"Heya Girls!"
In love, engaged, married, divorced – women might go through many a phase in the course of their (love) lives ;-) For all those who are currently on a cuddly course instead of cheerily hopping through life single, there is a famously important day in the calendar this week: Valentine's Day is on Wednesday. And Vienna is going to great lengths to make it extra nice for couples this week. The Upper Belvedere invites you to a kiss before The Kiss. In the evening, when the museum is closed, couples are photographed professionally and free of charge in front of Gustav Klimt's famous painting “The Kiss”. At the Leopold Museum, couples only pay half price on Valentine's Day, and at 16:00 there is also a free guided tour on the subject of “Lovers in Art”. And if you prefer something more unusual, board the magnificently decorated ship “MS Admiral Tegetthoff” for an idyllic evening cruise and enjoy a romantic candlelit dinner along Vienna's city skyline. Love is in the air!

 Badeschiff
Ice swimming at Badeschiff
Well, how about jumping in at the deep end? That's to be taken literally here! Because the mermaid season never stops on the Badeschiff, meaning the brave among us can throw themselves into the waves even in winter temperatures. That’s not only fun, but also has a positive effect on the cardiovascular system, boosts the immune system, can reduce joint pain and has a positive influence on depression. Well, if that's not a lot of reasons to pack your swimming trunks! There are changing rooms on site and hot showers as a reward ;-)

 Che Sudaka
Che Sudaka
From illegal immigrants to celebrated international stars? The three brothers Leo, Kacha and Cheko know how it's done! In 2002, the immigrants founded their now globally acclaimed band Che Sudaka in Barcelona and have since made hips and hearts celebrate sweaty fiestas at two thousand concerts (!) with their fiery Latin vibes and socially critical, optimistically rebellious lyrics. Today they will bring their unmistakable sound-mix of Latin American folklore, ska, reggae, punk and electronic elements to Vienna (to the stage of the WUK) – fogoso!

 Bettina Flitner
Maria Lassnig Foundation
She was born on 8 September 1919 as an illegitimate child on a farm in Carinthia and died in 2014 as one of the most important artists of the 20th century. It was not what Maria Lassnig saw, but how she felt herself that was painted – she called it “body-awareness painting”. Now there is a place in Vienna that should make Lassnig lovers very happy: The artist's former studio is home to the Maria Lassnig Foundation, whose exhibition depot can be visited every Friday. A selection of works from all creative phases is on display and the guided tours are free!

 Pregenzer
Pregenzer Fashion Store: Winter Sale
Ugh, what a pity! Jutta Pregenzer's stylish shop in Schleifmühlgasse has always been a safe bet when it comes to avant-garde with a high coolness factor. However, the fashion temple now closes its doors with the next summer collection, which means that the last winter collection needs to be taken out in style one last time! That's why the purist Pregenzer Collection and hip brands such as Samsö&Samsö and Moma, including accessories, are selling at -30%. Pieces of the second season are even going bye-bye with minus 50-70%! It pays off to be quick!

 Ecstatic Carneval
Ecstatic Carnival
“Helau” and “Alaaf”! The carnival season is in full swing. While for many it's an annual chance to get wasted without a bad conscience, the dressing-up ritual can also be more profound. The Ecstatic Carnival, for example, is a day of getting to know your own facets and being allowed to be someone else for once. Who or what? There is full jester's licence! You just have to think carefully about why you want to be that other being, because that's what the evening is all about. On top of that, there will be concerts, dances and delicacies – well, simply ecstatic!

Torch tour of the Sisi Museum
Today, things will be getting mysterious and imperial at the same time! What is usually reserved for the little ones is now also exciting for adults: when the day visitors have left the Sisi Museum, curious explorers equipped with a torch can wander through the living chambers and official rooms of the imperial couple Franz Joseph and Elisabeth. Accompanied by a lady-in-waiting or a valet de chambre, nocturnal secrets from the history of the house will be revealed and everyday life at the imperial court is literally illuminated. Please bring a torch!

Yoga, Cafe & Cake
The saying “with a carrot and a stick” has rarely been so appropriate! Because yes, it's still too cold to like having to swap the sofa for fresh air on Sundays. But today you can get some exercise in the cosy warmth of Café frei. One of the popular yoga sessions is taking place there again. On the programme: fiery vinyasa asanas and challenging yin yoga exercises. Once the muscles are relaxed and the connective tissue tightened, it's time for the really great part – the reward, which is called caaake! And as the whole thing takes place in a café, it can only taste delicious ;-)

Tet: Vietnamese New Year
According to an old legend, all animals were invited to a race across a river to determine the order of the zodiac. The place of the year 2024 was taken by the wooden dragon, which is now duly incensed and sung about during the Vietnamese New Year celebrations – even here in Vienna! In the columned hall of the Weltmuseum, they boast everything that is part of a successful festival in Vietnam: the programme ranges from a breathtaking lion dance and the story of the 12 signs of the zodiac to a demonstration of traditional Vietnamese martial arts.

Jadi Carboni
Men rule the world. Sounds super out of date, nevertheless our lives are still based on a patriarchal perspective. Women usually adapt to this unconsciously and often lose their voices in the process. Performance artist Jadi Carboni wants to set an example against this oppression and shows strong images of women in her performance today – and she gives ladies a space for reflection and empathy. The performance can be left and revisited at any time, and those who are carried away by the eclectic moves may also join in!

Chinese New Year at Shambhala
The new sign of the zodiac has ruled China since Saturday! The rabbit from 2023 has shook paws with the dragon, which is now expected to bring good luck and prosperity to all this year – including the women's shelters. This is why the Academy for Hara Shiatsu and Shambhala organise a day dedicated to the Asian arts: from shiatsu trial treatments to TCM nutritional guidance and Qi Gong, you can attend courses on Chinese soulfulness. All free, but there are donation boxes in the course rooms, 100% of the contents go to the women's shelters in Vienna!

Maria de Buenos Aires
This is the chance for all those who would like to go to the opera but are afraid of the hour-long performance and the sometimes yawn-worthy content! Tango legend Astor Piazzolla's “Operita” only lasts a snappy one and a half hours, uses a fiery mixture of tango, folk and jazz and brings a real Buenos Aires feeling. That’s also where Maria’s story is set. She is trapped in a world full of crime and machismo and is reborn like a phoenix after her death. A thoughtful declaration of love and an intoxicating indictment of the Argentine tango!

Protest/Architecture
When protest actions are in full swing, they often go unnoticed; only when they are over do the surprisingly engineering-like protest buildings remain. The new exhibition at the MAK is all about them. Models, photos and a film installation trace worldwide protesting events. Highlights include the “Occupy Wall Street” tent cities in New York and the 16-month motorway blockade in Delhi, during which vehicles were converted into houses. It's fascinating to see what can be created from limited resources with shared energy, passion and a willingness to take risks. Today is the vernissage!

Schlinger Heroes 2024
Local history made fascinating – in Floridsdorf: to mark the 90th anniversary of the February battles, a station drama is being staged in and around the Schlingerhof as a tribute to firefighter Georg Weissel. In 1934, he led the firefighters of Floridsdorf to offer armed resistance against the regime of Engelbert Dollfuß. However, he failed and was executed. Schlinger Heroes is intended to keep the memory of that time alive and also emphasise the important role of women in the fighting. The play can be attended twice a day by a maximum of 30 people – so sign up quickly!

Start: Brünner Straße 34-38, 1210 Vienna. 12 + 13 February 14:30 & 18:30. Admission: free donation. Web

One Billion Rising
One in three women worldwide will be beaten or raped in their lifetime. To send a visible signal against abuse, the American feminist Eve Ensler declared Valentine's Day V-Day in 2012. And launched the “One Billion Rising” campaign! Since then, millions of women from 200 countries have taken to the streets every year on 14 February to dance together for a life free of violence. Vienna is also taking part in it – from 15:30 there will be dancing in front of the parliament. And art installations such as the “Red Shoes” will be presented as a symbol against femicide.

Today, the world once again dons pink colours and spreads romantic spring vibes already in winter! At the LEO theatre, too, all signs point to love, which is why the Harmony Sisters sing about the day of love with the most soulful close harmony singing with “Bei mir bist du sheen”, musical songs and modern pop. The show features Kerstin Grotrian – the feisty one, Maria Lukasovsky – the love-struck one, Elena Schreiber – the diva and Frizz Fischer – the irresistible keyboard wizard, who seduce with musical and theatrical performances. Whew, that looks uptight, I'm not going in there. You think to yourself quite often when you peep into fancy art galleries, don't you? This is exactly where Stefanie Haller's idea for her new Kiosk Otto comes in: affordable works of art, framed and ready to take away! The vintage art with unique pieces and originals from the 20th century can be found in the back room of Stefanie's first “baby”, the backpack mecca Packpony. From woodcuts and watercolours to ink drawings that Stefanie scouts out from private collections, flea markets or online, everyone will find something nice for bare walls here!

The Hummus Workshop
Please don't be fooled by the furnishings! They simply kept the ones from the previous owner, which probably date back to the 90s. But you'll forget all about it as soon as the first plate of hummus arrives at your table. Yuval Zederman, who started Miznon in Vienna and Paris for Israeli celebrity chef Eyal Shani, has opened his own restaurant at the entrance to the Servitenviertel. The lively-friendly venue serves wonderful salads and a few main courses. But the chickpea puree clearly takes centre stage – and it tastes sensational! Served with pita bread, tahini and mushrooms or ratatouille. Pure soul food!
