"Heya Girls!"
You could say that “Lifelong learning” is the new mantra of managers. And I have added the motto “Only learn from the best” to this sentence – and can tell you here and today: next week we have the opportunity of learning from real professionals known around town. However, it’s not about how to optimise profits or manipulate stock prices but how to give the gourmet factor in our life a big boost. Franz Kaschik, Demeter baker by trade, regularly shows at his “Brotwerkstatt” how delicious bread is made. This Saturday, he has a basic course for beginners planned. There, you will learn how to make 3 wholemeal breads with self-made sourdough and ciabatta with organic yeast – and you will walk home with tasty baked goods. Completely different but just as particular: the Sushi cooking courses at the high-end restaurant Unkai. Under the guidance of chef de cuisine Condiano Zamora, you’re going to learn the preparation of sushi and maki. A must-do for fans of the Japanese cuisine!

Wishing you a relishing week,
Your CitySpotterGirl

Winter im MQ
There’s no chance of escaping the yearly winter-party-jamboree at MQ, anyway. So why not just join the celebrations on today’s opening day? The DJ-Warm-Up starts from 17:00, afterwards the gypsy-jazz-group “Gewürztraminer” fires up the party folk with guitarist-virtuosic melodies and pulsating beats at a free concert. In addition to the first punch of the season, there are also a couple of surprises blowing in: new are the “WinterWAMP”-design fair at MQ’s forecourt with designers changing weekly, the LED ball track “Lumina”, and daily concerts and cultural happenings. Winter is coming!

 H&M
Moschino at H&M
The scramble on the pre-shopping-evening was quite a pain, to be honest, but the name Moschino is a winner, after all. From today, things will go on with less hysteria: the choice for H&M’s new haute couture collaboration has gone to Jeremy Scott and Moschino and the unusual pieces are offered in selected H&M stores as of now. Scott has mixed the fashion of the iconic Italian label with American pop culture and has created a mix of kitsch and innovation. And for H&M, he remains true to this mix, as well: Disney characters on trousers and shirts, golden coats, bling-bling jewellery.

Projekt OT + Light of Hope
The lunacy of 1938, made visible for everyone: on the occasion of the commemoration of the November pogroms, light signs are being installed at the locations of the many destroyed synagogues and prayers houses in Vienna from 8 November. For the project “OT” (which stands for “sign” in Hebrew), they have created a uniform, artistically designed light sign – a 5m high “star stele” carrying a glowing Star of David. Also, commemorative events will take place at several of the 25 locations, and today, they also remember the victims from that time on Heldenplatz with “Light of Hope”.

 Divas Mexicanas
Balcanto
They are humming, hissing, thrumming, and belting again! Because Nuschin Vossoughi, director of the Theater am Spittelberg, is hosting the a-cappella-festival Voicemania again. Balcanto starts things off in the city: you will see artists warbling away on balconies in the inner city for one afternoon: from Gesangskapelle Herrmann to the vivacious “Divas Mexicanas”. Plus, the “A Capella To Go accompany” at Graben whets your appetite for the many concerts of the following weeks. And in the evening, the opera group “The Cast” rocks the Theater am Spittelberg!

Long live the European Republic! CitySpotterGirl is a passionate European and thus also a big fan of the “European Balcony Project”. All over Europe, today at 16:00, the European Republic is proclaimed from (theatre) balconies and at public squares in more than 10 languages. This initiative by Ulrike Guérot and Robert Menasse also compromises events, talks, podium discussions and artistic interventions in numerous European cities.  Lorain
Lorain
A very special kind of Americana sound and pretty good! Behind the band “Lorain” from Portland/Oregon are the songwriter Erik Emanuelson and the singer Robin Emanuelson. Erik’s singing awakens memories of Bob Dylan’s album “Nashville Skyline” and creates woozy but at the same time groovy musical pictures in harmony with Robin’s voice. They are presenting their debut album “Through Frames” on their first European tour, singing about the isolation that prevails in our more and more populated and globalised world. Listen in here.

With Tihar, Nepal celebrates one of its most beautiful festivals: it’s dedicated to Lakshmi, the goddess of wealth and fortune. On this day, she descends from the world of the gods to the Earth and is to be accompanied with a sea of lights into the houses of the people. In all of Nepal, tens of thousands of candles and lights are being lit on this evening. The Nepal-restaurant Yak + Yeti, held in high esteem by CitySpotterGirl, endeavours to bring some of this atmosphere to Vienna today. Wolf Haas “Junger Mann”
Finally an entertaining Haas novel again without “something has happened again” and the Brenner! In his new book, the Pinzgau native writes about his youth as an overweight teenager working at a gas station and passionately falling in love for the first time. That’s why he starts on a diet first thing and with every kilo he loses he sees his chances with his flame increasing. And one of the big advantages of the holiday job at the gas station is that he always knows when Elsa’s husband is leaving for Greece or wherever else. Today, the author reads at Burgtheater!

 The Ritz Carlton Vienna
Vienna’s highest Christmas Market at Ritz
So close to heaven: the highest Christmas Market of the city shines again from the rooftop terrace of the Ritz Carlton this year. The wooden huts at the bar high above the city offer not only fine delicacies, warming punch, and deliciously smelling mulled wine at three different stations but also champagne, matching the sophisticated atmosphere on Ringstraße. A wonderful spot to already raise a glass to a hopefully relaxing advent time with a view over the sparkling city. And who knows, perhaps the heaps of tourists will remain unaware of it for now ;-)

The Outcast: Olga Neuwirth 50.2
Great show as part of “Wien Modern”: for Olga Neuwirth’s 50th birthday, her big video-concert-installation theatre “The Outcast” will be completely rearranged for the stage. The unusual work of musical theatre by the Viennese native – the most famous female contemporary composer, after all! – has been inspired by “Moby Dick”. British native Netia Jones is responsible for video, stage and costumes, she’s a true “lighting magician”, as “The Independent” put it. Boltenstern
Quite the fiddly job! One of her masterpieces, a broad gold bracelet, took Marie Boltenstern one year to finish. The delicate piece of jewellery, consisting of many individual links, hugs your wrist perfectly and is produced via 3D printer, like all the others in her newly opened store! Just as fascinating from a technical point of view and beautiful at the same time are the pendant earrings made of polymer. And – a great idea for Christkind! – you can have a self-written word that will be scanned right there, be integrated into a ring, earring & co. More personal than any engraving!

SalzBurger
Name with a double meaning: the boss is Salzburger and the brand-new restaurant is a lot about salt (Salz) and burgers. The venue itself is two-tracked as well. For lunch, excellent (!) burgers are served at a big community table with herbs growing in its middle. And for dinner, you go one floor below to the elegant part of the restaurant, where steaks, refined beef tartar, but also vegetarian dishes are served. Tastes delicious (the cook used to work at the Kussmaul), looks chic here (the boss is an architect). And the best thing: the SalzBurger is right around the corner of our office ;-)
