"Heya Girls!"
The Viennese coffee scene has been brewing quite a bit in the last few years. Instead of sitting in a coffee house for hours and sipping one cup of “melange”, drinking hip and fast espresso with thick crema or getting the daily caffeine dose through preferably fair coffee-to-go is the trend. The time when nobody cared at all where the coffee beans came from, or how they were roasted and ground are long gone. Of course, everyone knows what a barista is and an original Italian espresso machine in the kitchen has become the ultimate status symbol. So it’s obvious that the Vienna Coffee Festival with more than 80 exhibitors includes many trends. For four days during this week at the Ottakringer Brewery you can try everything that makes coffeistas’ and caffeine junkies’ hearts beat faster. World-class baristas will show what they can do, you can taste many special roasts and coffee-based cocktails and you can get information on the newest high-tech coffee machines or find the inspiration you need in order to master the “Latte Art”. Phew, high pulse guaranteed!

Wishing you a lively week

“Familie Lässig”
The annual New Year’s concert of the “Familie Lässig” (“Family Cool”) is considered cult by now. And since they are having so much fun, the six-person group around Manuel Rubey and Gunkl has decided to go on a long tour around Austria. And they even rehearsed for it this year ;-) Which is almost sad, because their spontaneity was particularly funny. Today in Vienna they are once again performing their uniquely interpreted and always hilariously presented cover versions ranging from folk songs to pop. Claria Luzia is now a permanent family member as well; on our portal you can find an interesting interview with the Indie icon.

Klar at Mühlbauer
Last Call! Today is the last day of designer Klara Neuber presenting the current collection of her label “Klar” at the Mühlbauer shop in the city center. Even though she usually creates wonderful pieces made from delicate silk organza, her winter collection is made of loden – Klara Neuber plays with the traditional material in all its facets like no other. Her cocoon capes, long gilets, dresses and skirts made from fine cloth and sturdy Styrian broadcloth don’t have anything to do with traditional “Tracht” clothes and are very chic with their understated cuts. The perfect addition to the nice pieces are, of course, the suitable Mühlbauer hats.

Don’t panic!
Fears are part of life and they are healthy warning signs. They are an expression of human development and they also come up when we try something new. But what happens when fears become to big and take over our life? How can someone stay mentally and physically healthy in a time where fear is omnipresent? What are the physical and mental consequences of states of panic? Tonight, a workshop at “Frauen beraten Frauen” (“women counsel women”) revolves around the phenomenon of fear from a medical and psycho-therapeutical perspective. Entry: free donations, but please sign up.

Beate Maxian: “Mord in Schönbrunn”
A dead body on a bed of roses is a perfect fit for Friday, the 13th ;-) The literary necropsy is happening today at Thalia, where the successful author Beate Maxian will be presenting her sixth crime novel set in Vienna called “Murder in Schönbrunn”. Of course, the CitySpotterGirl has read it already and even experienced hobby detectives won’t know who the murderer is right until the end! The plot is set around the murdered ex-fiancée of a hotelier who is about to marry his new love in a few days time. Journalist Sarah Pauli is suspicious of the case and starts to investigate.

Re:Treat
By now, there seem to be Yoga centers everywhere. But the new energy recharging station of Giulia Tamiazzo is very alluring, not only because of the particularly beautiful premises, but also because of the very fine relaxation program. She offers creative Yoga styles, meditation, freshly cooked meals (!) and the possibility to hang out and chill for a while. At today’s opening chef Luca will be serving a veggie lunch and then you can try out different Yoga classes for free until the evening. Not only traditional Yoga styles on the mat, but also with lots of shaking. Awesome!

Heroes – A Bowie*Prince Tribute Night
The deaths of so many stars during 2016 still hurt quite a bit. But: new year, new luck! Right now we are just glad about the incredibly good music, that gentlemen like Cohen, Bowie and Prince have given us. “Let’s dance” instead of grieving is also the motto at tonight’s Bowie & Prince Tribute Party organized by the indie label EMG at the Szene Wien. A whole string of Austrian bands and singers ranging from the Buben im Pelz to Sir Tralala will be covering super hits and less well-known songs from the two deceased exceptional musicians live on stage both. Put on your glitter outfit and go!

Laugh center
So, when was the last time you really laughed out loud? Pharmacist Nina Fuchs is convinced that laughing is the best health protection whatsoever. And that is why the trained laugh-coach opened her very own laugh center on the first floor of her cottage pharmacy. From now on there will be funny events happening there, the opening today includes an amusing and healthy program: laughing away unwanted weight with nutritionist Karin Walter, a short workshop with mental coach Silvia Breier around the topic “Mit Lachen zum Erfolg” (“Success through laughing”) and laugh-inducing Shiatsu. Time to get your laugh on ;-)

What will the new year bring? At today’s workshop with Aliana Schafferer and Ines Hofbaur participants can fully dedicate themselves to their visions for the new year 2017. During a brief meditation you go through a guided introspection, afterwards there will be an exchange of experiences in order to inspire one another. SkiSuitRental
This idea is just as simple as it is innovative: if there are ski-rentals, why shouldn’t there be ski-suit rentals as well? Thought Canadian Wendy Williams and opened her “SkiSuitRental” last year. On her website you can choose between a selection of various high-quality jackets, pants and gloves which are then delivered directly to the hotel of your ski vacation. So convenient! And it also means there is more space available in your bag ;-) Whoever prefers to try on their rental suits beforehand can find a selection at the pop up shop in Vienna until the end of March. Prices per ski jacket from 15 euros/day, sets starting at 22 euros.

Pop-up store „Kauf eine Ziege“
Shopping with social added value, the Caritas shows how it’s done! Only until the end of January a range of nice products that were made in social projects are for sale at a pop-up shop next to the former Generali Center. For example cool jewelry from the youths-creative workshop “ReStart”, fine chutneys from the garden center “Am Himmel” or unique “magdas Design” – handicrafts that were created in Caritas workshops by Austrian designers, including pieces like the “overzealous candle stand” and the “snooty” drinking glass. And whoever doesn’t want to buy anything can sponsor a goat for an Ethiopian woman. Makes sense!

Natural Wine ABC
Why do some winemakers bury cow horns and why are there all the sudden so many insects in the vineyard? The answer to all these questions lies within the new trend of “Natural Wines”, which are fermented using the natural yeast of the grapes and are often bottled unfiltered. But are they really the wines of the future? Tonight at the Wein&Co Mariahilf many secrets concerning the “new” winemaking and cellar procedures will be revealed. Experts will explain what the colorful and sometimes cloudy natural wines are all about and what is really meant by organic and biodynamic. Interesting!

“Stop being hysterical!“
To be honest, this lecture made it into the newsletter even just because of its title. Because which woman hasn’t heard this remark before – and of course always completely uncalled-for ;-) Be it as it may, today psychologist Alfried Längle will be holding a lecture on the reasons of a hysterical reaction in some situations and on how to handle it well. Because hysteria often seems ridiculous, but it is a serious problem that can end up effecting a whole society. Many times the deep sorrow behind it is undetected and that can lead to sickness. Very fascinating insights into the human soul!

Single Business – Apple Pie Baking
Winning someone over with a strudel: at today’s single event for 30- to 40-year-old entrepreneurs there will be collective strudel baking. The result is supposed to be a traditional Viennese apple strudel – and in the best case a follow-up date. After the collective baking at the bakery Hofbackstube Schönbrunn the program includes strudel eating and networking. Because among businesspeople there might not only be private but also professional synergies to be created ;-) By the way, wine lovers 40+ can use their chance to get to know each other at a nice “Wine Tasting” next Wednesday.

 Gerstner
Gerstner Café-Restaurant
The Gerstner at the Palais Tedesco is not really new – the K. u. K. Court Confectioner opened its gorgeously old-fashionably furnished café across from the opera already two years ago. What is new is the Café-Restaurant on the recently opened second floor. The ambience could not be any more magnificent: historic ceiling paintings, grand fireplaces, pilasters made of red marble and lots of gold. In short: you will be blown away. The menu is only an extended version of a coffeehouse menu (ranging from sausages to beef roulades), but that doesn’t matter. It’s not everyday you get to enjoy such a beautiful place in Vienna!
