editorial

"Heya Girls!"
Of course, the situation is already getting on our nerves. How couldn’t it? Masks, distancing, waiting for test results – life certainly used to be more thrilling. And the number of cancelled events is increasing again, which constantly forces us here in the editorial office to rethink and rewrite. And yet: I am always amazed at the creative ways you can deal with the crisis. When big concerts are a problem in terms of Corona, you just do the opposite – like Sofia Taliani this weekend and next weekend at the World Museum. With her “Concert for One” series, the musician from Venice has created a rather unique concert experience: The concerts are actually intended for one person only. You enter the “Corridor of Astonishment” in the World Museum on your own and you get a concert for 5 to 10 minutes alone, immerse yourself in the musical world of the singer and pianist. Close up and yet totally safe. Now that’s one way of handling a crisis.

Wishing you a healthy week,
Your CitySpotterGirl

Rosa Mosa
As is well known, the desire for ice cream decreases in autumn, the desire for fancy shoes outlasts all seasons ;-) The Austro-Japanese duo “rosa mosa” knows this too and moves into an ice cream store in the Majolikahaus with its shoe label seasonally. Today is the opening of the store, then the winter collection will be presented until March. In the models, old craftsmanship meets experimental design – like wooden clogs with gaudy lambskin and plush sneakers. Also in the store: rare tea from Kyoto and fashion from the foot of Fujiyama. Cool!

The City Through A Female Lens
In 2030, 2.5 billion women will live and work in cities. Until now, however, the planning and execution of cities has always been dominated by men. Today, an exciting symposium will ask the question: How much femininity will the city of tomorrow offer? To what extent will the city of the future be tailored to the wishes and needs of women? And above all, what role will female architects and urban planners play in this process? With renowned speakers such as Elke Delugan-Meissl from DMAA and Jane Hall from the famous London studio Assemble!

Rabtaldirndl City: Vienna
Well, this is going to be a nerve-racking action-movie performance: the Rabtaldirndln are setting up the film set for a genuine spy movie at the VHS Rudolfsheim-Fünfhaus. Because Vienna is in a dramatic crisis. The audience follows (as extras) how oligarchs, casino owners and property sharks are squandering the future and the culture of the country. And they are right there when the Rabtaldirndln as action heroines liberate Austria from the roots of evil. Wild car chases, brutal fight scenes and breathtaking stunts are included ;-)

Shop Anniversary: me in wien
Exactly three years ago, the ladies from the sustainable fashion label “me in Vienna” arrived in the city with their oversize outfits in unisex look. Happy Birthday! To celebrate, there are discounts for every existing year: 10% off the current collection, 20% off models from 2019 and 30% off pieces from 2018. By the way, Austrian slow fashion is produced locally and fairly in the city and the design is kept puristic with airy, wide cuts: loose linen pants, comfortable jumpsuits and tops made of organic cotton can be combined crisscross as mix-and-match fashion.

Elaha Soroor
The cosmopolitan Salam Orient Music Festival takes you on an exploration of the Middle East and the Arab world. Tonight's destination: Afghanistan. Casting star Elaha Soroor sings modernly interpreted folk songs, which are traditionally passed on from mother to daughter. The potpourri of jazz, rock, oriental music and electronics electrifies and tells of joy, femininity and resistance. The singer had to flee her homeland (despite her fame) because of her outspoken views on women's rights. She has experienced for herself what she sings about – and you can hear it.

BLUE MOON you saw
A blue moon throws its light on the stage, accompanied by the immortal voice of Elvis Presley singing: You saw me standing alone. With the new performance “BLUE MOON you saw” the Austrian dance group Liquid Loft celebrates its 15th anniversary. Building on the piece “Stand Alones” shown last year, its further development puts it right at the pulse of time: eight dancers come together, but keep their distance from each other. The music itself also revolves around the longing for connectedness, but celebrates it as romantic solitude.

Brotfabrik Autumn Party
A chill art-Saturday: at the Brotfabrik's autumn party, curious visitors can relax and discover the galleries, workshops and artists based here while listening to live music and eating street food. For this, the “AnzenbergerGallery” invites you to brunch (18 €, with registration) and an auction provides adrenalin for art hunters. Of course, you can also get creative: In the open workshop you can design and create your own light sculptures. A good spot for bargains is the photo book flea market of “OstLicht” and the curiosity flea market of “Schauraum 11”.

xess + baba
The cardigans of the Swiss designer label “xess + baba” have a special extra: you can turn them inside out, so they can be worn on both sides! The complete new winter collection “Pulsing Color” is now presented exclusively at the pop-up of “Shoes for Women” for a short time: through dots, fine lines and graphic colour gradients it almost seems as if the patterns are in motion. Because the jackets, dresses, scarves and caps are made of merino wool, they are also wonderfully soft to wear. Now this makes you look forward to the fashion-autumn.

Face to face with llamas and alpacas: just looking into those big round eyes makes you happy. Maybe because it always looks like the cuddly monsters are grinning all the time. Yoga makes you even happier in the company of good-humoured animals – and that's what you can find in Essling today. The mats are set up in a circle outdoors, the animals are the centre of attention: their calmness and peace, in combination with yoga exercises, also helps the participants to relax and recharge their batteries for everyday life. Silver Collection: Sisi’s Household
Empress Elisabeth and Emperor Franz Joseph at dinner, what must that have looked like? In any case it took a huge effort! On a guided tour of the Silver Collection today, you can find out how the imperial household was organised. And for this they take out the shiny showpieces of the Silver Collection: the monumental Milan Centrepiece, 30 metres long and made of heavy gold, is particularly lavish. The imperial collection is overflowing with crystal, precious porcelain and silver cutlery. Something about the monarch's taste is revealed by her private objects.

Baking with the grandparents
The city-famous Café Vollpension is a social business with a lot of taste: senior citizens bake cakes and tarts according to old recipes and thus improve their pension. To get the business through Corona, the grandmas and grandpas are now sent out into the world wide web. At the BackAdemie, they teach the art of Viennese pastry making in “OMAsterclasses” and live courses just like the YouTube pros. Like today, they make Austrian sweet bread pudding with grandma Lucia. The courses are fee-based, a baking 1.0 plan and the delicious recipes are free, many are vegan.

Women and Space
They discovered comets, drawn up star charts and carried out tireless research: pioneers such as Caroline Herschel, who was the first to practise the profession of astronomer and received recognition for it. Or Sally Ride, the first American woman to fly into space with the male-dominated NASA. In today's premiere of “Sternenfrauen”, the Theater Drachengasse shows who these brave women were. Embodied by actress Anita Zieher, the play tells the stories of important female researchers from different eras, about the fight against clichés and successes in the profession.

Night Tour at the Zoo
Alas, it’s getting dark sooner and sooner now. Which is a bit depressing, but there are some advantages to that as well: like the night tour at the zoo starting earlier now than in summer, for instance. Once all visitors have left the site, you stalk through the dark realm of sleeping and nocturnal zoo animals in a small group – equipped with Swarovski night-vision devices and under qualified supervision. Among other things, you will make the acquaintance of Egyptian fruit bats that sail through the air like ghosts while passing through the dark hippo house.

Silent Mind
Can you do just a little bit more, yeah? Just this one more thing to get done quickly, right? Wrong! Because if you try to keep on functioning, you are missing out on what your body needs. Tiredness, insomnia, migraines and pain are just some of the signs that the body is crying out for attention. Juliane Scherf shows in a weekly physical training session what it is like to have a silent mind again. Today there will be a free trial session – with breathing and silence exercises and strengthening of the muscles. Feeling yourself is not difficult, our body knows how to do it anyway.

Secret Garden
Walks through a forest of tree-high pink mushrooms, fish swimming around in space and giant babies climbing over the Alps: the nostalgic collages by Petra Schöller are real eye-catchers. Next to them, you have delicate flowers and bowls by Beate Anna Hoy – delicately modelled in porcelain – that are just as beautiful. Also inspired by nature was the artist Marianne Reich, whose delicate leaf patterns entwine over hand-coloured textiles. From today, in the exhibition “Secret Garden”, the ladies present a fine selection of their creations. Definitely worth seeing!

Getting Justice
Once the decision to separate has been made, a legal wrangle begins: about the maintenance and child support, property allocation and shared custody. An organisational challenge, which legal expert Barbara Stekl aims to facilitate a little bit with their lecture this evening. She will discuss and clarify some important basic questions: what rights does a woman have in case of a divorce and what does the situation look like with partnerships? How does the contact law work? Plus: what helps against the enormous emotional drain? You do have to sign up!

Futuristic Vienna
So, what does Vienna look like in the future? The collective theaternyx has come up with a city play: During the audio walk “Über. Morgen Wien”, you explore the future in a group with a woman's voice speaking in your ear. She’s from the year 2050 and shows the way through the utopian city. What will it look like here in 30 years and how will we live? While walking you become a time traveller, listen to the sounds of the future city – and suddenly possibilities open up in urban space that you have never seen before. Put on sturdy shoes, the route from the Prater to the WUK is quite the tramp.

E-Waste Day
Old junk is being put back on track: The “trash_design” shop transforms old electrical appliances into upcycling design products. The porthole of a broken washing machine becomes a side table and old microchips are transformed into cool earrings. Today, everyone can contribute to the worldwide E-Waste Day by handing in outdated notebooks, tablets and smartphones at the dismantling and recycling centre (DRZ). While you are there, you might even discover a new piece of furniture or an unusual accessory that you would like to purchase. Shopping, that saves resources and is also decorative.

Hobby Mobila Vienna
Her sofa, which elicited a wow from all of the guests, gave Iulia Muntean the idea for her concept store. At Hobby Mobila Vienna she presents interior design from Romania by (still) unknown brands and artists: Mobiladalin's simple velvet sofas practically radiate in emerald green and the Bucovina line picks up on folklore flower embroidery. At Mindthegap, paintings and ornaments from Transylvania are being brought to life on wallpapers. The extremely minimalist tea porcelain by two artists is very much in vogue. Real design pieces!

Nope, CitySpotterGirl hasn’t forgotten any letters in “Little Paris”. This is the café’s real name. Apart from that, Anna Idzik's patisserie is still quite French. And quite temptingly sweet. Delicacies are produced here non-stop – even in front of the guests. Tartlets, croissants, macaron, pain au chocolat, squeaky-green pistachio tarts or exceptionally good chocolate eclairs. Those who need something hearty for lunch will be provided with quiches. You can take all this with you or enjoy it on the spot – the café is not exactly homely, but nice.
