"Heya Girls!"
Do you fancy getting a little square-eyed this week? There's a great opportunity for that: the Tricky Women Festival is sweeping through town again. This film festival is the only one in Europe dedicated exclusively to animated films by women, with pixels, puppets and clay figures dancing across the cinema screens of our favourite city. The festival programme includes 160 cinematic works such as “Fairplay and “Feminist Perspectives”, which tackle issues such as everyday sexism and hierarchical inequalities. “Sultana's Dream” and “Johnny & Me – A Journey Through Time with John Heartfield” will also celebrate their Austrian premieres. For the first time, a competition category will focus on the exciting topic of augmented reality, in which the real world and computer-generated content offer an interactive experience. And virtual reality films, which transport viewers into digital worlds, offer completely new possibilities for animation. So if you're in an imaginative mood, you should definitely plan a short holiday at the cinema!

Wishing you a gaudy week,
Your CitySpotterGirl

 Roy Lichtenstein
Roy Lichtenstein
Stereotypical blondes, war heroes and the famous Look Mickey, always in bright colours and with the characteristic Ben-Day dots – Pop Art king Roy Lichtenstein shaped the US art scene in the 1960s with his cartoon aesthetic. This year, the comic book enthusiast would have turned 100, and to celebrate the occasion, over 90 of his paintings, sculptures and prints have travelled from 30 international museums to the Albertina in Vienna. The retrospective also includes black and white product advertisements and paintings paraphrasing works by artists such as Picasso and Dali!

Venus im Pelz
In 1870, Leopold Sacher-Masoch (yes, the namesake of masochism) explored the dark depths of the human psyche in “Venus in Fur”. Director Azelia Opak found the novella lacking in drama and turned it into a two-person play. In it, Lucy McEvil and Jonas Kling attempt to radically transform fantasies into reality, allowing themselves to be deceived by their own dreams until they are executed. An exploration of the utopian emancipation of gender roles and power relations between unequal people. Because: Who actually has how much power over the other?

VinziRast Easter Market
If you are looking for Easter gifts, you can make it easy on yourself by stopping by the VinziRast. For three days, the “mittendrin” restaurant will host a market where all the products – especially cool, unique upcycled items – have been made by refugees: bags, wooden trays, colourful aprons, jewellery and wooden toys. And it wouldn't be an Easter market if there weren't decorated eggs, cute bunny-shaped egg hats and lots of other spring decorations. If you're feeling adventurous, you can also try your hand at Easter crafts yourself, by the way!

On the shoulders of giantesses
Over the past few centuries, the who's who of the art scene has been limited to men – female painters, writers, musicians, directors (creative women in general) have simply been ignored, even banned from history! The Künstlerhaus is currently focusing on the position of women artists today and how they relate to their predecessors. Carola Dertnig, for example, takes visitors into the apartment of the late architect Anna Lülja Praun and explores her legacy, while Anna Reisenbichler traces the steps of the botanist Anna Atkins with images of nature.

What makes my mobile phone safer
Your mobile phone is listening in! Who hasn’t had this impression? Women in technology or science? Unfortunately, this is still not the norm. The cult play Curie_Meitner_Lamarr_Unteilbar focuses on three great female pioneers: Marie Curie, the Nobel Prize winner who discovered radioactivity; Lise Meitner, the Austrian nuclear physicist; and Hedy Lamarr, the Hollywood actress who developed the frequency-hopping method. Annette Fischer
Oldie but goldie! From cabaret and jazz to opera and songs, Kurt Weill spent his life searching for contemporary forms of musical theatre. After fleeing the Nazi regime, he seemingly effortlessly blended the avant-garde with the present – first in Paris, then in New York. His song “And the green moon shone through the roof” was an absolute hit! Today, L.E.O. diva Annette Fischer, exceptional pianist Stanislav Rosenberg and saxophonist Tobias Rüger invite the audience to immerse themselves in the inexhaustible diversity of his oeuvre.

Sustainable architecture for the future
Ever higher, denser, more impersonal: the building industry is a major contributor to climate change and negative resource consumption – but not always! Curious visitors can spy two prime examples of sustainable architecture on today's guided tour. In the Sonnwendviertel, the “Bikes and Rails” presents itself as a timber hybrid building and passive house with a top CO2 balance. And the cool Magdas Hotel was created in a renovated building from the 1960s. New features include geothermal heating and cooling and photovoltaics. This is responsible architecture!

As at the old address, beauty treatments and now laser treatments are offered on 150 square metres. There's also an in-house shop with all sorts of fun stuff for the home and yourself, such as compostable jewellery by Birdy & Bee, nail polish by manucurist and vegan scented candles by Lys & Hedde. You can get a good view of the range from the cosy coffee area by the way ;-)

TanTan
Cafe Standard (which had long since passed its zenith anyway) has moved out and a new Chinese restaurant has moved in. Visually, this is good news, as the room on the right, with its colourful paper umbrellas on the ceiling and a beautiful mural painted on site, really looks the part. In addition to Sichuan cuisine, the young owners specialise in homemade noodles. There are many dishes with mian (Chinese for noodles), steamed and fried dimsum dumplings and jiaozi. Baos, steamed yeast dumplings, are also on the menu. Another plus point: the really nice service!
