"Heya Girls!"
This weekend, Vienna will be catapulted back into the Middle Ages. Because after an extensive restoration, the famous Neidhart frescoes can be seen again for the first time. Vienna’s oldest murals from the Middle Ages were commissioned in 1407 by the wealthy cloth merchant Michel Menschein. Namely for his private dance-hall in his stately “Sommerhaus” on Tuchlauben street no. 19 (he also owned a “Winterhaus” diagonally opposite!). The frescoes were rediscovered in 1979 by accident – a true sensation. Now they shine in new splendour – with an accompanying permanent exhibition – and can be viewed from today. But the actual highlights of the weekend are the fascinating free Festsaal tours and city walks during which you can experience the world of Michel Menschein, the medieval Jewish quarter and the underground Vergilius Chapel. And all free of charge.

Wishing you a splendid week,
Your CitySpotterGirl

Tiefer Graben 8
Be honest, who doesn’t crave some mood elevators in this grey autumn mist? And no, we’re not talking about clinical but fashionable substances! Eight young labels have come together in the first district aiming to chase the blues out of wardrobes and minds. High spirits are provided by: classy wrap skirts by Leopoldinger from Melk, bright Sari-Saree dirndl from Salzburg and colourful Bellas Vienna bobble shoes. Or alternatively, you could stock up on the magnificent flower arrangements by Viktoria Wallner and plan a cheerful anti-autumn-blues-party!

Night Tour at the Zoo
Alas, it’s getting dark sooner and sooner now. Which is a bit depressing, but there are some advantages as well: like the night tour at the zoo starting earlier now than in summer, for instance. Once all visitors have left the site, you stalk through the dark realm of sleeping and nocturnal zoo animals in a small group – equipped with Swarovski night-vision devices and under qualified supervision. Among other things, you will make the acquaintance of Egyptian fruit bats that sail through the air like ghosts while passing through the hippo house. Not for sleepyheads ;-)

 Katja Rozboril
kaRja
Happy birthday! It’s been 13 years already since New Yorker hipness made camp in Vienna: with kaRja, a former electric shop converted into a tailor shop. Katja Rozboril designs, sells and produces some damn pretty skirts, dresses and jackets in this store. There will be lots of cheering on the birthday – with snaps and snacks. On top of that, the designer will present her new zero waste concept: the new philosophy is textile upcycling, new things are created from items that are no longer worn. For instance, upcycled jackets made from blankets included in the new winter collection.

Demeter Farmer’s Market
First of all: congratulations on 50 years of Demeter Austria! Which means half a century of vibrant, biodynamic agriculture. Today 20 Austrian businesses are in the city – as an exception! – for a visit with their products. And that’s how urban nature lovers and gourmets, too, can taste all kinds of Demeter specialties, buy fresh autumnal vegetables, bread and wine, watch how butter and strudel are made, or mix their own creamed honey. And über-cool people ask Demeter farmers about the “Agriculture of the Future”!

CitySpotterGirl with Eva D.
Once a month, cabaret artist and actress Eva Damyanovic invites guests into her “Living room”. Tonight, she has made camp at the Dirtwater Café – and your CitySpotterGirl has the honour of being asked to a chat on the couch. I have to show up in house shoes and bring something from my own living room (hmm, so far I don’t know what to take ;-) And afterwards, Karg & Schütter will sing some Viennese songs. I have no idea what to expect – but considering the hostess I’m guessing that it will definitely be entertaining!

Special Effects
In 1933, a special effects “King Kong” on the Empire State Building created a movie stir. Today, it’s blue-green fantasy “Avatar(s)” or “shipwrecked tigers”. Nothing in film seems to happen anymore without special effects, technology-wise. From today you can look behind the scenes – interactively – of old and new movie productions and dive into the world of film tricks, pre-production and illusion. This would be exciting in itself, but they also have a specially installed “Filmstudio” where you can shoot your own trick-trailer. There we go: Feel like a Movie Star!

Bob Proctor – Strategies for Success
Usually, CitySpotterGirl is rather sceptical when a so-called mind guru spreads his strategies for success. Especially when he rides in from Trump land… On the other hand, millions of convinced people and millions of sold bestsellers can’t lie, either. In any case, the global number one in all things success and motivational coaching is in Vienna today for the first time. And shares his knowledge and experience for an afternoon. No matter if it’s supposed to lead to money, happiness or a change of habits – listen and learn. They have simultaneous interpreting!

Tartufo Totale
The pigs and the dogs are currently on the loose in France and Italy! Yes, the truffle season has started! But the easiest way to the exclusive super-tuber doesn’t lead to the south but to the Truffle Gourmand Days at the VIENNABallhaus. Gourmet-hotshot Hannah Neunteufel has imported delicious tartufi bianci and “black diamonds” from Piemont, Tuscany and Champagne. Now they can be studied, tried, consumed and bought, obviously. They have truffle pasta, truffle salami, truffle salt and chocolate truffles. Many small producers. Free entry!

 Seletti
Seletti Pop-up Store
If you fancy yourself hip and up-to-date design- and furniture-wise, you might be disabused with immediate effect at Vienna’s first Seletti pop-up store. The eccentric furniture company from Italy has long made a name for itself with unorthodox small pieces of furniture and items of daily use. Usually, you can only get the cool “Hot Dog” sofas, “Shit” cushions, “Blow”-Job-LEDs and “Monkey-Lamps” in NY, Paris or Tokyo, but also in Vienna now (thanks to the ladies from the concept store Repertoire) for 3 months! CitySpotterGirl’s favourite: the “Toiletpaper”-pieces with flashy prints from the shock-art-magazine of the same name. Me want!

Creative Fair Vienna
Pearl-treasures, wool dreams and mosaic works of art – for 2 days, the MFC fairgrounds are turned into a true crafting-Mecca. DIY-fans can not only browse the huge selection of accessories of all kinds to their heart’s content (they got everything from yarn to punch!), but there are also inspiring workshops: advent wreath making from natural materials, creating “Stories in the Box”, making jewellery with the “Peyote”-technique – all very trendy! But the exhibitors themselves are also fascinating: like artist Benedicte Querton, who brings her objects of original rescued Gründerzeit tiles.

Las Hermanas Caronni
A twofold rhythmical pleasure today at Konzerthaus! “New Sounds from The Pampas” sound through hall and corridor. Responsible for it is, on the one hand, the ladies-duo “Las Hermanas Caronni” – twin sisters living in France, who combine the musical tradition of their home country of Argentina with fabulous lyrics, clarinet- and violoncello art. The sound is a mixture of lonely steppe and hot Chacarera folk. Listen in here. Well, and then you will also have the two instrumental gauchos Renato Borghetti and Yamandu Costa from Brazil joining in as well. Double concert!

Single Hiking with Dogs
If you want to combine business with pleasure, sign up for this weekend walk with (or without) dog! Thus, you could not only check off fresh air, exercise and the obligatory dog walking in one go. But with a little bit of luck, you could end up enjoying some flirting and heart-fluttering chit-chat on top of that. On 10:00, the getting to know each other starts with dog trainer Carmen Vavra. Today, it’s the turn of the 35-60-year-old age group. The younger ones can mark their territory on 19 October. 2-3-hour long hike. Only with sign-up & run off into the wild!

Privacy Week: Privat, Oida!
We’re lucky the Chaos Computer Club Wien exists! For they provide the very opposite of digital chaos: security, privacy, and media competence in the interwebz. And those are more important than ever considering the overwhelming usage of Insta, Facebook, emails, and other means of digi-communication. A whole week is filled with interesting informative lectures, practical workshops and assessments. For example, on avoiding censoring, dealing with cookies, lockpicking and CmS. If that’s all as clear as mud to you, all the more reason to go! Don’t forget your phone and tablet ;-) Today’s the opening!

Wiener Linien Fashion Collection
The „Öffis” once again show the world their cool side and knock out a new fashion collection (plus a new logo). Young, cool street-wear – all in black and unisex, naturally. Among the things up for grabs are a cropped top, jogging trousers (sorry, Karl!) or even a windbreaker jacket. The limited collection was created in cooperation with the Viennese label Peng! and the studio Miyagi, by the way. The pieces will be available at today’s Release Party at MuseumsQuartier, remnants will be brought to the Remise shop. And if nothing is left, we’ll just have to wait for the swimwear collection in spring.

Sisters Lumière!
When the feminist promotion platform Sorority starts a new round of films with and at Stadtkino, you know it’ll be edgy, colourful and political! On today’s programme is the intimate documentary film portrait “Kate Nash: Underestimate The Girl” showing the US-singer and activist as she fails, starts anew and fights against commerce and her manager. Final conclusion: a woman must believe in herself! Afterwards, 2 domestic music biz players engage in a discussion about being female in a male domain: soul-groover Lylit and musicologist Tatjana Domany.

Le Mystère des Voix Bulgares
Musical highlight: the world-famous Bulgarian women’s choir Le Mystère des Voix Bulgares has already flashed the global music scene in the 1980s. And even knocked star of the scene Kate Bush’s socks off with its inimitable chorales that are somewhere between Bulgarian folk and medieval vocal trance. After twenty years the powerful-voiced Bulgarian ladies are back with a new album. “BooCheeMish” is its name which is more modern since it was created together with avant-gardist Lisa Gerrard and it’s really epic. Alien beat boxing meets Middle Ages. Listen in here!

Frauraum im Freiraum
What a great word game. And also a great idea, women need some free space (“Freiraum”) regularly to fully develop their potential, after all. That’s the very reason the two coaches Sabine Gromer and Maren Wölfl have started this monthly evening meet-up where women can network, exchange ideas and improve their knowledge. Every month there is a new topic. It starts today with a guest talk by Viktor Frankl pupil Dieter Langenecker on the search of “life’s meaning”. The lecture includes the three main blockades of happiness. Please sign up.

Photo- and performance artist Franzi Kreis tells moving mother-and-daughter stories – only until 24 October! She has recorded countless interviews with daughters who tell their mothers’ life stories. After the talks, she photographed them. This combination of story and portrait tugs at your heartstrings. “My mum always said: You do look good. DIY Papier-Upcycling
Today is the perfect day to collect any paper waste in your apartment and office. And to pack any mountains of old calendars, books, and magazines into a bag. However, you don’t carry it to a container but to artist Christa Langheiter’s paper-upcycling workshop. She demonstrates how to create small eye-catcher boxes, leaf-magic, collages and business card holders from waste paper without a lot of effort. How goes the saying: “There’s no using up creativity. The Wrapstars can usually be seen touring the city with their food-truck to provide hungry office people with excellent wraps. But now, they have (at least partly) settled down and opened a venue as well: situated very handily on Nelkengasse, you can combat your hunger quickly and healthily here during the week. The menu consists of four wrap styles that you can personalise with different flavours – from Krautkarate to Pepper Ann. They also make bowls with the same fillings and toppings. And since you eat with your eyes first, you get a really cool huge wall picture for free on top of it.
