"Heya Girls!"
Yes, dear ladies, we don't like to hear this. But the textile industry is the second dirtiest industry in the world after the oil industry. In the face of consumerism and its devastating effects on the climate, the fantastic re:pair festival will show how we can act more sustainably. The aim of the festival is to revive the traditional culture of repair in 130 events. And it's not just about darning socks, but about repairing in art, in technology, even in nature. For 24 days, exhibitions, workshops and lectures show the enormous breadth of the topic. But the focus is on fashion: the exhibition “Upcycling Fashion – Vermehrt Schönes!” presents clothes that have been creatively redesigned, mended or upcycled by Viennese people. Students of the Angewandte explain the techniques used to restore historical textiles. And in several workshops, you can creatively mend pieces of clothing under the guidance of experts in Visible Mending (photo). I'll probably be around there quite often ;-)

Wishing you a sustainable week,
Your CitySpotterGirl

Peter Cvik – Hopeless Romantic
Slovakian painter Peter Cvik demonstrates how wonderfully opposites can complement each other. On his tours, the jack-of-all-trades captures his environment in rich detail, then blurs lost places with urban codes and architectural masterpieces with industrial fragments on his acrylic canvases. In his new exhibition “Hopeless Romantic”, he integrates people into his imaginary cityscapes for the first time, but they are not heroes, only observers of the pictures. And for those who would like to check it out: today is the vernissage!

Austrian Film Award
It's showtime! If you're in the mood for cinema today, you're in for a real treat. The Academy of Austrian Film has once again awarded the Filmpreis in 17 different categories, and today the award-winning films are shown free of charge (!) in cinemas all over the country. In our favourite city, the place to be is the Votivkino to see “Vera”, “Elfriede Jelinek – Die Sprache von der Leine lassen” or “Will My Parents Come to See Me” – or all three! And on top of that, you can look forward to film talks with the directors and a reception with bubbles.

On today's Restoration Day, the Planetarium will become an open workshop where restorers will show visitors how wigs are made for the larger-than-life Fortuna figure, provide insights into how an automatic marriage machine works and get to the bottom of how erotic sculpture was created using the waxen Prater Girl. And for the curious: Tomorrow and Saturday there will be free guided tours through the construction site of the new museum!

Treasures of Izzy
The Treasures of Izzy popup offers a particularly great way of glamming up, fashion-wise! For three days, fashion fairy Isabelle von Spreckelsen will once again be presenting her most beautiful treasures to wear and put on show: there will be vintage pieces from the 60s to the 2000s, designer pieces by Escada, Armani and Prada, brands from COS to Levi's and Marc Cain as well as jewellery, bags and shoes. Of course, as always, cross-gender. So this could totally be a nice shopping trip with your sweetheart – without him having to waste away on the men's waiting-couch ;-)

Then you should go to the ladies-only presentation workshop today!  Porzellanmuseum Augarten
suddenly bob
The call for freedom, pure rebellion and yet so elegant and wicked – the Golden Twenties are still relived today. The porcelain museum in the Augarten now illuminates the epoch with its light-dark shimmering facets from the perspective of the fine material, which experienced its heyday in Vienna despite the political and economic catastrophes of the time. And so a number of small porcelain figures present themselves in glamorous, fluttering Art Deco-pyjamas or with rebellious boyish bob cuts and show in a particularly beautiful way how girl power worked over 100 years ago!

Je ne regrette goar nix
You can start the new week with a bang particularly well at the “Wien im Rosenstolz” festival today! This evening, Valerie Sajdik and Katharina Hohenberger perform a spirited tête-à-tête with Viennese songs and French chansons. Whether Barnabitengasse or Champs Elysées – in a coquettishly bitingly comedic manner, the two prove that Vienna and Paris are musical soulmates. Brilliantly inspired by Edith Piaf, Jacques Brel, but also Gerhard Bronner with a crystal-clear, multi-faceted voice versus a colourful dialect timbre à la Hermann Leopoldi or Hugo Wiener. Funny!

Who knew: The majority of potentially dangerous content on social media is not checked by machines, but by humans. Content moderators work under the greatest psychological strain to ensure that we do not encounter any disturbing content. Based on the new crime novel “Unfollow Stella” by Ellen Dunne about the disappearance of an ex-journalist with a double life on the dark side of social media, this extreme job will be discussed. Also on the panel are digital expert Ingrid Brodnig and TikTok marketing expert Victor Vecsei. Interesting!

Then it's on to Pinetz to the wine-growing estate with alpaca farm. There activities like feeding the alpacas, petting the dwarf goats, a wine tasting with potato spread and shopping opportunities await you – there's hardly a more delicious way to start the evening!

Von alten Mythen und Hüten
Ugh, it’s only Wednesday... to sweeten the time until the weekend, the L.E.O. invites you to a funny show spectacle today: You can experience wildly delightful and spookily witty stories of damsels, knights and quietly lisping, hunter-hunting Loreleyes. As ear candy they serve excerpts from Wagner operas and parodies of the same, as well as songs and chansons on the theme of myths. The whole thing is hosted by the demonic diseuse Rosetta Rosar, while the cast performs a perfect balancing act between singing and acting and Kei Endo shows off her best tinkling skills on the piano!

Escaping the digital madness has never been so easy – and so cosy! With its wooden panelling, spiral staircase and mezzanine, the bookshop “analog” gives off absolute living room vibes, made even more beautiful by the highly likeable owner-couple. And if you want to keep up the retro mood after browsing – Café Jelinek is situated right opposite of it!

Gleis//Garten
It took longer than planned, but now the wait is over: Vienna's first food hall has opened this week! Like any proper food hall, Gleis//Garten is housed in a renovated brick building – the former remise of the Badner Bahn. Inside, huge palm trees make the hall look cosier, and there is room for hundreds of guests. Food is available at the nine food stalls that are there so far, from Greek to Asian (excellent gyozas) to elegant cakes (the tartes are not cheap, but delicious). Drinks can be obtained from the on-site brewery. The soft opening is currently underway; the real thing kicks off on 19 October. Very cool
