"Heya Girls!"
Now, my dears, we have a surprise for you! We've made a new book and it's going to be something entirely different – not a travel guide, not a Vienna book. No, over the last few months we've been dedicating ourselves exclusively to flowers. And in a way that has never been done before in a book! Journalists, artists, photographers, art historians and designers show the botanical lifestyle in “Blütenrausch”. We interviewed Azumo Makoto, who shoots flower bouquets into space, travelled to Cornwall to lost gardens, discovered gorgeous floral fashion in Madrid (photo), tasted the flavour of trees and met Julia Asenbaum, who captures the scent of landscapes. “Blütenrausch” brings you a variety of exciting stories and looks sensationally pretty – with so many great photos, we had to produce it in oversize ;-) It’s best if you check it out for yourself and browse through the reading sample. And now surprise 2: If you order the book before its official release on 2 October, you will get it for only 23 € as a subscription price!

Wishing you a blooming week,
Your CitySpotterGirl

Blütenrausch. Until 1 October for only 23 € in the web shop. (then from 2 October for 27.80 €)

Including: greats like Da Wastl, Elena Sarto and Fabian Navarro – with this in mind: let the battle of words begin!

Vienna Design Week: We Frame Landscape
From today you will have to do without sleep and any private appointments, for the Vienna Design Week is in town and shakes things up with exciting exhibitions. Particularly exciting: “We Frame Landscape” by Miki Martinek and Sebastian Hilpold. The two have recreated the city map of various metropolises in vertical plant pictures made of philodendrons, ferns, mosses and porcelain. The WLAN-controlled supply of water keeps the natural works of art alive. This is design with brains! The whole programme of the Vienna Design Week is available online.

Hemayat Charity Auction
Going once, going twice, helped! Politicising with Karim El-Gawhary, singing with Annette Dasch or snatching cartoons by Tex Rubinowitz – all this is possible today at Hemayat's charity auction. Celebrities and artists put their time and works under the hammer for a good cause; the proceeds finance therapy for survivors of war and torture. Hilde Dalik and Christoph Grissemann will be hosting the evening, by the way. And Michael Niavarani will give a cabaret performance with the Simpl ensemble. There is hardly a better combination of seriousness and fun.

Since Thursday we have had to swap high heels for walking shoes, because the inner-city walking day in the footsteps of art is in full swing again. Today, with a very special Gallery Walk: at 14 stops, you can meet dedicated women sculptors, painters, collectors and gallery owners from today and yesterday, from the Biedermeier and the Wiener Werkstätte eras. The Craftshop
The name says it all here, because in the Craftshop they cast, solder, hammer and gold-plate for all it's worth! The result is jewellery beauties made of rich gold-coloured brass, from boho to classic and chic to minimalist-modern. Until now, you could stock up on the precious items at two addresses in the first district, but now the handmade jewellery temple is celebrating its new opening in Siebensterngasse in the seventh district and invites craft lovers and fashion fanatics to a housewarming – perfect for discovering the new collection!

Monument Day
A discovery tour in your own city: On today's Monument Day, hidden treasures that are otherwise closed to the public can be visited all over Austria – more than 50 places in Vienna alone. And all of them for free! Extra exciting are the places that are otherwise not so easy to get to: Like the Archbishop's Palace complex with its exotic Bergl Room, for instance, or the “Haus zur Goldenen Schlange” with its rediscovered 16th century wooden beam ceiling. Also exciting: the city walks following the routes from Heimito von Doderer's novels!

Louise Bourgeois: Persistent Antagonism
Her surname is somewhat deceptive, because instead of prim and proper, Louise Bourgeois was one of the coolest gals among the artists of her era. In the 1940s, she was the first to incorporate her surroundings into her work; from the 1970s to the 1980s, shows and performances became one with her figures. Today, her monumental spider sculptures and space-filling cells are legendary. Somewhat less well-known, but no less interesting, are her paintings, to which the Belvedere now dedicates a major solo exhibition for the first time in Europe. Must-see!

 Byron Katie
“The Work”-Day for Stress Reduction
Getting off the destructive thought carousel! The recipe for success of the world-famous best-selling author Byron Katie is very simple: It makes a huge difference what we think and what relationship we have with our thoughts. They are responsible for our happiness. It already helps to ask yourself four essential questions. You can learn what these are and how “The Work” works from coaches in today's workshop. Especially for the start of September, it's a great way to kick any burgeoning stress in the butt. And on top of all that, participation is free

Late hours in Margarten and Seestadt
Nocturnal bookworms will be particularly pleased to hear this: since last week, the municipal libraries in Margareten and Seestadt have been open until 22:00 on weekdays. Which means anyone with a valid library card can enter. After scanning the card, the doors open automatically and books, films and other media can be borrowed and returned independently – which should certainly save one or the other from missed return deadlines ;-) And during the usual opening hours, the librarians will of course be on hand to offer advice and assistance!

German Design 1949-1989
Wall units, sofas, rubber tree – at the beginning of the 80s, Germany's division was not really noticeable, at least not interior-wise. Nevertheless, German design was just as divided as the country until the fall of the Wall. “Ostalgie” with colourful plastic in the GDR, purist luxury in the FRG. It wasn't quite so clichéd, as the current exhibition at the Möbelmuseum shows, juxtaposing 370 objects from East and West. From iconic furniture such as the “Senftenberg Egg” to the legendary “DDR-traffic light man” and fashion, the pieces provide a unique insight into German (design) history!

Miameide
Can plants actually speak? Violist and composer Julia Purgina has listened to them and has written an opera that makes botanical structures and the fractal growth of plants relatable. “Miameide” tells Mia's story, who is able to understand the language of plants and makes their voices heard. In addition, Julia Libiseller and Germano Milite show the surreal movements of leaves, blossoms and roots in their eternal search for light and water in their stop-motion film. And for those whose green thumb is itching afterwards: There's a rarity plant market in the foyer!

Pop-up Restaurant at Palais Hansen Kempinski
We are really spoiled in terms of cuisine in our favourite city. Nevertheless, there are still events that easily manage to make our mouths water! The latest candidate is the pop-up restaurant at Palais Hansen. There, until the end of September, the two guest chefs Simon Prokscha and Gerald Kortmann will conjure up Euro-Asian gourmet delights at star level. The five-, seven- or nine-course menus include pigeon with purple curry, mango and coconut, for instance, or old milk cow with ginger, confit egg yolk and beeftea – delicious!

Hyperacidity
“Alkaline nutrition” is one of the buzzwords of the hour, terms like “ph-value” and “acid-base balance” are on everyone's lips. But what is so-called hyperacidity actually and how do you become over-acidified? A free webinar by nutrition expert Markus Wintersteller from Basenbox provides information today and explains in detail exactly how nutrition works. He also answers a lot of questions: Which foods have an alkaline effect? Which are acidic? How can I relieve my body and mind with an alkaline diet? If you want, you can also ask questions yourself.

On the road with the props
MuseumsQuartier instead of Naschmarkt, Halle E instead of Theater an der Wien. The Musik Theater's alternative venue will again be filled with the magic of theatre in the 23/24 season. In addition to the concerts, the regular guided tours behind the scenes of the theatre are particularly exciting. Whether with artistic directors, technical staff or assistant directors, the area can be explored on regular tours. Today the focus is on visuals and so it's off to the theatre props, where everything to do with stage design, costumes, make-up and lighting can be checked out!

Self-defence in Online Dating
It's a match! A swipe to the right is now enough to open the door to love, sex and tenderness. But what does that do to us? Women often start to feel arbitrary and interchangeable. It is not uncommon for sexualised violence to occur in chats in the form of insults or unasked-for nude pictures, and even worse: date rape during live meetings. How to deal with such assaults and digital violence in the context of online dating, as well as an open ear for questions, is offered today by the experts from “Frauen beraten Frauen” (women advise women) in an online workshop!

markta
Farmer's market flair with supermarket variety – that's what will be available in the nineth district from this week! The first physical markta shop has opened in Alserstraße. While the farm-regional delicacies were previously only available online, everything from apples to toilet paper is now being presented live on 400 square metres for touching, smelling and tasting. Densely packed shelves have no chance here; instead, airy aisles, warm light and a central tree create an oasis where shopping becomes a pleasant experience. Also nice: in the café corner you can recover with coffee and croissants or a delicious lunch.

Das Steinhart
Work is still going on all around the many construction sites of the new “Neues Landgut” district, but the very stylish Steinhart has been open regularly since this week – after the soft opening. In the charmingly restored brick building of the former Gösserhalle, creative cooking is the order of the day. “Only seasonal and regional” is the motto, all ingredients come from selected producers – and that comes at a price. The lunch menus (also vegetarian) and the pastrami-like sandwiches are still moderately priced, but in the evening the fine dining is more elegant. In any case, roast venison with napkin dumplings tasted delicious!
