"Heya Girls!"
For someone who was born by a lake, like me, Vienna is something of a dry dock. Not enough water, Danube or no Danube. In Salzkammergut, they worship the water in summer, a part of life takes place not just at the lake, but also on the lake. And look at that, they suddenly have that in Vienna, too! For three days, MS Wien turns into a scene-hotspot when the KLEINOD-crew moves onto the ship. On Thursday, there will be partying during the cruise, the passengers may look forward to summery house-tunes while the crew serves delicious cocktails and sundowners. On Friday, what is quite possibly the wildest boat trip Vienna has ever seen, will set sails. The MS Wien serves as Loveboat for the official Life Ball warm-up – with crazy drag queens, ripped sailors, rum, ship’s music and board excesses. And on Saturday, it’s “Cast off!” at noon already when they are brunching and dancing on the ship. It always starts on Schwedenplatz, during the cruise (4.5 hours for the brunch) you cannot exit the ship!

Wishing you a cool week,
Your CitySpotterGirl

Kiki Smith. Procession
Body, nature, death and femininity: with these motifs, Kiki Smith – one of the leading contemporary US-American artists – interprets current debates. The Lower Belvedere will show works from all phases of her artistic life for the first time during a retrospective. While the pictures show romantic and dreamy motifs – a naked woman floating between birds, a wolf under a starry sky – the sculptures are way more provocative. Kiki Smith will be present today during the vernissage, the entry to the opening is free, but signing up via email is requested.

Show Angewandte
Attenzione fashionistas, the most important fashion event of the week is upon us! The young designer-elite of our country once again presents their fancy final creations. And they are quite numerous this time: 240 outfits by 34 graduates of the fashion class at the “Angewandte” will be presented during 2 shows, the stage for the catwalk was designed by students of the studio Hani Rashid. After 5 years, designer Hussein Chalayan says goodbye to “Angewandte”, his predecessor for the professorship of fashion design has not yet been decided on.

Kulturen bitten zu Tisch
Food brings people together and the way to peace leads through the stomach – we say, since it fits so well here right now. Because today, on occasion of the UNESCO International Day of Intercultural Dialogue, there is a communal feast at the Fest der Kulturen: 22 nations, including diplomats and political VIPs, beckon you to a Round Table at Sigmund Freud Park. Spicy tacos from Guatemala and cool hibiscus juice from Senegal are just two of the ethno-treats they serve there. The multiculti event is being accompanied by some vocal and colourful music and folklore. Peace!

Katie Kern and Katrin Navessi
Double concert today means: double musical women’s power. Which is coming from singers/songwriters Katie Kern and Katrin Navessi. Kern is one of the best domestic guitarists, her melodies are undeniably influenced by her time in Nashville.  You seldomly find such authentic country-blues outside of the States. Katrin Navessi is taking things a bit more easily, her touching voice isn’t compared to Suzanne Vega’s for nothing. She makes profound and atmospheric music, on her own in English, then with the band in German. Both very different – and so beautiful! Listen in here.

Private Secret Sale
Moschino and Karl Lagerfeld are just two reasons out of many why you should pilgrimage to Poltrona Frau today. For a Private Secret Sale is taking place in the shop of the Italian furniture manufactory – with super cool designer clothes, shoes and accessories at mad prices. Some pieces are up to 70 percent reduced! And as if that wasn’t enough, a Renovation Stock Sale by Poltrona Frau is taking place in the store at the same time. And since designer-furniture-and-fashion-shopping famously makes thirsty, wine store Traisental offers fancy drops for a tasting.

B.O.U.M Wine Fair
Bubbles only, women mostly ;-) The first B O.U.M.-edition last year attracted quite a lot of women; now there’s a remake of the fizz fair in the cosy garden of Glacis pub. Although, fizz is slightly disrespectful to use in this context because they only present spontaneously fermented wines. Which basically means: they are all produced completely naturally. About 40 wineries from all over Europe bring their fancy drops, among them many small wineries like Costadila from Italy, Meinklang from Burgenland, or Vina Cotar from Slovenia.

Modami Pop-Up
It all started with a flea market, by now, it has turned into a pop-up store. And just around the corner of the Mon Ami, behind the façade of a former lab equipment shop, Shejla Baltic sells cool fashion by young labels, mainly from Vienna. Her concept? Offering a platform to new creative heads who dare to venture onto the free market for the first time. Among them are Meijerhof with chic wrap dresses and Soap with cool T-Shirts and trendy acetate ear jewellery. The walls are decorated with works by domestic artists and can be bought as well. Only until the end of June!

Life Ball
For days, they have been pottering around at Rathausplatz to finish the complex stage for THE event of the year in time: the Life Ball takes place today – for the very last time! Even if we don’t actually want to believe it, sniff! The farewell attracts numerous odd birds, superstars like Katie Holmes or Dita Von Teese, models, and fashion gurus. At today’s mega-opening on Rathausplatz, Conchita will lead through the finale and Missoni will organise the fashion show on Rathausplatz again after almost 20 years. No doubt, this is going to be very, very emotional today.

 Zero Waste Austria
Zero Waste Family Day
Apart from climate change, the huge mountains of waste that we humans produce are probably the most urgent problem of our time. That’s why Zero Waste Austria offers tips and tricks on how to reduce waste as an average Jane in an easy, playful and effective way on a day of action. A tour through the neighbourhood leads to the Unverpackt-shops in the third district, later they demonstrate during workshops how to make beeswax wraps for foodstuffs, produce bath salts with herbs and how to single-handedly upcycle Tetra Pak cartons to wallets. It’s high time for waste-free alternatives!

Urban Safari
No, you don’t have to travel to Africa for a safari, it’s possible in Vienna, too! More precisely at the Vienna Central Cemetery. Armed with camera and binoculars, you explore the busy life of animals between the graves at this joint Safari tour in the early morning. Because Europe’s second biggest cemetery is home to a myriad of wild animals. The tour guides of Wiener Wildnis Projekt lead you to secluded corners where fox puppies play hide and seek, where deer snack on the plants covering age-old tombstones and where kestrels hunt for food.

Festival of Nations
The more diversity, the better: Blumengärten Hirschstetten are transformed into a wildly mixed universe today, when cultural societies, musicians, and folklore groups from different nations from Armenia to Paraguay perform, dance, sing, do theatre, and play music. And they all live in Vienna! Plus, you can buy artisan craftworks and – obviously! – culinary specialties from all over the world. The activities which you can watch or join in to are multiculturally mixed as well: Kung-Fu, an Eritrean coffee ceremony, calligraphy, or folding lotus flowers.

 Dommusik Wien
OrgelNachtKonzert
Quite the mystical experience when the halls of Stephansdom vibrate with the sound of the organ late at night. Like today when the organist of the cathedral gives a concert playing Wagner and Bach – and that free of charge! He will play on the choir organ, which is still the main organ at the cathedral. The big organ that had to be renewed after the fire in 1945 and has not been in use since 1991, is currently undergoing a large-scale renovation. By the way: you can buy discarded organ pipes of the old big organ at the Steffl fair, which still has its stalls up around the cathedral until 10 June!

There’s hardly anything more relaxing (and entertaining) than going on a hike with alpacas. Which is why CitySpotterGirl goes to the countryside regularly to stroll through the forest with these super-fluffy smiling animals. But on this holiday, you don’t have to leave the city: XundZeit organises a relaxing walk with lama & alpaca in the windbreak belts of Seestadt. Airship.01
The minute the summer has (finally!) arrived, the complaining about the heat in the city has started. A very space-y installation is here to help, though: the „Waldwunderkammer” opens today at MuseumsQuartier. The mobile, walk-in unit harbours a cool, foggy forest inside. In a natural way, this climate installation reduces the temperature by about 6 degrees, filters fine particles from the air and even produces oxygen. Since its development for the Expo at Milan, the Airship has been touring Europe since 2016 and will finally land in Vienna this summer.

Glückskompetenz-Workshop
Being happy is more than turned up corners of the mouth and a sunny disposition. It also involves health, creativity, openness and optimism – which in turn leads to success and self-confidence. Unfortunately, many people are moving more and more away from the inherent state of happiness in the course of their lives. The good news: being happy can be practised. The workshop of happiness trainer Mühl shows how to do it step by step. Effective exercises strengthen the happiness centre in the brain. If you are happy, you get more out of life, after all.

Fado-Festival
She was born for Fado, for him, Fado changed his whole life: Sara Correia is considered a rising star of the Fado music scene, Marco Rodrigues one of the most important Fado singers of the New Generation. Both have led Portugal’s traditional music about love and mourning into the present day with crackling intensity. Tonight at Sommerbühne at Spittelberg, a special Fado series is kicked off with them giving a double concert together – which means Weltschmerz and a velvet timbre causing goose bumps and moments of longing. Seven North
You know someone’s really got it when they serve vegetables in such a tasty and creative way! Last week, the famed Israeli chef Eyal Shani opened his second venue in Vienna after the Miznon. The really big Seven North, with velvet chairs and a lot of stylish vintage, is located in the Hotel Max Brown and reminds you of the Food Halls in New York: a lot going on, exciting, Mediterranean menu, disarmingly friendly service. Of course they have the famous roasted cauliflower, but also super-soft lamb filet on tahini. Many dishes are intended for sharing or are snacks for tasting – so best bring several people along!
