a big smile on fashionistas’ faces. Individual items from the most recent collection and pieces from the last season collection can be bagged for up to 60% off. For only 60 euros you can clean up nicely in a chic glamour skirt ;-) Only until Saturday!

Citrus delivery from South Italy
An insiders’ tip for gourmets and curious minds: right now you can buy rare citrus fruits at Casa Caria! Bergamots, bitter oranges, blood taroccos, a rare type of lemon named “Limone cidrato” with thick skin and an incredibly sweet type of orange, which is called “Arance martisi” in the South of Italy. All these fresh citrus fruits were brought from Calabria straight to the 7th district. For marmalade lovers the bergamot (which unites the best of bitter oranges and citrons) is a sought-after rarity. The fresh vitamin bombs can only be tasted, discovered and bought while supplies last!

Let’s play ballet
Now, ballet is not really something that women past puberty would even dare to take up. But movement pedagogue Ramona Schmid offers a pleasantly playful approach to it. Her new workshop consists of her helping the participants to get exciting insights into their own anatomy through ballet movements. And it has nothing to do with “plié-ing” until everything hurts, but with curiosity and light feet. With balls, scarves, feathers or ropes as accessories and to heighten your self-awareness and try something new. And you end up finding out: even untrained bodies are incredibly adaptive!

Earth market
Since the Landpartie-newsletter is still on winter break, this tip will lead you to the beautiful Burgenland. A charming “Earth Market” takes place in Parndorf regularly. There are only 20 of those markets worldwide, because of the very strict slow food criteria: only products, which were produced traditionally within a radius of 40 km are allowed. And not only the products are great, but meeting the people behind them is awesome as well. Fittingly for today’s motto “Warmth from within”, the “Blaue Gans” will be there and apple farmer Leeb refines apple trees. You just have to bring scions!

 New England Patriots
Super Bowl Party
Admittedly, this sport is a little complicated. But once you understand it (which isn’t any harder than that stupid offside rule in soccer), there is hardly any sport that is more exciting than American Football. And there are more and more people in Vienna thinking alike because today multiple Super Bowl viewings are going on: you can cheer on your favorite team live at the Marx Halle (in an actual stadium), at the Arcotel Wimberger while also enjoying a buffet and at the Hard Rock Café with hot dogs for every touchdown. So, it’s time: Atlanta Falcons against New England Patriots! And Lady Gaga performs during half time.

Change of scenes
What would have happened if Ingrid Bergmann hadn’t gotten on the plane back then? Was the orgasm scene from Meg Ryan in “When Harry met Sally” real after all? Was “Forrest Gump” actually a good runner or was he maybe just a shoe-fetishist? And would all these films have been completely different if there were live musicians? Doris Hindinger and Alexander Jagsch are getting to the bottom of all these in-depth questions of film history. They are evaluating the degree of truth of the most famous film scenes in Hollywood history – and after a while you fail to tell the difference between a well-known episode and reality.

Amadea reads Falco
He is considered to be the inventor of white rap and was the impersonation of excessive coolness. Falco always had something to say – sometimes poetic, sometimes bad, sometimes self-mocking. Today, on the occasion of the 19th anniversary of his death, there will be a reading of some of his lyrics that will make you feel the spirit of Hansi Hölzel. Falco would have surely enjoyed the dimly lit atmosphere of the former red light bar. That the bar is actually called “Jenseits” (“afterlife”) is just one of the coincidences of the evening. After the reading, it’s time to “Rock me Amadeus” – dancing to Falco vibes, all night long!

Princesse Angine
Something unusual for your ears today: Princesse Angine is the international music project of the St. Petersburg-born all-round artist Xenia Ostrovskaya, who lives in Vienna. The band consists of eight musicians with four different nationalities and the music mix ranging from rock to jazz and folk is just as diverse as the band members. The young singer’s voice is delightful, bright and clear, the melodies are as fresh as a daisy, the lyrics deep and full of black humor. But at times they are hard to understand, as they are sung in German and English and also in Russian ;-) Listen in here.

Winter-sale at mano design
Vases that consist mainly of holes, colorful bowls and unusual table decorations – at mano design you can always find original handmade pieces of art made from porcelain. Right now spring cleaning is around the corner and that is why many pieces were sorted out and have to go. Plates, bowls, platters, cups and lamps from the Bone China collections “Just” in strong colors ranging from azure blue to mango orange are strongly reduced, and 2nd choice pieces, stock with small defects and samples are available at a bargain price as well. And there are also many pieces that are not part of product range any longer.

Rudi Fußi “Ein Politik-Berater packt aus”
This is someone who knows what he is talking about: during his first cabaret program policy consultant Rudi Fußi guides the audience through the highs and lows of a profession that he knows well. Within the fictitious AMS intensive workshop “Berufspolitiker, aber richtig!” (“Career politician, done the right way!”), he teaches his protégés in the audience how to become a star of the Austrian politician scene. How does policy actually work? How do you talk like a politician? What is the deal with the parties? The answers are very, very evil – no party comes off well. And somehow you don’t know if you should laugh or cry ;-)

Silvia Gattin
This brilliant idea came to travel-loving fashionista Silvia Gattin in Marocco while she was buying old kilims at a market. She used the ethno-woven rugs to pep up leather boots and ended up hitting the right spot for many ladies. In the past, the pretty Abdillah Kilim boots and other finds from far-away countries like colorful Berber bags or Buddhist-inspired jewelry could only be bought online and at pop ups. But now Silvia Gattin is putting down permanent roots in the second district and her first very own, ultra chic store is open from today on! By the way, there are many new living accessories like ceramics and glasses.

Models wanted
Maybe an interesting change of perspective for art lovers: the Art VHS (the adult education centre) in the 9th district is looking for nude and portrait models for their painting and drawing classes. Gender, weight and age do not matter at all – as long as you are over 18 years old. And prominent features are of advantage for portrait painting ;-) By the way, you get paid for it as well: on a minimal employment basis you earn 13,50 per hour for nude model sessions and 9,50 euros/hour for portrait sessions. If you are interested send an email including a passport photo and your telephone number.

Tribute to Cissy Kraner
“I would like to smoke marihuana instead of Memphis, I would like to get mindlessly drunk.” Oh yes, Cissy Kraner was definitely never too shy to express her opinion. The chanteuse sang about absurdities and wickedness and husband Hugo Wiener wrote the songs especially for her. Today the day of death of the “Wienerlied”-legend is coming up for the fifth time: the perfect occasion for singer Antonia Lersch to dedicate a whole evening to her. Lersch sings her way through the Kraner-Viennese-universe and performs chosen classics and rarities from the huge collection of 400 chansons. Cult!

Shop of the week
Tipps der Stadtspionin
Very avant-garde, everything unisex and as young and hip as the 3 founders of the label: with TrueYou Ilja, Roland and René invite us to not be classical and conventional, but to live out our individuality. As of recently the cool fashion is also available at their very own store in the city center. There, everything is very bright and reduced; the stock includes mainly the colors grey and black. The handmade and often asymmetric long-shirts, jackets and sarong pants with low cut crotches actually do look great on both men and women. Rad stuff, as the youngsters would say – stylish, as we call it ;-)

Lifestyle in a pair: an interesting local named after the Patron Saint of Cycling, the Madonna del Ghisallo, opened its doors in the fifth district. On the one hand, there are Italian luxury racing bikes that you can buy or have repaired, on the other hand, you can also eat some good food – with a Mediterranean flair, excellent coffee and affordable lunch meals. The meals can practically be put together freely from the regular menu. The atmosphere here: full of light, modern and generous – incredible, what the friendly owner Livia Palffy turned an old betting café into!
