"Heya Girls!"
Ladies, adjust your crowns for here come the Queens! They've tottered here straight from New York and have made it their business to shower us breakfasting Viennese with the greatest possible portion of glamour on Sunday. The dazzling drag queens around Naomi King will delight you in the cafe of the Rosa Lila Villa with dance interludes, lip-sync battles and stories from their glittering lives. Between the (many!) outfit changes, you can have breakfast in peace. The all you can eat brunch, which at first glance seems inconspicuous, tastes surprisingly good (hmmm, parsnip fries) – and the café's living room atmosphere is forgotten as soon as Queen Naomi starts to belt out Beyoncé. The royally good mood of the drag-tastic Brunch Experience will linger and tingle for days. Little warning: If you are sitting directly at the "catwalk", it might happen that you’re asked to dance along. So: pack good shoes, bitches!

Wishing you a week full of glitter,
Your CitySpotterGirl

Hundertwassser and Schiele
Those two didn't know each other, it didn’t work timeline-wise. But Egon Schiele was a central figure of reference for Friedensreich Hundertwasser all his life. "I often dream like Schiele, my father,... of birds and flying fish and gardens in velvet and emerald green", the eco-pioneer wrote about his deep sense of connection. 20 years after Hundertwasser's death on February 19, the two extraordinary Austrian artists enter into an unusual dialogue. With 170 exhibits, the exhibition in the Leopold Museum shows analogies beyond formal similarities. Must-see!

Looking 4 Ludwig
Beethoven's 250th birthday is celebrated all over Vienna this year, of course, but it is especially exciting at the Theater an der Wien. A theatre director "from times long past" opens his house and brings anecdote-filled light into the relationship between his theatre and the probably most prominent "composer in residence". The path leads not only to the auditorium, but also behind closed doors, into side rooms and deep into the bowels of the theatre. Naturally, Beethoven's music accompanies this station concert. And many a secret about the house and the jubilarian is revealed.

Beeswax Wraps instead of Plastic
Away with all the plastic cling film and the aluminium foil rolls – beeswax cloths are great for preserving food! They stay fresh for longer, have an antiseptic effect and – because they can be used again and again – are particularly sustainable. Susanne Kindler will explain how to make these cool things at an evening workshop in the middle of Essling. And while the cloths are baking in the oven, herbal salt and blossom sugar will be made in the meantime. All this for you to take home, obviously. And tomorrow the bread for your snack will already be wrapped up nicely in your bag.

 Musmig
Museum of Migration
Migration means far more than suitcases and rubber dinghies – and this “more” needs a museum, believes the Musmig collective. That’s why the Museum of Migration is born today: installations in pictures, text and video as well as performances are shown on the 300sqm experimental space of the gallery "Die Schöne". The resistance that has always been directed against the idea of such a museum is also addressed. The actionist pop-up exhibition is not yet a real museum, but art, campaign and celebration at the same time. And who knows, maybe it will become something permanent.

 Cabaret Fledermaus
Black Masks at Cabaret Fledermaus
Unfortunately, this location – whose bar replica is currently exhibited in the Lower Belvedere – has nothing to do with the legendary Kabarett Fledermaus of Wiener Werkstätte. But things will still get extravagant. At the "Ball der schwarzen Masken" (ball of the black masks) iconic songs of the 80s and 90s are played and – of course – the odd waltz or two. At midnight the German synth-pop band Boytronic will be playing and will provide a retro atmosphere with songs from their new album. The dress code: black, mystical and of course with masks. Misfortune cookies are available at the entrance :-)

 Anukoo
Sale at Weltladen
FAIRlassmich is the motto these days in the Vienna Weltläden and many pieces from the winter collection are allowed to leave cheaply. As long as the snowdrops are in bloom, there’s still a chance of it getting really cold again, after all. A cuddly pullover made of alpaca knitwear, made in Peru or Bolivia, would be just the right thing then. The cosy warm pieces from Anukoo (Hindi for "fitting") and a lot of cotton stuff from the eco-label are sold up to 40% cheaper in the inner-city branch. The sale only runs until 28 February, though. Have fun wearing fair ;-)

Haley Johnsen
Take a dash of vintage vibes, add some hefty pop, mix with rock, soul and blues and the result is: pure joy of life. Has anyone heard of singer-songwriter Haley Johnsen from Portland, Oregon? No? CitySpotterGirl didn’t have her on her radar yet either, but now it's about time. The newcomer is touring Europe right now and is making a stop at Schmid Hansl with her guitar. In the USA the woman with the gorgeously soulful voice became famous after her participation in the TV show American Idol. Best American Pop – and you can listen to it here.

Cheese Fondue Battle
Let's get to the forks! In the wonderful ViennaBallhaus the caquelons are set up in which seven fondue professionals will make the cheese melt. Hans Bodingbauer from the Rote Bären a few houses down the street comes over, of course, the cheese hut from the Naschmarkt is also represented. The guests, who come already equipped with a fork and bread bag at the entrance, feast for hours and finally choose the winner. In between, the taste buds are distracted at the cherry bar. Dear Herr Hermes leads through the evening and you probably won’t be able to eat anything ever again.

Richard Neutra
He designed a trend-setting house for the Werkbundsiedlung in the 13th district, but in 1923 the young Viennese architect Richard Neutra was actually drawn to California. Los Angeles became his second home and it was here that he laid the foundation for modern Californian architecture. His Mediterranean-looking, light-flooded houses blur the boundaries between inside and outside – and are now coveted luxury items. 50 years after his death, the Wien Museum MUSA is now dedicating itself to the work of one of the most famous architects of his time.

Wynton Marsalis
One of the hottest jazz ensembles in the world is in town: Wynton Marsalis with the 15 soloists of New York's Lincoln Center Orchestra, which he has led for decades. The opening programme of this year's season – "25 Years of Democracy in South Africa" – can be heard in the Konzerthaus on a European-exclusive basis. Special guests even include South African singers. Since the 80s, the gifted trumpeter Marsalis has developed into one of the most influential jazz figures. He plays everything from his New Orleans roots to bebop and modern jazz, but doesn't like free jazz.

World Cancer Day
In the past fifteen years, cancer has developed from a fatal to a chronic illness. On the one hand, new medication and new forms of therapy (for example for breast- and blood cancer) bring hope, but they also present doctors and patients with new challenges. Today on Vienna Cancer Day, you can get first-hand information from top medical professionals at the Main Ceremonial Hall of the University of Vienna. There are special talks on skin cancer, lung cancer, and leukaemia, for example. In addition to that, there are members of self-help groups available for conversations. Free entry!

When Yury Revich calls, they all come: the Hörbiger sisters, Sunnyi Melles, James Cottrial, Andrea Jonasson, Doretta Carter – on Shrove Tuesday even in disguise. The Dreamland Gala for the children's relief organisation UNICEF is an entertaining mix of top-class classical music, pop, dance, theatre, art and inspiring readings. Nadja Maleh – this time not cabaret
A participatory book for adults from the pen of cabaret artist Nadja Maleh – well, that should be fun. It deals with a serious topic, though: self-love or lack thereof. Nagging at yourself, talking yourself down – seem familiar to anyone else here? With a lot of humour, the Syrian-Tyrolean Viennese shows in "Ich lieb mich, ich lieb mich nicht..." how it can be done differently. She doesn't just present her book as a reading, but invites you to join in. Visitors can ride up and down the emotional palette or put on rose-coloured glasses. Fun, gin and tonic are guaranteed.

 Alec Soth / Magnum Photos
Alec Soth Personale
Alec Soth, chronicler of the American society, is the poet among photographers, his pictures always have something melancholic and enraptured about them. The fact that song lyrics often accompany the works in his photo books fits in with this. The title of his latest series, "I know how furiously your heart is beating," is from a poem by Wallace Stevens – the photos show people alone in their four walls. The Kunsthaus presents a comprehensive show of the American, who is one of the most important photographers worldwide. He can be personally experienced at a lecture!

Paykuna / SEPP
Normally you associate world music with musicians from faraway countries. But this time the players come from Austria and Switzerland. Both the Austrian "Sepp"tett and the young Swiss band "Paykuna" put elements of folklore into a contemporary jazz context. Paykuna does this with traditional Bolivian music, whereas Sepp's music is rooted in Austria, the Czech Republic, Turkey and Brazil. This often sounds nostalgic, but at the same time cosmopolitan and progressive. With the code word "Septett" you get one free ticket with every paid ticket! Listen in here.

Handdruck
Whoa, first thing when entering are the Monophonics blasting their psychedelic soul opera. Meanwhile, master of the shop Martin Novak is in the back silkscreen-printing. His prints, which are based on wood engravings from old encyclopaedias, hang up to the ceiling. Lots of animal life in all colours: among others a series of endangered species from koalas to baboons, the proceeds being donated to climate protection. The nostalgic (and currently very trendy) motifs can also be found on shirts and notebooks. Right now, the Styrian is working on unusual flower pots. And next to his prints his ex-girlfriend sells handmade bags: really pretty!

Salon-Café Adlerhof
I’m in love. Firstly, because an old inn has been rebuilt in a magnificent way – with a nostalgic salon, a spiral staircase leading nowhere and the gorgeous Bergl frescoes from 1770 from Laudon Castle, which were transferred here by wallpaper. And secondly, because they really value food and ingredients here. So when you've finished looking around, we recommend a fancy breakfast with pastries from the Wachau region or the dumpling trilogy for dinner. By the way, the whole thing is called Salon-Café and Brot-Beisl because the Adlerhof in the entrance area is also a local supplier of baked goods, eggs and specialities. Wow!
