"Heya Girls!"
Tourists would say that Klimt and Schönbrunn are Vienna's greatest treasures. That may be true from a financial point of view. But I say: one of Vienna's greatest treasures is Richard Teschner's puppet theatre. The Art Nouveau artist created puppets of incredible beauty and poetry, inspired by Javanese stick figures, dressed in fabrics from the Vienna Workshop. He wrote the plays for the puppets himself, as well as the music. Both puppets and stage are kept in the Theatre Museum – an absolute insider tip! And this week, from Thursday, the Puppet Theatre Days will take featuring this treasure. Fidlfadn will present a round dance of two witches inspired by Francisco de Goya's work, and Slovenian puppeteers will bring a puppet opera influenced by Bram Stoker's novel Dracula to the Theatermuseum. Die Strottern and Christoph Bochdansky sing scenes and songs about the mystery of the black air in “Nachtgesänge”. And of course there are guided tours and lectures on Teschner. A feast for connoisseurs!

Wishing you a poetic week,
Your CitySpotterGirl

Flying high & Diving deep
Stephanie Krawinkler used to be a business consultant, now she makes bubbles. What an inspiring life journey! As Miss Bubblebliss she creates artistic bubble sculptures or makes people disappear in huge bubbles. And creates one thing above all: amazement and an almost childlike feeling of happiness. Today is the vernissage of Krawinkler's latest project: soap bubble-macro-photography. Unfortunately, the fascinating bubbles are often gone so quickly that you can't really look at them up close – Krawinkler's photos make it possible. Today includes a live performance by the soap bubble artist!

Winter Garden at MQ
November has barely begun and winter has already set in! At least in the MuseumsQuartier, which is already going all out for Advent. The main courtyard is covered with a “winter sky” that not only protects against wind and weather, but also features fantastical wintery projections. From today until St. Nicholas, they also got the art project “Self-Portrait with ANTopolis” going, in which the portraits of passers-by will become large-format images made of millions of digital ants – which will be projected onto the façade of the Leopold Museum. Plus: food, Winter Race and curling rink.

Designqvist Sale
Designqvist turns 10! Sandra Nalepka is half Swedish, a cutlery enthusiast and for years the place to go for aficionados of Scandinavian design from the 50s and 60s. Her small shop on Westbahnstraße stocks lovingly selected tableware made of beautiful materials such as mouth-blown glass or porcelain, with a special focus on vintage cutlery sets in all variations and designs. And usually, there are no sales here. But since a milestone birthday is worth celebrating, she will be making an exception: there’s a discount of 10% on cutlery throughout November. Happy Birthday!

Balcanto
There will be humming, hissing, humming and banging again! Nuschin Vossoughi, director of the Theater am Spittelberg, invites you to the a capella festival Voicemania. The first event will be Balcanto in the City: for one afternoon, artists will warble from balconies and church pores in the city centre: from the Hermann vocal band to Sofia Taliani with her Italian songs to Albin Paulus with his experimental yodelling. All unamplified and without instruments.  In the evening, the Dutch Kings of Pop iNtrmzzo conquer the Theater am Spittelberg!

Hazel Brugger: Do you know this woman?
The title says it all! Hazel Brugger comes from Switzerland and originally became known with poetry slams, but soon switched genres to stand-up comedy. In the meantime, she is not only the winner of the German Comedy Award 2020, a celebrated presenter and YouTube star, but also a homeowner, wife and mother. With a lot of charm, sensitivity and irony, Brugger tells of life between social media shitstorms and baby screams in her new programme. You don't know this woman yet? Then here's your chance today! „Auf Wiedersehen, Kinder!”
It was an adventurous life: it's very impressive how Ernst Papanek gave hundreds of Jewish refugee children a home in shelters near Paris more than 80 years ago and saved not only their lives but also their souls with his revolutionary reform pedagogy. CitySpotterGirl's daughter Lilly Maier, by now an author and historian, has created an impressive memorial to the forgotten Viennese and will be reading from her work online today. An immensely optimistic book that shows that with courage, dignity and love you can totally “just go save the world” after all!

7* Flea market by RahatLook
When it's as unpleasantly autumnal as it is right now, flea markets are only bearable indoors. Good thing the 7* flea market is one of those! Cafe Siebenstern has a small event space where many a hipster dream will come true this weekend. More than 400 vintage pieces, from glittering bell-bottoms to colourful 90s windbreakers, have been lovingly gathered from flea markets all over Europe and brought to Vienna. For that's the concept of RahatLook, which hand-picks second-hand fashion from the 70s to the 2000s and sells it regularly at pop-ups. Cool!

KlezMORE Festival: Ethel Merhaut
The Vienna Festival of Yiddish Music is getting underway! Numerous concerts by local klezmer virtuosos will take place until 21 November, opening today with the wonderful Ethel Merhaut. The location is also special: the concert will take place in the Lorely Hall in the 14th district, which has been preserved from the Gründerzeit. Merhaut sings “Tif Vi Di Nakht - A Journey from Europe to America”: songs from the golden 1920s and the 1930s, when Germany and the USA still shared an entertainment industry. Keyword: silent film.

Pippa at Dogenhof
Last summer we were obsessed with Pippa’s song “Egal” – this year the Viennese artist has released 5 new songs under the title Livestream. Now she finally wants to play them live! Pippa makes pop music somewhere between chanson and Neue Deutsche Welle. After her second album, she had to stay at home due to Corona instead of going on tour. So in the meantime, the singer-songwriter wrote new songs. They are called Jeanne Dark or Die schönen Tage, for example, and are cheery in a melancholic way. Analogue at Supersense today!

Schuh Liesl warehouse sale
Schuh Liesl reminds you of shoe shopping when you were a child: you went with your mum to the unadorned shop, and the shelves were filled with very different pairs of shoes, not sorted by brand, of course, but by size. This is also the case at Schuh Liesl – but fortunately you can choose for yourself what you want today! And even if this is not a hip shop: Schuh Liesl has all the usual brands, from Birkenstock to Clarks to Timberland. And when there's a warehouse sale, like right now, everything is up to 70% cheaper! Neunerhaus Art Auctio
Art for life – this has a double meaning at today's Neunerhaus art auction. On the one hand, you can buy a work of art by renowned artists for your own four walls. On the other hand, with your purchase you support the Neunerhaus, which helps homeless people and people at risk of poverty in Vienna to lead a self-determined life. Among the works to be auctioned are big names such as Martha Jungwirth, Irene Andessner and Gottfried Helnwein. Conveniently, you can also bid via livestream. So don't forget to bring your wallet and pounce!

Blade.Unwichtig
Wild stuff: a mash-up of science fiction and absurdity! The new play combines Ridley Scott's dystopian feature film classic “Blade Runner” with the play “ÜBERGEWICHT, unwichtig: UNFORM” by the Graz-based brutal playwright Werner Schwab. The plot: All beautiful, clever people already live on Mars. The only ones who have stayed behind are difficult special cases who insult each other night after night at the pub table before it becomes known that human machines devoid of empathy have returned to Earth... Will certainly be very, very weird ;-)

Investing money in a time without interest
Let's talk about money. On average, women still earn significantly less than men. And: As a rule, women also invest less money than men – whether in real estate, cryptocurrencies or their own business! A lack of financial knowledge is one reason for this. That's why “Frau im Fokus” invites you to a Q&A session with a financial expert today: What do I have to pay attention to when investing money? This and many other questions will be answered today.

The Sufi Princess
Noor Inayat Khan was a writer, musician and also the first female radio operator of the Resistance in occupied France during World War II. In 1944, the eldest daughter of the Indian Sufi order founder Hazrat Inayat Khan was murdered in the Dachau concentration camp as a secret agent. Today, Khan is revered as a heroine in France and as a saint in Sufi circles. Here in these parts, though, the Sufi-Muslim woman, who died fighting the Nazi regime, is still unknown. Birgit Lehner tells the story of the notorious resistance fighter today, accompanied by harp and Indian bansuri flute.

 Kurt Hofstetter
Hofstetter at the Planetarium
Wien modern is once again bringing highly unusual music to the city this year. Like the Suite Irrational by Kurt Hofstetter. The media artist sets notes as points of light that stand like shining stars in the black cosmos. These star scores can be transferred precisely into the conventional score notation and can thus be played with tonal precision. Hofstetter's musical writing is therefore both visible and audible – which is why it is being performed today at the Planetarium: to be heard as a suite for two pianos and seen in the starry sky. Could be mystical.

Groundies
We've long known that barefoot shoes don't always have to be ugly! But the eco-shoes of the German brand Groundies take it one step further: their sneakers, boots and ballerinas are not only pretty, they are also climate-neutral and produced under fair conditions. Our “normal” heeled footwear is known to get in the way of our natural, healthy posture – Groundies are therefore completely flat, their sole protects against external injuries and otherwise lets our feet do their thing.

The pasteis de nata taste almost like they do in Portugal, the pain au chocolat is delicious and the hand-picked Brazilian coffee that fizzes from the iconic Marzocco couldn't be better.
