"Heya Girls!"
The next weekend could serve as a good opportunity to snatch some original stuff and fill up your (tableware) stock! For various flea markets tempt you with unusual offers. Like for the Vienna Coffeehouse flea market on Saturday, for instance, the big cafes of the city have cleared out their cupboards, storages, and cellars and carried it all over to the coffee roastery Julius Meinl. There you can hunt for some nice bargains until 16:00 since the offered goods –tableware, discarded chairs, old coffee machines– are sold at pleasantly low prices. Joining in are, among others, Café Mozart, the Residenz, Hofburg Café, and Café Museum. On Saturday as well is when the Young Caritas sells cool fashion pieces at favourable prices, by which they support the emergency night shelter for youths a_way. And on Sunday, Strandbar Herrmann ends the season. For this, as always, the popular Strandbar flea market takes place – and, most importantly: all deck chairs are being sold there!
Wishing you a colourful week,
Your CitySpotterGirl

Chanson d’Amour
Ah well, doesn’t everyone remember their first love, the butterfly armada in your stomach, and the feeling of elation never experienced before. The memories of the first broken heart are less pleasant, but unforgettable too. Anita Eberwein sings today about the emotional world of love, lust, and passion at the fittingly pompous Eden Bar – from the top of the world to the depths of despair. Including classics like “Bel ami”, “Sous le ciel de Paris”, “Besame mucho” or “Caruso”, interwoven with texts from Rilke to Kästner. Listen, dream, drink – sounds like a good plan ;-)

Claude Monet
For this exhibition, the Albertina has even extended its opening hours – the museum now already opens at 9:00. After all, it’s the first time in more than 20 years that the gorgeous works of the French “Master of Light” can be admired here on this scale again. They show 100 paintings from the first pre-impressionist pictures to his last works, created in his garden in Giverny. Be it on the banks of the Seine, on the Atlantic Ocean, or by the water with the famous water lilies – Monet illuminates nature’s constant transformation like no other. The opening is today!

The native of South-Tyrol studied in Vienna at the University of Applied Arts, but his atelier is actually in Tuscany. That’s where he produces his stylish creations by hand, all are unique pieces, very wearable, and made from classic materials like textile or felt. The pretty autumn/winter collection can now be shopped at the “ Vintage Fabrik”-market, aside from hat master Plank, 30 others are selling their treats there from furniture to fashion.

Cloister Concert
A concert that can be called unusual not only for its music but also for its location. In summer, the Viennese Dominicans sometimes open their gates – and with that, a surprising space of tranquillity in the city centre: a concert series where you get to hear Gregorian chants today is taking place in the beautiful cloister, which has survived throughout the history of the city with its unique atmosphere since 1235. The Wiener Choralschola makes the historical cloister ring with their voices. The admission to the concert is free, the convent welcomes donations.

Seva India Festival
Never been there before and the location isn’t known to everyone, either: this weekend, the Markhof in the 3rd district turns into India. More specifically, to an India Festival away from kitsch and commerce but still colourful and surprising. For this, they offer around 100 inspiring lectures and workshops in the trendy rooms of the school & co-working thing. You’ll learn interesting stuff about the culture of the Bengalis, Jainism, or Indian languages, you can wrap a sari, sing mantras, and dance barefoot. And the authentic Indian food comes from the Vienna Dabbawalas. Super!

We are still rejoicing over the fact that City Farm has found a new space. Today offers an opportunity to get to know the location in Augarten. For there is a winter young plant market taking place there! You read that right, the gardening season is not over yet, after all, autumn is winter’s spring ;-) So it’s the best time to stock up on seedlings for balcony or garden that you can acquire here for a free donation. Because even during the cold season, delicacies like pink borecole, green pak choi, or striped mustard green are still thriving quite wonderfully!

Franziskus Kirtag
This tip is included solely because I, as a country kid, am really into fairs! And this Sunday, there is one taking place at the inner courtyard of the Franciscans in the 1st district: the Franziskus Kirtag. Since it’s organised by Viennese bakers, confectioners and butchers, numerous culinary delicacies await all visitors. From spicy sausages to baked goods and the chocolaty Franziskus-Spitz. The entire proceeds of these culinary delights are used to support people in need at Franziskanerkloster. And in case of rain, the fair will take place in the brothers’ refectory.

Kunsthalle Wien flea market
Sounds like a big cleaning before the takeover because director Nicolaus Schafhausen is giving up the management of the house (prematurely) at the end of March 2019. In any case, the Kunsthalle’s storage is being cleared and all findings will be sold off at a three-day flea market at MuseumsQuartier. Among them are not only art catalogues, books and exhibition posters for art lovers but also shop leftovers like bags, T-shirts and postcards as well as furniture and cool decoration items that were used for various exhibitions – from picture frames to chairs.

Anne Eck
Really beautiful songs! Viennese resident-by-choice and Nurnberg native Anne Eck presents her debut album at WUK today. Her songs, self-written and in English, belong to the pop/alternative genre, they’re all biographical and represent fragments of emotions in melody form. Without kitsch, pure, authentic, reduced but powerful. Like the title song “Rise” which is about her own change process that is both painful and relieving. About the courage to commit yourself to the process and flourish. Here you can listen to a sample, exclusively in CitySpotterGirl!

Nicole Six / Paul Petritsch |

„lost/and/found/“
Creative: a vernissage on platform 1 of Westbahnhof. There is, of course, a reason for it because with their exhibition, Nicole Six and Paul Petritsch highlight objects that have been lost and found in trains and at train stations – in unobtrusive confrontation with museum pieces, from stuffed animals to an old, red football or a sports bag. The outside of the mobile museum (the train goes back and forth between Vienna and Bratislava!) has been designed by Polish artist Marta Kopyt, on the inside, there are also performances by artist groups taking place until the end of November. Original!

Day of Women in Economics
Let’s talk straight. Us women are strong, super competent socially as well as emotionally, and we are born leaders! Unfortunately, in practice, we forget it much too often. Today, on Women in Economics Day, you’ll get a full load of female empowerment in the job. “Don’t please, but move” is the guiding theme, the keynote is given by profiler and criminologist Patricia Staniek. Afterwards, there are sessions on topics like “Negotiation Strategies for Women” or “(R)evolutionary (e)motions.” So, dear ladies: off to talking shop, networking and women powering! Please sign up.

Wally:Emilie
Now what would Wally Neuzil and Emilie Flöge talk about if they ever were to meet? For the 100th anniversary of Gustav Klimt’s and Egon Schiele’s death, both women come together for the first time – in a young play with music. The text comes from Julia Marie Wagner, the songs are from the pen of songwriter Babsea. Having been reduced to their existence as muses by history, both women reflect on their lives at the side of the artists Schiele and Klimt – on the drawbacks and happy moments, egoism and spiritual kinship. Today is the first performance!

Shokudo Kuishimbo
That’s of course a lucky break for all kuishimbos (in English: gluttons and gourmands) when the tiniest and at the same time best Japanese restaurant of the city finally opens a bigger venue! Instead of uncomfortable hustle at the minipub on Linke Wienzeile, now we have air, light and puristic furnishing in Esterhazygasse. And – could we be happier – the same great cuisine inspired by Kyoto, home of the young chef. Perfect Agedashidofu, the comfort-soup Nabeyaki Udon, seaweed salad with ginger, spinach with sesame, cold (!) buckwheat noodle soup, Takoyaki – never-ending delicacies. And some extra-nice service!
