"Heya Girls!"
You can see a city from different angles: from the angle of a tourist, the I-need-to-get-to-the-office-quickly-angle, the grumpy-Viennese-angle or the enthusiastic summer-evening-oh-how-beautiful!-angle. “Die 78er” from the Institute for City Exploration look at Vienna in another way. They peer behind the scenes, into the hidden, undiscovered and often gloomy aspects of the city. The curious group (yes, they have female members as well!) enters abandoned houses, explores underground sewers, climbs up onto rooftops and cranes – and documents everything with spectacular pictures: Images of burnt-out discos, from the rooftop of the slowly crumbling flak tower, of nocturnal subway shafts or old factory halls. Of course, this is not really legal, but they never break in – and those who follow them on Facebook get to see a Vienna that no one knows. At the moment, the “Urban Explorers” are presenting a selection of their pictures in the gallery Oxymoron. Vienna from a different angle!
Wishing you a curious week

Summer, Singing, South Pacific
Balm for souls that are yearning for faraway places! At a Singing Evening in the middle of the lush greenness of the beautiful recreation area “Steinhofgründe”, simple songs from Australia, New Zealand, Brazil and Hawaii will be lilted tonight: some meditative, others lively, complemented by easy steps and moves and accompanied by drums, percussion and ukulele. This kind of free singing with singing therapist Julia Hwesta-Spitzer is not just fun but also has a positive impact on hormonal balance, immune system and psyche. And even pain can be eased by singing. Aloha against ouch ;-)
Meeting point: Bus station “Baumgartner Höhe” (bus 47A), 1160 Vienna. 21 July 18:30-20:30. €20. Web

Guided tour through the Hermesvilla
“Mansion surrounded by greenery, imperial, partly furnished, 1350 sq m living space”: Empress Sisi’s “Palace of Dreams” is located in the middle of the former imperial hunting ground Lainzer Tiergarten. Emperor Francis Joseph gave it to her as a present, hoping that it would keep his wife, who loved travelling, in Vienna for longer – a plan that didn’t work. To get to the mansion, you have to take a long walk through the shady park. Afterwards you can participate in a guided tour which will not just inform you about the building’s architectural history, but also about the biography of the eccentric empress.
Hermesvilla, Lainzer Tiergarten, 1130 Vienna. 24 July, 15:00. €11. Web
