"Heya Girls!"
What’s going on when five talking animals do group therapy and a woman transforms into a castle? Exactly! The Tricky Women are in town. The film festival dedicated entirely to the animated filmmaking of women sees itself as a barometer for trends and tendencies of the global independent animated filmmaking. It gathers the best works of women from the past two years: you will find films by renowned figures of the international animation film as well as works by newcomers – all in all, the Metro Kino shows more than 160 films this year and makes pixels, dolls, and plasticine characters dance across the screen. This time the focus is on films from the former GDR (photo) as well as historical and independent animated films from China, the animations “Ink-and-wash-painting” drawn with ink present themselves in a particularly pretty way. Ah yes, and the festival now has a longer name: Tricky Women/ Tricky Realities.
Wishing you an amusing week,
Your CitySpotterGirl

Zweitkleid7 Second Hand Sale
No old clothes junk, but really cool high-end second-hand apparel! A little trip to Martina Brückl’s shop always pays off – and even more so right now. From today until Saturday, they sell off pieces that were taken on commission but were not picked up again. Meaning you can stock up on chic used textiles for a small voluntary donation, the guidelines are 2 euros for a T-Shirt, 3 euros for a skirt, 4 euros for trousers, and 8 euros for jackets or coats. The money raised is then donated to the child protection association “Möwe”. Nice and sustainable!

Jedermann Reloaded
Yeah, the most handsome actor of the country is rocking the Burgtheater today! Theatre-berserker Philipp Hochmair became a talking point during the Salzburg Festival when he spontaneously filled in for fallen ill “Jedermann” Tobias Moretti and managed to shine despite zero preparation time. This was partly because of the intense work of preparation on this role for his own project “Jedermann Reloaded”. With his band “Die Elektrohand Gottes”, he makes Hofmannsthal’s character into a rock star and slips into all the roles himself with passionate effort. Simply brilliant! Foretaste here.

Mikhail Baryshnikov
Baryshnikov is in town!  The charismatic ballet-superstar, choreographer and actor dances, recites and performs in a compelling one-man show the poems by Nobel Prize winner Joseph Brodsky, who died in 1996, and is accompanied by video projections and a great stage setting. There is probably hardly anyone else who could bring these profound verses to the stage better than Mikhail Baryshnikov – a touching reunion of the two exceptional artists, who used to be friends, as well as a theatrical journey into the world of Russian literature. Better make sure to get tickets! You can check it out here.

Special Days at Peek & Cloppenburg
The spring-cleaning plus reconstruction work in the fashion temple on Kärntner Straße are completed successfully, now shopping fans may storm the store, whose interior has been newly dressed. And as incentive for them to do so, they are tempted by a big opening hurly-burly today and tomorrow: at her Brow+Lash-Bar make-up artist Alma Milcic perfects the very same, and at the Dyson Hairstyling Lounge they get your hair into magnificent curls. Levi’s and Majavia offer styling for jeans and leather accessories in the form of personal initials, plus donuts, drinks & DJ sound lift the shopping mood.

Lesson plan, diet plan, city plan, railway schedule, holiday plan, business plan, cleaning plan – there is often no way around it. But isn’t the chaos more thrilling because unexpected surprises keep happening? Isn’t it much more exciting to let go of the plan for your life and just watch in a carefree manner – but not without imagination and humour – what happens? In her fourth solo programme full of funny sketches, gags, infectious songs and improvisations, cabaret artist Guggi Hofbauer talks about why she prefers to be all over the place instead of having it together. St. Patrick’s Day in Vienna
When Burgtheater and Ferris wheel are lighted up in green, it can only mean one thing: the Irish celebrate their national holiday! In the Irish pubs, they have merrily been downing Guinness since Friday, yesterday the big St. Patrick’s parade moved across the city, and today it’s on to the jolly finale: at the Prater, many venues are bathed in a lush green light and sizzle specials like green burgers or Shamrock fries, at all the Irish pubs from Flanagan’s to Charlie P’s things are wild anyway, and the DDSG invite you to the St. Patrick’s cruise on the Danube, with Irish buffet and live music. Day of Vienna district museums
CitySpotterGirl for one has a soft spot for the somewhat dusty exhibition arrangements and respectable directors of the Viennese district museums ;-) At times, you can actually find real treasures and tropes of knowledge buried there! Today, all district museums have the same opening times from 10:00 to 16:00, and there are several events taking place at the museums, using the motto “Zu Gast in Wien”: you can partake in a “Pub-Quiz” in the 15th district, hear the Wienerlied duo “Die Inzersdorfer unkonserviert” in Liesing, and in the 4th, district leader Lea Halbwidl opens the exhibition “Zu Gast auf der Wieden”.

Restaurant Week
Low-cost gourmandising! Around 80 restaurants of the city offer a discounted menu from today until 24 March. Even though there aren’t as many award-winning restaurants joining in as in previous years, the offer does pay off for some: a two-course lunch menu at a two-toque-venue costs 19.50 euros, for dinner you feast on 3 double-toqued courses for 39.50 euros. Paying a visit to the charming “Clementine im Glashaus”, “the Room” in the restored Sofiensäle, or the sensational Amador’s Wirtshaus in Grinzing is recommended – the latter is decorated with 3 toques, after all!

The moment it’s a bit warmer outside, half of Vienna seems to unpack their running shoes, everywhere you turn, you see motivated joggers dashing around. If you don’t manage to wrestle down your inner couch potato on your own and finally get moving, you can surrender yourself to the care of running coach Barbara Hinterberger. Her beginner’s running class trains together in a small group every Tuesday for 10 weeks. Her promise: after 10 weeks, everybody can run 5 kilometres uninterruptedly. Wild Garlic Night at Wurzelwald
Bright green, garlic-y and not everybody’s cup of tea: Wienerwald’s herald of spring number 1 is everywhere again! The likable veggie venue “Hollerei” dedicates a culinary evening to the wild garlic, although the dinner does not take place at the restaurant but at the Hollerei Galerie vis à vis. Because artist Johanna Finckh is currently exhibiting her work there, part of the exhibition “Wurzelbehandlung” is very fittingly a forest of real roots. Today she gives a personal tour of her artwork, and you can munch yourself into a real spring & forest mood with the wild garlic treats being served there.

Cosmos Viennese Dance Modernism
Isadora Duncan, Grete Wiesenthal or Gertrud Bodenwieser – hardly anybody knows these ladies today. And this even though they, like many other female dancers, choreographers and teachers, had a pioneering role. Something else many don’t know: during the first third of the 20th century, Vienna ranked amongst the most important international centres of modern dance! A new exhibition illustrates fascinating dancers of that time and portrays a female-dominated dance scene destroyed by Nazi dictatorship. Apart from great, historical photos, they also show films and short live dance performances.

 Maite Kelly
Maite Kelly
God, how time flies! Maite Kelly, the second-youngest offspring of the legendary “Kelly Family” is almost 40 herself now. And she – like her brother Paddy – has behind her an exciting and not always easy journey with music always playing a big role. With her brand-new album, she is sending the message “Die Liebe siegt sowieso” (love wins anyway). That may sound pretty sappy, but Maite Kelly is a thoroughbred musician, who masters loud and quiet notes to perfection, pours out her soul singing, and dances for her live. NGO-Café Dirt Water
Well, the name is not very inviting, but this here is not your average café. The (pretty big!) Dirt Water donates all profits generated to their NGO and helps people in Cambodia who don’t have access to clean water. They also have a food bank and a “sharing refrigerator” for people in need in Vienna. And because the organic coffees and organic teas taste really great here, because there’s also some food (cakes, sandwiches) and because there is such a super-friendly mood, the café is booming. That’s how you do active sustainability and humanity!
